Dark
The World, Our Earth What About Now ::: Chris Daughtry
Shadows fill an empty heartAs love is fading,From all the things that we areBut are not saying. Can we see beyond the scarsAnd make it to the dawn? Change the colors of the sky.And open up toThe ways you made me feel alive,The ways I loved you.For all the things that never died,To make it through the night,Love will find you. What about now? What about today? What if you're making me all that I was meant to be?What if our love never went away? What if it's lost behind words we could never find?Baby, before it's too late,What about now? The sun is breaking in your eyesTo start a new day. This broken heart can still surviveWith a touch of your grace.Shadows fade into the light.I am by your side,Where love will find you. What about now? What about today? What if you're making me all that I was meant to be?What if our love, it never went away? What if it's lost behind words we could never find?Baby, before it's too late,What about now? Now that we're here,Now that we've come this far,Just hold on.There is nothing to fear,For I am right beside you.For all my life,I am yours. What about now? What about today? What if you're making me all that I was meant to be?What if our love never went away? What if it's lost behind words we could never find? What about now? What about today? What if you're making me all that I was meant to be?What if our love never went away? What if it's lost behind words we could never find?Baby, before it's too late,Baby, before it's too late,Baby, before it's too late,What about now? I suggest you either watch them or read the lyrics so you can take part in the discussion. Watching the video is better, as the video itself (not the lyrics) contain the information I will be discussing. Thousands of people live in poverty. We scoff at their actions, calling them morons, losers, etc. But they deserve more than that. Those hobos who live in New York? Those are struggling people who are in need of money, food, water, the basic necesities which every single person reading this have. And you take them for granted. You come home from school or work and drink water, eat food, sleep on a bed. People living in poverty don't have water, food, beds, or electricity. You go to the mall and buy clothes from Holister, Lacoste, and those expensive stores with the pretty jewelry and the cool clothes you love to wear. These poverty-stricken people have no money, source of transportation, and have no more than about 2 pairs of clothes. Two pairs of clothes. TWO pairs of clothes. TWO pairs of CLOTHES. You can imagine what these people feel. You wake up in the morning and take a shower, with warm, steaming water and wash yourself with soap and shampoo. You buy toothpaste and use that to sanitize your teeth. You wrap yourself in the finest of towels to dry yourself off. You dry your hair, walk downstairs and eat breakfest. A large feast of eggs and toast greets you. You put on your shoes and walk outside. You either take the bus or have someone drive you (or you drive yourself) to your destination. This is your basic morning. Hobos have no shower, soap, shampoo, toothpaste, towels, breakfest, shoes or cars. You complain about the economy, how much money you lose when the stock market goes down. You try to conserve as best you can. But the poverty-stricken people are oblivious to this. To them, their "economy" has always been bad and will never get better. There are many organizations dedicated to helping these people. But think about it, do tons and tons of people rush to donate money? Do people send out their money in a nice envelope and hope that those people will stay safe and get a roof under them? 75% of Americans do not do this, they would rather use the money on themselves. The ironic thing is, we use our money on fruitless items like videogames, TVs, computers, etc. If we would take out $10 from our electronics and gave it away, we could give a family dinner for a day. You take your happiness for granted, at least you have a dinner every day. The finest beef from the best of cows, the longest China-imported steamed rice, a tall glass of apple juice from fresh apples. Hobos eat bread. And dirty water. Put yourself in their shoes, would you be willing to live in such conditions? Would you be able to succumb to the poverty-stricken life of these people? Would you be able to sacrifice your electronics, and the items that give you false happiness? You wouldn't. You think in your mind that everyone has these luxuries. Boy, are you wrong. You never thought of the struggling people in Africa. The media shows how many people are devoted to helping these people. You think they are selfless? They do that to get media attention. If they were really dedicated, they would not accept to be on news shows and be acredited for their good deeds. Good deeds means you don't get recognized for them. You go or went to school. You learned some stuff. Made some friends. Cursed at some teachers. And you will or did go to college. You will learn some stuff. Make some friends. Curse at some teachers. And then you get a job. And you get paid for it. People in Africa, India, poverty-struck countries have no education. The small villages in India have no form of education. Some people in Africa are still slaves. Some people are still discriminated against. Some people have no education. All these things you take for granted, so many people lack. SO MANY PEOPLE. You scoff and trigonometry and the Pythagoreon therom. Duh, everyone knows that, right? Wrong, again. So many people do not know how to read and write. Many people do know, but can't afford books. Consider these people, who are living in such horrible conditions, DYING. Wars between countries kill so many people. The current India-Pakistan war has left hundreds, if not thousands of people dead. And many people were those living in harsh, horrible conditions. These two countries are killing each other, stealing others citizens and killing them. The America-Iraq war has also left thousands of people dead. The ironic thing is, the Iraqi people who died were either terrorists or innocent people. Our soldiers killed people who didn't do a think. Like me killing you, because your President shot my mom. HIV, AIDS, Hepatitis, Tuburculosis, some other diseases. They kill thousands of people a year. And what have you, ANYONE done to help? Nothing. People in India, Africa, Afghanistan, cannot afford medical treatment or doctors. Your right hand gets infected? Cut it off. Your leg has a viral infection? Chop it off. People in America can drive to the nearest hostpital. Hey, Doctor Greenburg. Darnit, I got the flu. Can I get some medicine? Doctor Greenburg, the USA doctor, has the required materials for curing this guys disease. Doctor Greenburg, the Indian doctor, tells this guy to just sleep and hopefully rest it off. Tell me what is wrong with that. Ever seen Slumdog Millionaire? Before commencing into this next paragraph, please watch it or read a summary of it. Remember those Indian kids who were tricked into getting their eyes popped out? Remember that girl who was forced to become a whore? People are tortured all across the world. Slavery, while banned in the US, still takes place many places around the world. People in China are only allowed one kid. Guess what happens to the other kid. People see the benefit for themselves, and step on others. Ever seen Blood Diamond? Before commencing into this next paragraph, please watch it or read a summary of it. People came into Africa, killed a mass amount of people, and for what? Diamonds? Worthless jewelry that means nothing to us, but will allow poor people to barter for food and clean water. Why did we steal it? Greed. One person can make a difference. I can make a difference. You can make a difference. By donating to organizations to help these people, you have saved some persons life. You have saved someone's livelyhood. By taking some money out of your own pocket, you can save someones life. And that amount of money, you can never live on. Never. People decide not to, they know about these problems. They don't care. Discuss.

OMGAKITTY
tl;dr. Yes, the world is a shitty place. But that brings up such programs as Welfare. There are certain people on welfare who don't go out and look for jobs, simply because it's easier to live off of taxpayer's money. As to China's one child policy, it's because China's massively overpopulated. Too many people = not enough homes = more homeless. I get that you care, that you're passionate about this. I respect that. But also, remember the age group of the people here....most of them don't even have money to donate, if they were inclined to do such things anyway. Which, at 12-14, you really aren't. I realize what I said about China is vastly incorrect. It doesn't matter how old you are to make a difference. Same famous dude said that, but I just paraphrased it cuz I forgot his name. OMGAKITTY
I didn't say anything about younger people not being able to make a difference. I said that younger people have a tendency to not be able to see past their neighborhood, caring-wise. Also: Have you seen "Invisible Children"?I think you'd enjoy it. Dark
I've never seen Invisible Children, I'll probably be compelled to see it, though. And Tea and Cyber, if you don't contribute to the conversation, don't post. We are not talking about how funking lazy you two are or how stupid you are to post "tl;dr". We are talking about the topic. Stay with the times.
