Story Contest [Round 2 *Officially* begins! Post those cards!]

OMGAKITTY

Recommended Posts

EDIT: Seems like I wasn't clear on what this contest is about XD

Pretty much, I'll give you a theme, and you make a card. I judge the card, losers are out.

BUT WAIT!

This will all be done in 'story format', to make it seem much more exciting :P

[spoiler=Still Confused?]

Here's an example:

OMGAKITTY: ...and you were sucked into an alternate dimension, where a giant dragon attacks you! Make a monster to kill the dragon.

You: -post card-

Judging...

Let's say that Person 1 had the best card, and Person 2 had the worst.

The dragon came soaring down through the sky, and shot a blazing fireball at [person 1's card]. [person 1's card] quickly deflected it with [something], and the deflected fireball flew straight into [person 2's card], setting it on fire, and utterly destroying it.

So person 1 advances, and person 2 loses.

It'll look something like that, only a lot better. XD

Rules

1.Standard nonflame/spam rule

2.You have to be a 2 star member to join. I don't think that's unreasonable. 2 stars is real easy to get.

2a.There can be exceptions to the 2 star rule, if you are a 1 star interested in entering, please submit a sample card.

3.Art Credit is required. That means links, not disclaimers. Not 'I got it off of google'

4.Please place effects outside of card. Just makes my job a whole lot easier. Thanks.

5. If there is any additional information you want to add about your card (such as how you want it to be used in the story...i.e. "my card attacks by manipulating plants", feel free to add that. I'll try to incorporate it into the story. Also, if you want to be called anything besides your screenname in the story, feel free to mention, I'll call you by that then.

End Date

For the entire contest, I'm not sure...it shouldn't take too long, I work pretty fast, lol :P

As for the..."start" date, I need 16 contestants. 8 spots have been reserved for the 8 members who were still currently involved in my previous contest. They will have 3 days (until the 28th) to tell me they are entering. After that, it's first come first serve for any other entries.

[spoiler=Intro]Congratulations! You have been selected to test Kaiba Corp's new VR System! You stare at the letter. You can't believe it. You actually won. Those countless nights filling out postcards and mailing them in have finally paid off! The letter goes on to explain details...you're going to Japan! And...they're even sending a helicopter to pick you up! The trip is all inclusive, first class! You're so excited you can barely sleep. This is going to be the greatest adventure ever! Little did you know what horrors laid in wait for you...

[spoiler=Part 1]"Attention Duelists! My name is Mr. Hayre, and I will be your chaperon for your tour of the Kabia Corporation, Japan branch, headquarters.", announced a tall man in a suit to you, and the 15 other testers who got off the private jet. Standing next to him was a man with glasses and a lab coat. He cleared his throat, "Yes, hello, and I am Dr. Manik, the head scientist on this project."

With the introductions out of the way, Hayre and Manik lead you into the building. You tour the impressive building, as Dr. Manik explains the history of the new VR system.

"This is virtual reality is not the first time we have attempted it. However, our initial attempts ended poorly, with many glitches...our testers almost died! Not that you're in any danger!" he quickly reassures, "We have made vast improvements, and fixed all the glitches. Everything should be perfectly safe." You approach a large stainless steel door. Hayre pushes it open, to reveal a brightly lit room, with 16 large futuristic looking pods arranged in a circle.

"Ahem, yes, we are still working on making the machines smaller." Dr. Manik says nervously.

You and the other duelists quickly climb into the pods, and place the helmets over your heads. You wait in the darkness. Suddenly, there is a bright flash, and you are standing on the edge of a forest. The others are nowhere in sight. It's amazing! Everything looks so...real! You can feel the breeze on your face. You can hear birds chirping. You bend down and touch the dirt. It feels like dirt!

"GREETINGS AND WELCOME, DUELIST, TO DUELWORLD, THE LAND OF DUEL MONSTERS!" booms a voice behind you. You whirl around. Standing in front of you is a green genie.

"I AM LA JINN, MYSTICAL GENIE OF THE LAMP, AND I WILL BE YOUR GUIDE IN THIS STRANGE NEW WORLD!"

You can hardly believe what you are seeing. It actually looks like an 8 foot tall man made out of smoke! You are tempted to reach out and touch it.

"Your purpose here is to explore, and defeat all your enemies!" continues La Jinn, in a more conversational voice, "The other duelists are also spread throughout this forest. Use your deck to facilitate in finding, and eliminating them."

"Wait, what?" you reply, startled, "You mean...killing them?"

"Do not fear, when a player is eliminated, they will be ejected from the game, safe from any harm." replied the genie.

"That's not all." Suddenly, Hayre is standing next to La Jinn. You jump, startled.

"We want you guys to test this systems battle simulation abilities to the limits. We want you guys to have the will to fight with everything you got." he continues, "So to make sure you have the determination to win, we have added an addition: the last duelist standing will get," he glances at La Jinn, smirking at the irony of what he is about to say, "one wish granted to them by Kaiba Corp. Anything within our power, of course."

You are stunned. This is beyond anything you've ever dreamed of.

"In order to continue to the next stage, you will have to eliminate one other duelist. When you do, you will be transferred to the next location and given further instructions. Good luck."

Hayre and La Jinn fade out.

Hayre's voice booms across the sky, "ATTENTION DUELISTS! THE GAME BEGINS...NOW!"

TL;DR: Make a card that will help you in a forest setting. A full half of you will be eliminated.

[spoiler=Round 1]

Whew. That was rough. A lot of good cards, some not so good cards...

As you know (or should know >.> ), a full half of you will be eliminated this round. I'd like to say congratulations to jevans4ever, crimsonwolf, and lightdiversion, for having the top 3 scores ( 9.6/10 ). On with the story then, eh?

J0v1 took his time, searching through his deck. "Ah, here we go!" he exclaimed, choosing a monster card, with what appeared to be a dragon made of stone or earth on it. The title read Mori the Jungle Dragon. J0v1 stared at the card. Nothing happened.

"Uh...activate? Go? I choose you?", he spoke to the card, feeling like an idiot. Suddenly, there was a flash of light, and J0v1 was nearly crushed as the dragon popped out of it's card.

"Whoa! Cool!", exclaimed J0v1, reaching out to touch the dragon. It felt coarse and warm, like a boulder left out in the sun all day. Mori licked J0v1's hand. It's tongue was like sandpaper. After a couple minutes of petting and playing around with the dragon, J0v1 stood up and took a deep breath.

"Well, I guess we should get going...", he said, looking at the forest. It was not a welcoming sight. The dense vegetation made it hard to move through, and many of the plants had sharp thorns on them.

Mori gave a bark, which sounded like two rocks rubbing together, and charged the dense foliage. He bowled through it, his thick skin protecting him from the thorns, leaving a clear path for J0v1 to follow.

...

Symptoms of Death was a huge pervert, so he picked the cutest female card he could find. Symptoms of Death knew just the right card to deal with the monstrous forest that towered before him. It was a new card, he had just gotten it before he came here, and now was the time to test it out. He pulled the card out of his pocket and placed it on the ground. A flash of light, and there before him stood Dryad of the Stump. Satisfied with his choice, he turned and started walking toward the forest.

"Hey! Wait just one minute! What about me!" called a voice behind him.

Symptoms turned around, it was Dryad, sitting on her stump, pouting.

"Uh...what do you mean, what about you? You're coming with me." replied Symptoms, slightly confused.

"You don't know much about dryads, do you?" she asked him, "I'm the Dryad of the stump. To be specific, this stump." she patted the stump she was sitting on. "Dryads are bound to their trees. As in, I can't move more than two, maybe three feet, at most, from my stump."

"You're...kidding me, right?" Symptoms asked, in disbelief.

"Nope!" she exclaimed brightly.

"Great. That's just great!" he screamed. "A chance at a wish - anything in the world! - and I blew it because I chose a stupid DRYAD!", he shouted the last word as he kicked a rock into the forest. There was a roar, and a Battle Steer came charging out of the forest, a bruise on his forehead where Symptoms' ill-aimed rock had hit.

"Aah!" screamed Symptoms, falling backwards. He closed his eyes cringing, waiting for the blow. After a few seconds, he cracked his eyes open. "Huh...?"

The monster was dead, strangled by a mass of vines.

"Well just because I can't move from my stump doesn't mean I'm powerless." said Dryad.

"Thank you", replied Symptoms, smiling a little. Suddenly, there was an even greater roar, and stomping through the undergrowth came three, no four, no seven Battle Steer, all eager for vengeance for their fallen brethren.

"By Ra!" Dryad gasped, "Maybe one or two...but seven...I can't handle seven..." a grim look came across her face, "Run for it. I can slow them down."

"No way!" exclaimed Symptoms, "You're coming with me!"

Dryad looked at him sadly, "Have you forgotten already? Once bound, a dryad can never leave her tree."

The Battle Steer were advancing now, still roaring their anger. Symptoms bent down and picked up a thick stick, about the length of his arm. He smiled grimly at Dryad. "I'm not leaving without you, and since you can't leave, I guess I'm not going anywhere."

The two turned to face the advancing monsters.

...

Outside, in the "real world", Manik and his team of scientist were monitoring the players from the control counsel. Suddenly, one of the buttons started flashing, and an alarm went off.

"Sir!" exclaimed one of the scientist, "Subject in Pod 3 is going into convulsions! We need to eject him now!"

"No!" cried Manik, "This is valuable data! Record it all!" He had removed his glasses, and now stood with his feet splayed apart, looking more like a commanding general than a meek scientist.

The scientist was unsettled, "But sir, if this continues, he could...."

"Irrelevant!", snapped Manik, "We need the data. That's all there is to it. If we cannot complete this machine, Kaiba Corp is as good as dead."

"Yes...sir..." the scientist replied, sinking back into his seat.

To be continued...

Yeah, sorry, but I'm getting tired of typing XD

This could take a few days (although I already have all the scores, and know who is in the next round...)

As you can see, I try to provide a high quality (and hopefully entertaining) story. This takes time.

A couple of notes: While grading I thought of a couple of things I wanted to add:

1. Please place effects outside of card. Just makes my job a whole lot easier. Thanks.

In case this wasn't completely clear, sorry Symptoms, but you are eliminated. Usually I'll post something at the end saying who passes and who doesn't...but then usually I try to write about 4 contestants at a time >.>

Symptoms' story dragged on a bit, although I really enjoyed writing it. XD

I hope you enjoyed it too.

[spoiler=Round 1 (Part II)]

Voting time....

Do you guys want to just know who passes/didn't pass now, and get started on next round cards, while I slowly finish up the story, or would you rather wait and see? Sorry if I didn't make it clear, but Jovi made it through...although he might pop back into the story to fight.

Oh, and like, 4 people didn't post, so I think I'm going to kill eliminate them right now.

...

Mikooo shouted, "All right!" in excitement to get started, and ran toward the forest. He tripped on a rock and broke his neck.

...

Konnie looked confused. "Yugioh? What? I thought this was a Pokemon competition!"

He looked down at his deck. It was filled with Pokemon cards. He tried to activate one, and suddenly, there was, in big red letters across the sky, "ERROR", flashing continuously. "...Oops?" said Konnie, right before he spontaneously combusted.

...

Last Wish was looking around the forest, and saw a pretty flower. "Aww! That flower is so pretty!" she exclaimed. She bent down to get a closer look, and a dragon swooped out of the sky and ate her.

...

X-L was making slow progress. Very slow progress. He had chosen Lotus of the Forest for it's strong combat capabilities, but had completely forgotten about the need to find his opponents. As was, he was forced to carefully pick his way through the dense foliage and watch out for sharp thorns. He had already been scratched twice. He stopped in a clearing to catch his breath. As he sat there, he felt the earth shake. Thump. He looked around. Everything was silent. Thump. The sound seemed to be coming from his left. Thump. Thump. He stood up. Thump. Thump. Thump. Whatever it was, it was large and getting closer. X-L prepared himself to fight. Thump. Thump. Thumpthumpthump The tree in front of X-L crashed down, and stomping forward came Marlength and his Colossus of the Forest. X-L carefully placed his Lotus on the forest floor and waited for it to begin it's deadly work. The flower shivered slightly, and opened, releasing thousands of tiny spores into the air. The giant stone Colossus let out a tremendous roar, and flattened the flower. The spores were blown away. The Colossus's next step ended in a squish.

...

Yoshigohan and his Mage of the Forest were making good time through the forest. Any plant that got in their way, the mage could simply command to move. As they were sitting on a log resting, the mage let out a sneeze. She stood up in alarm. "What's the matter?", asked Yoshigohan in concern.

The mage tried to answer, but another sneeze interrupted her. She sneezed again, violently, and fell to her knees. That's when Yoshigohan noticed it. Tiny flowers were...sprouting on her body. Even as he saw them, he let out a sneeze. "Oh no..." he gasped, looking down at his hand. Three tiny purple flowers were growing out of his skin. He panicked, and ran. Behind him, the Mage of the Forest let out one last piercing scream. Yoshigohan ran as hard as he could. He couldn't breath. He could feel the flowers sapping his strength. He stumbled. He got back up and started running again, and stumbled on a root. He couldn't get up. His vision was blurry. All he could see was that purple flower...

...

(Back in reality...)

"Pods 1, 2, 4, 5, and 8 just failed sir!" cried the scientist in alarm, "Sir! We have to stop the machine!"

"NO!" cried Manik, "We are so close! We must find the flaw! We must!"

"Sir, their lives are at risk! I can't sit here knowing that I might be sentencing these children to death!"

"No greatness was ever achieved without sacrifice, and I will have my greatness!" raged Manik.

"I will not be a part of this madness anymore!" cried the scientist, standing up, "I'm calling the police." He started for the door.

"Sit down, Faelin."

"I'm sorry sir."

"Not as sorry as I am." replied Manik, pointing a finger at the scientist's back. Allun, Allean, Garrrvk'heas!

The scientist took another step, faltered, and fell to his knees. His eyes stared blankly ahead.

"Back to work! All of you!" snapped Manik to the other scientists.

To be continued...

Still moving a little slower than I originally planned. I don't know if I'll have time tomorrow either. We'll see. Hope you enjoyed the story.

Passed: Marlegth

Eliminated: X-L, Yoshigohan, Last Wish, Konnie, Mikooo

[spoiler=Round 1 (Part III)]

Zenqued made his way carefully through the forest, card in hand. While other contestants undoubtedly searched their decks for monsters, Zen knew that the real power lay in Spells and Traps. He heard a stream gurgling nearby, and decided to head toward it. He soon came upon it, in a clearing. Zen studied the soft grass, the cool stream, the shade from the trees, and decided that this area would make an ideal ambush. So he settled down in some brush and waited. Before long, a rustling came from Zen's left, and J123 entered the clearing, riding on Azambwe, Tree Lurker of the Jungle's back.

"Oh a stream! Good, I'm parched." J123 commented to Azambwe. He got off the lanky creature's back and headed for the stream. Azambwe lifted it's nose to the air and took a deep sniff. He turned and looked directly at where Zen was hiding and let out a growl.

Uh oh was all Zen had time to think before the deadly tree lurker pounced on him, squeezing his throat with it's powerful claws. Gasping for breath, Zen held out his card, and barely managed to say it's name: "Mystical Power of the Forest!"

Zen felt the immense pressure on his throat lift as Azambwe was lifted into the air by vines that seem to have sprouted out of the ground itself. The vines quickly wrapped the lurker into a tight cocoon. It was over in a matter of seconds.

"Aaah!", screamed J123 as he plunged the jagged rock he had found by the stream towards Zen's head. Zen jumped out of the way, just in time to avoid the fatal blow, although he suffered a long gash along his right arm.

"Arg!" he cried out. It hurt.

Wounded, Zen backed up carefully from the rock wielding J123. He didn't need to beat him, just buy enough time for his spell to finish. J123 charged him again, but this time, Zen was prepared. He jumped to the side, and stuck out his leg, sprawling J123 to the ground. Out of the corner of his eye, Zen saw some movement. At last! His spell was nearly ready. The previously still bundle that had been Azambwe was starting to twitch, then shake, until limbs burst from the tight cocoon. Slowly, the a new creature emerged. Vines sticking out of it's body, it looked like a green mummy. It was Azambwe - The Forest Zombie now, and it's master was Zen. J123 recoiled in horror as the dead eyes of his once-companion focused on him. The creature slowly advanced. J123 started backing up, tried to get up and run, but it was too late. Azambwe grabbed J123 by the ankle and pulled him back toward the tangled mass that had once been it's body.

To be continued...

Short update...Sorry J123, you lost. I think you had the highest score out of all the people who were eliminated though. :P

Congratulations to Zenqued for advancing. Uhg...I messed up. You remember the 4 or so contestants that didn't post cards, and were eliminated back in part 2? Well now it turns out that I have too many people who passed, and not enough who failed...which...makes it difficult to write a story. :/

I'll try, but I don't know how well it will turn out, so sorry in advanced. I promise that next round I'll be more vigillent of things like this. >_>

[spoiler=Round 1 (Conclusion)]

"Hehehe. What do we have here?" gloated Omega, looking at the upside down Lightdiversion. Omega was very pleased with himself. He had chosen his monstrous Dragonfly Venus Flytrap, and it had caught Lightdiversion by the leg. Lightdiversion however, did not seem overly bothered by the position he was in.

"Just who has who, hmmm?" he asked, as a slow drone filled the air.

"Huh? What's that sound?" asked Omega, looking around.

"Let's go, Rose Petal Wolf!" cried a voice from the trees.

Suddenly, a large gray wolf bounded into the clearing, and pounced on the oversized flytrap.

"Oof!" cried Lightdiversion as the plant dropped him to defend itself. "What are you doing? I had him!" he cried at Crimmsonwolf, who was emerging from the trees.

The wolf and the plant were fighting fiercely, but it looked like the flytrap was gaining the upper hand. It's thick vines were not bothered when the wolf bit into them, and the many tentacles had wrapped themselves around it's torso. The Dragonfly Venus Flytrap had lifted the struggling Rose Petal Wolf into the air, and was about to drop him into it's gaping mouth, when it froze.

"It's about time the venom started working." muttered Lightdiversion.

"Wha-? What's going on? Finish it, Flytrap!" shouted Omega.

But even as he said that, the plant began to shrivel up on itself, withering to a dead husk in a matter of seconds. From the plant emerged dozens of bugs, as large as a small dog.

"I don't believe you've met my monster yet," commented Lightdiversion, "Meet Beelzebub."

The swarm took to the air and started hovering.

"A-aah!" cried Omega, fleeing.

Crimmsonwolf and his companion prepared for battle. Rose Petal Wolf was in bad shape- the vice-like grip of the flytrap had snapped several of it's ribs. Lightdiversion turned toward them.

"I really shouldn't do this, especially after you messed up my beautiful trap..." he began. Crimmsonwolf tensed.

"...but you were trying to help. I guess it's the thought that counts." finished Lightdiversion.

"Huh?"

"I'm saying, get out of here. I won't fight you. This time." replied Lightdiversion, turning his back to them.

Crimmson and his wolf limped out of the clearing.

...

Omega stopped by a pile of rocks to catch his breath. He listened, there wasn't any sound of pursuit. His Dragonfly Flytrap! Muttering angrily, he kicked the pile of rocks. And eye shot open. The pile of rocks wasn't a pile of rocks at all, but instead, a slumbering Red Eyes Black Dragon!

...

Darklotus stood perfectly still, watching the Thousand Dragon approach him. A small bead of sweat trickled down the back of his neck, but he did not look afraid. The great dragon stumped closer. Closer. When the dragon was only a couple feet away, it happened. Great spikes of wood fell from the trees impaling the Thousand Dragon straight through. As the dragon writhed on the ground, Tiki - the Forgotten Soumoku dropped from the trees. "Sorry it took so long to prepare, master." he murmured to Darklotus.

"Not at all." replied Darklotus. They continued through the forest.

...

The Flame Swordsman roared in anger as another branch whipped out and slashed him. Whirling, he tried to strike, but there was nothing there.

"Heehee." giggled a voice.

The Swordsman lunged at the spot, but all his flaming sword met was air.

The Sprite of the Forest stepped into view.

"Fire." she wrinkled her nose, "I hate fire. Such an ugly thing."

The Flame Swordsman slashed at her, but she was gone again. A large branch swung down and knocked his sword away.

The Sprite appeared again, behind him. "Your kind doesn't belong here." She smiled sweetly, "And I'll make sure you don't bother this place again."

Two dozen sharp branches pierced the Flame Swordsman's armor, killing him instantly.

...

SasukeChidori watched as the dozens of Harpy Ladies tried to grab him in their poisonous claws. The trees around him had formed a protective shield around him though, bending to the will of his spell card, Peace of Nature. Sasuke watched confidently as the Harpy brood smashed itself against the trees. Within a few minutes, it became apparent that some of the Harpies were tiring out. And as the fell to the ground, small creatures that seemed to be made up of vines and sticks burst from the ground and killed them. The Plant Tokens swiftly scaled the trees and overwhelmed the remaining Harpies.

Round 1....End

I don't really feel like writing up Round 2 yet, so I'll just tell you what it's about, and write it later.

[spoiler=Round 2 is....]

Going to take place inside of a volcano. AKA, it'll be hot, smelly, and full of lava. Find something to deal with that, along with facing your opponents.

[spoiler= Part 2]

You are still wandering the forest, when, between steps, suddenly the entire scenery changes. You are standing in front of a volcano. A very very big volcano. Seven other duelists are standing next to you. They all look scratched up and bruised, but then, so do you. Hayre appears before you...but his image is shakey, flickering.

"Con-con-congratulations winners...winners...f-for advancing to th-the next r-r-r-r-round!"

His voice sounds scratched up, and he is talking in a monotone, staring straight ahead. You wonder what's wrong.

Real World...

All the scientists, and Hayre, are slumped in various places, eyes glazed over, staring into nothing. Manik stands alone, panting, drenched in sweat. His hands shake as he types out a message on the console.

"This....round...will take....place...in....Mt. Hoenn."

He cursed Hayre for turning on him! The bullet he had fired had only grazed Manik's arm, but it had severly damaged the Hayre avatar they had placed in the game.

Virtual World...

"T-the volcan-volcano is spl....spl...spl-i-i-i-it into th-three lev...levels. Yoooooou willlallstart a-at the t-t-t-top, and w-work...work...workyour way d-d-dooooown. Th-e-e-e-e first s-s-s-s-sIX t-to reaaaaach the bot...bot....bottom willlllll ad-advance."

Hayre suddenly flickered out of existence. You turn to one of the duelists, meaning to ask him if he also thought Hayre's behavior strange, but before you can open your mouth, he vanishes. In the next instant, you too are transported into the volcano. The race had begun.

TL;DR:

You're in a volcano. An ACTIVE volcano. Six of you will make it out alive.
