my idea- sales of cigarettes limited to current smokers only. This would give tobacco companies time to shut down peacefully and stop smoking adults from being anger.

Cigarettes would have to be ordered, not sold in stores, to prevent temptation/theft in young people

of course, that is a bit radical and controlling, not necessarily the best idea.

Limited to current smokers only? What if they give some cigarettes to a non-smoker and asked him to try it?

How very true, ragnarok. Besides, the ones telling a non-smoker to try it would probably be a person who works for the smoking company. In fact, if the conditions set by ZenQued were made, then the smoking company would probably have a few of their workers sell cigarettes illegally, either singles or packs, like how people sell illegal marijuana or other illegal drugs. Then the situation would pretty much be the same situation as before, but now illegal. Plus, how would you know if someone was a "current smoker" or not? I'm not sure if there is any really effective way to stop smoking. That's my view on the subject. Please tell me if it has any major flaws in it.

Well you COULD try smelling their breath for smoke smell, but then again some smokers have the ability to hide if very effectively (even if they just finished a cigarette 5 min ago)

wait' date=' that isn't happening right now? I mean, tax is already almost extortion, and people want these so much. But most people would still buy them the legal way.

that's true, but everyone has a limit. Desperate times call for desperate measures you know (remember the gas price explosion that rose it to nearly $5 per gallon? Look what people resorted to then). The same will happen once the prices are raised WAY too high on cigarettes
