Revival of Sin: Casting Shadows - By James Petruska (Chapter 5 is complete)

I am unable to release my chapter each day on the weekends, because I only have access to a word processing program (Microsoft word) on school days. I am very sorry about this, but the reason I cannot just type it in notepad or wordpad is because I will soon be linking and adding pictures of the characters, in a gallery of each chapter. Each chapter, however, will only include characters that were first described by their physical features in that chapter. Thank you for you patience, once again...

Special thanks to Ragnarok1945 for helping me finish the chapters by giving me the inspiration. The reason that I am so grateful for your help is because I would have thrown my story away, because I wouldn't have thought anyone else liked it, not to mention that I am not happy with how it turned out myself. But if someone else likes it, then I have to like it. This is because I can't call myself a worthless and useless writer when there are people that appreciate my writing...

In short, Ragnarok helped my confidence and self-esteem grow quite a bit. Thank you so much for lifting me out of what was seemingly an endless cycle of stories that I threw away...

I just finished this chapter today, but seeing as I have been lacking the free time to do a chapter a day, I will try from now on to make at least two chapters a week.

Ragnarok, how will you rate this one?

In any case, to all viewing this post, please, read chapter 4 below...

Chapter 4 – No Regrets:

I stood within the walls of the duelist arena. Sanria and Assiram stared each other down, Sanria waiting impatiently for Assiram to start her turn. Then Sanria realized that five minutes had almost passed. Sanria had only one thousand life points, while Assiram had exactly four thousand life points. Assiram had summoned a Blue-eyes White Dragon, which has three thousand attack points. The last card Assiram activated was Burst Stream of Destruction, which destroyed Sanria’s Volcanic Doomfire and Raging Flame Sprite. Sanria had a face down card in her spell and trap card zone.

“You have thirty seconds to make a move, or you foreit the duel.”

Assiram panicked, and then drew a card.

“I place one card face down in my spell and trap card zone! That ends my turn!”

Sanria smirked slightly.

“I didn’t say that you had to end your turn in thirty seconds, so why did you? I just said that you have to make a move within thirty seconds…”

Assiram frowned.

“You’re at a clear disadvantage, Sanria… You should worry more about trying to last longer.”

Sanria smiled.

“After I end my turn, you have to defeat me on your turn, or else you lose. After your next turn ends, Final Countdown’s effect will complete…”

Assiram grimaced.

“You have only one thousand life points… and only one face down card to protect you… you’ll be finished!”

Sanria grinned deeply.

“If you say so…”

Sanria drew a card to start her turn. I could tell from the look in Sanria’s eyes that it was over for Assiram. Sanria put on a false frown, in an attempt to make Assiram feel secure. The attempt was a complete success. Assiram laughed manically and then pointed her finger at Sanria.

“Do you want to forfeit now and save yourself a large amount of shame?”

Sanria shook her head, still frowning falsely.

“I do not. If I drop, then I will drop fighting!”

Assiram laughed manically. While she was doing this, Sanria placed the card she drew face down in her spell and trap card zone, but Assiram was laughing to hard to notice it appear on Sanria’s field. Sanria smiled, but quickly forced a false frown when Assiram stopped laughing. Sanria knew that it was over, as did I. But I couldn’t help wondering how Sanria could survive twenty turns with her fast-paced deck. Did she change her deck? I wondered, but knew I would have to ask her myself. Sanria crossed her arm, still falsely frowning.

“I guess I end my turn… Your move…”

Assiram drew a card to start her turn, and then grinned deviously.

“I activate Mystical Space Typhoon! The target lands on your solo face down card! Say goodbye to that face down card you’ve had for over five turns!”

Sanria smiled as she sent her first face down trap to the graveyard, and yet Assiram still didn’t notice the other trap on Sanria’s field.

“Then, I attack your life points directly! Go, Blue-Eyes White Dragon!”

Sanria grinned deeply.

“Hold! I activate negate attack! It negates your monster’s attack and ends the battle phase!”

Assiram gasped as she had no choice but to lose the duel faithfully or forfeit now. Assiram cleared her throat before speaking

“I end my turn!”

The effect of final countdown resolved, and Assiram’s field was engulfed in black flames that formed the face of a ghost. The flames disappeared soon afterward, as did the field hologram. Sanria walked calmly over to the now sobbing Assiram in an attempt to comfort her.

“You did well… Even though you may have lost, you learned a valuable lesson which you can use against your opponent’s next time; never be overconfident of your own power or skills.”

Assiram wiped her tears and looked up.

“Thank you for the advice. I will try harder… I am sorry I was so rude… That’s what happens when I become too confident, I guess…”

Sanria nodded.

“You are forgiven… You should look for a man named Nathan Retsiemrub and tell him that Semaj Aksurtep expects him to show up and pay for Sirhc Druh’s funeral. If you can deliver that message to him, we would be quite grateful…”

Assiram nodded, stood and walked away. Sanria walked to me.

“Would you like to know how I knew about the funeral?”

I nodded. Sanria sighed.

“There is an investigation going on right now, because they think you killed Sirhc Druh… But Nathan met us on the way and spoke to me personally about an assassination mission he was going on. I didn’t think he was serious until he passed by again, this time in blood-stained black robes.”

I gasped.

“What? He turned the blame for murdering my brother on me? He obviously won’t show for the funeral, then…”

She shook her head.

“Not true… He thinks you’ll be a prisoner by then, so he is showing up at the funeral to seem like he cared about Sirhc’s Life…”

I nodded, still shocked.

“I see… Then I assume you will help hide me until the funeral? It’s being held in the courtyard of the castle Sirhc died in…”

Leanne nodded, but I passed her a look of disapproval.

“Sorry, Leanne. I can’t hide with you, as they’ll obviously search at your home first. Everyone knows that we love each other, so we will have to part ways temporarily. Do you know where Sanria lives?”

Leanne shook her head. I sighed.

“And it must stay that way, until I can clear my name on the funeral day. You will not say anything about where I am, correct?”

Leanne nodded hesitantly, not wanting to part ways, but knew it was the only way that we could both keep living. Sanria opened the trunk of her armored van, and I climbed in. Went she shut the trunk, my view became pitch-black. Before Sanria started the van, I thought that I heard Leanne sobbing. I could sense the pain she must be going through by having to part ways with me. Alas, I did not think this to be the last time we would part ways. The path that I chose is full of danger, and there is almost every possibility that I will die while saving Leanne or Sanria, or maybe even while liberating the world of Itaav, but I wouldn’t count on that… not yet. Sanria opened trunk of her amored van when we arrived at her home.

“This is my home now… It’s not much, but I can’t find anywhere else to live now that I am away from my father…”

I climbed out of the trunk into a deep forest, so full of beauty, so full of life. The deciduous trees had quite colorful leaves, but the evergreens were still green. Which was to be expected from that type of tree. The flowers were in full bloom, and the ferns were fully grown from the rich soil of this environment. I nearly became entranced with the beauty of the forest. Sanria noticed that I was gawking at the various features of the area, and put her arm on my shoulder to reveive my attention.

“You’re in the last living part of the forest of graves, the trees of which are covered by the taller trees, but some kind of magic barrier traps light within this area, making it spring and daytime everyday… the weather never changes… It might be beautiful now… but how long can you appreciate its beauty before you find it dull?”

I shook my head, still scanning the various features of this part of the forest of graves.

“No… this is unearthly… I must have died in the trunk… This is too perfect to be anything on earth!”

She shook her head with disapproval.

“The souls of those who were mudered by Itaav’s ravenous minions wtihing the forest protect all people in this area, so long as they are good at heart. If they are not, they cannot enter this area.”

I nodded, but I still felt dead, somehow I felt I was missing an important part of my heart. I must have died without it. At the castle, the funeral preparations were happening, and the funeral would be stalled until Leanne showed up, as she was Nathan’s sister, but Nathan was not paying for the funeral. Bocaj was. Bocaj, Ekim, Leanne, Semaj and Sanria all knew the truth about how Nathan murdered Sirhc, and without crying a single tear for him, he made the funeral preparations. Others had suspicions, but they thought Nathan was a good person, and was just trying to control his own emotions. He was not. He didn’t feel any regret for killing Sirhc, and Bocaj saw a problem with that.

“Don’t you feel for Sirhc? He’s been murdered.”

Nathan nodded.

“Yes, but crying won’t do me any good. Grieving for one’s loss won’t do anything to bring them back…”

Bocaj passed him a glare, and it was at that moment that Nathan saw that Bocaj knew the truth.

“I’ll kill you when you first drop your guard and no one is there to see it, and then you’ll end up with Sirhc…”

Bocaj smiled, pulling a audio recorder from his pocket, connecting it to an amplifier and playing it. Then, everyone passed a glare at Nathan. Bocaj drew his blade, just in case their was a need to fight to protect the people around him. Ekim pulled two semi-automatic, forty-five caliber pistols from his sleeves.

“Nathan… You’re surrounded, so surrender your weapon. Don’t take the Ethina-Ru Gun Kata lightly… You should rid yourself of any weapons you’re concealing in your tuxedo as well… I saw you place three daggers in there earlier.”

Nathan smiled he pulled as smoke ball from his cloak. Ekim pointed the gun at him, standing around twenty feet away.

“Halt! You’ll never throw that ball down before you end up with a bullet in your chest!”

Nathan placed the smoke ball on the ground slowly, to avoid be shot. He then pulled his weapons out of his suit, placing them on ground. He then stepped away slowly, tossing his sheathed katana onto the ground. The police arrive, and Bocaj played the voice recording again as they entered.

“Freeze! I assume that you are Nathan Retsiemrub?”

Nathan nodded. The police handcuffed him and took him to the police station. Then, Leanne left the funeral for a moment to use her pager to call me.

“Semaj. Your name has been cleared. Come help us with the funeral preparations…”

I took my pager from my pocket and decided that I should reply.

“Of course. I’ll be there in a matter of hours…”

Leanne received my message a few minutes later. She nodded at Bocaj, who called a hearing before they start the funeral preparations.

“You may now know that Nathan was the true assassin that murdered Sirhc. But please also know that although Semaj had something to do with it, he was only trying to avenge Sirhc’s death, and did not assist in the murder… In fact, without his help, Nathan wouldn’t have gotten overconfident and said anything, and he would be here today, quietly murdering anyone who had suspicions of him. So let us rally behind Semaj, as he will lead us to victory against any tyrant!”

The people looked confused for a moment, and then all of them turned to see that I was entering through the front door. Everyone in the room bowed to me as I walked past toward Sirhc’s coffin. I tried to hold back my tears, but I began sobbing.

“Sirhc! My last relative… My only relative that was left… Now I am left without a family in this world… Why couldn’t I protect you? WHY?!”

Leanne patted me on the shoulder as I continued to sob uncontrollably. I knew that it was only a matter of time before I had to make tough decisions of who I can protect…

  • 4 weeks later...

It took me more than a month month to get back on track, because my windows operating system crashed. It took me a bit less than one month to get my computer up and running again. I will now continue to make two chapters per week, as promised previously. I have finished chapter seven, but to stay ahead of the story, I will only release this chapter and chapter six this week. Another note is that I am currently working on chapter eight, which remained unfinished in the month that my computer did not work...

Special Thanks to everyone, especially Ragnarok1945, who stood with me and reviewed my chapters as i released them. I feel so excited that my computer is working that I will share some previously top-secret information about my story... It will have a length of 53 chapters, which includes the prologue, chapters one through fifty, the final chapter, and then, the epilogue. it will be a minimal 520 pages in length, if you were to open it in microsoft word.

Everything aside, her is the chapter you've all been waiting for:

Chapter 5 – Maddening Heart:

As the funeral ended, I gave a new name during an announcement. Semaj the Protector. That was my new name, as I intended to protect what I loved with anything and everything I could do, by almost any means necessary. I noticed as I left the church that the funeral was being held in, that the sky was red, and the moon took abnormal crescent shape. The clouds were pitch-black, as if darkness was engulfing the entire world right now. I knew it must have some connection to Itaav, but that was the least of my concerns right now. People were running loose, murdering each other like wolves and scavenging like cannibalistic vultures... I knew that something had to be done, before all humanity came to an end.

“Leanne! Bar all those who are in the church, who still have their minds, inside for a while!”

Leanne just stared at me, her mouth watering. She hadn't escaped the trap that most of humanity had fallen to. I would need to put her in a coma, until things settled down. But that would also leave her defenseless. I though that I could talk it out for a moment, but knew that wouldn't get me anywhere as she lunged at me with a pair of gardening shears...

“I want your flesh! It is on the menu for my dinner tonight!”

I struggled with Leanne, and knew what had to be done... I had no choice but to put her out for a few months. So I struck her temple as we were struggling, and she fell unconscious almost instantly. I would have to do the same to the rest of my friends and Sanria before I tried to put anyone else out.

“Sanria! Don't I look tasty?”

Sanria shook her head, giving me a very confused look. It appeared that some still had complete sanity, just as I did.

“That was a test. I'm glad to see that you're still sane.”

Sanria shrugged, and then tossed me my katana.

“Only use it if you have to, Semaj. I'll protect Leanne while you get the others!”

I sighed, not realizing how capable Sanria was of taking care of herself.

“But... You can't be serious about protecting Leanne from all of these people, can you?”

Sanria smiled, and for a moment, I went into shock as I thought she had lost her sanity, but she was still sane, and her smile quickly turned to a frown.

“Don't be so paranoid. I don't bite. Anyway, yes, I will protect Leanne from all of these people... There isn't much time, so go!”

I nodded and returned to the church to render everyone inside unconscious, during which I found Bocaj and Ekim. I brought them out one at a time, and set them by Sanria to protect. I then went to search for Nathan, which was a highly dangerous task since I had to put down several well-trained security guards that went insane, and possibly also Nathan, regardless of his sanity level. I enter the prison and was attacked immediately, which forced me to put down all of the corrupted police officers in the building. I went to the holding cell area, but I needed a key. I went to the side where Nathan sat in a corner, surrounded by the bodies of all of his cell mates, covered in blood. Nathan stood to find me standing before him.

“Oh no... It's you. I don't have nearly enough energy to fight you off... Wait... You're not insane?”

I shook my head.

“There were four people that I know of that are still completely themselves... Myself, you, Sanria, and Itaav.”

He frowned.

“My apologies for your brother's death... But I don't expect forgiveness... I know that you don't believe that I am sorry... In fact, sometimes, I don't even believe what I say myself...”

I smiled.

“No hard feelings... I came to declare a truce... Are you going to agree to it?”

He grimaced.

“To do what? Take on all of the insane people on earth?”

I frowned, knowing he hasn't seen much from his cell other than dead people and total insanity.

“No. We are going to save as many people as possible, and I have a task for you... After I set you free, of course.”

I went to the key rack and took the cell keys, and opened the door.

“You're free to go, but since we have this truce, we might as well work together to save those we can.”

Nathan nodded, acknowledging my plans.

“Please continue, Semaj... I'll do anything you want me to do.”

I nodded with approval.

“Will you protect Leanne, Bocaj and Ekim with Sanria's help while I find my friends Relyt, Kcin, Yroc and Etan?”

He nodded, and then I smiled.

“Alright. She's very near to the church that the funeral was held at. Go there to protect her. Do not kill anyone, just put anyone that's insane into a coma. But also, make sure to tell Sanria that I want any who are unconscious that we don't know to be left untouched and unprotected if it would cost us our real friends.”

He nodded and left. I went to search for Relyt first, seeing as he's the weakest of the people I needed to look for and save. My search ended more quickly than expected as I saw him cornered and shivering, surrounded by cannibalistic, insane police officers.I jumped over the fence between us, and then the police officers attacked me instead. This was the ideal situation, as I easily put each one of them into a coma, this time striking the back of their necks. Relyt, still quivering in fear, stumbled toward me cautiously.

“Do not worry... There were few of people who kept their sanity, but be reassured that the ones that did will protect the ones that did not, and help them to become themselves again.”

Relyt stopped quivering and let out a deep breath of relief. I gestured Relyt to follow me, after which I lead him back to where Sanria and Nathan had cleared the area, making it safe, but only until another wave of cannibalistic citizens find it. They didn't kill a single one, but all of the attackers were now in comas that would last for several months. Bocaj, Ekim and Leanne were still unconscious as well, not that it was surprising.

“Relyt. I am going to leave you with Sanria and Nathan. Nathan... Will you teach him how to do blocks, and then how to put those who went insane into comas?”

Nathan nodded. I smiled, knowing Relyt was in good hands, and also knowing that Nathan did feel terrible for what he did to my brother, but wants to redeem himself now. I thought it interesting that Sanria didn't talk to me as all, as if she was mad at me, and after realizing that, I frowned.

“Sanria...”

I sighed after waiting nearly thirty seconds. There was no response, she simply looked away and silently counted the people in comas.I grimaced.

“Sanria! You're mad at me... Don't try to hide it this way! You should know that I am smarter than that!”

Sanria blinked in confusion, immediately turning her attention to me, then looking away again. I was about to start yelling, but held it in long enough to hear her sigh. It seemed that she wasn't ignoring me, it was just that she felt frustrated about me in some way. She opened her mouth to speak, but there was a short delay.

“I don't know what to say... You spend so much time with Leanne... I think it isn't fair.”

I sighed with frustration.

“Why are you jealous? I am sure you can find another person who will appreciate you more than I.”

Sanria frowned.

“I am not jealous! I never said that!”

I smiled.

“Actions speak louder than words, my friend.”

She turned away once more, this time looking for anyone that she might have forgotten to knock out. I shrugged and left to find Yroc, who is definitely the second least likely to live for more than a few hours in this situation. But this time, I had to travel past Kcin's home, and although I could stop to rescue Kcin on the way, time is of the essence, and to get to Etan's home, I had to deal with Yroc anyway. I traveled slowly, as quiet and cautious as possible, so as not to draw any attention to myself that was unnecessary. When I had to walk into the open, I knew that it would be trouble. Sure enough, I was almost immediately ttacked while crossing the road to arrive at Yroc’s home, and yet more people I had to put into comas. I broke down the door to Yroc’s hone to find three cannibals trying to find Yroc, and then they turned their attention to me. I put them into comas, and beckoned Yroc, who was hiding under his sofa.

“You’re not another cannibal, are you?”

I shook my head, realizing just how little Yroc knew of the situation.

“Those people aren’t normally cannibals, either… But some sky bound spell has driven them to insanity.”

He crawled from his hiding place and stood before me.

“That’s odd… That sky bound spell you speak of… It didn’t affect me!”

I nodded.

“I think it has something to do with Itaav. And he either forgot you existed or wanted you to stay sane for some cruel reason.”

He gave me a confused look and then I sighed.

“Follow me, but stay close! We’re going to rescue Kcin and Etan! Let’s go retrieve Etan! You know the way, but I know a shortcut… Just tell me if moving in the right direction or not until we reach the shortcut on the way!”

He looked at me funny, and then began following me. I did not yet know that Etan and Kcin were about to engage in a duel, and will stop at nothing to finish it. I arrived at Etan’s home shortly, passing through the shortcut to arrive faster. Etan was standing across from Kcin in his backyard arena for duelists.

“Kcin! You are a traitor! You left us to be in a more ‘mature’ setting! You have no idea what true friendship is…”

Kcin tried to explain, but was not heard by Etan.

“Please… It wasn’t like that!”

Etan grimaced.

“You expect me to believe that you actually care? Not a chance! You never cared! And you know something? You never will…”

Kcin sighed, knowing he spoke to deaf ears. They fitted their duel disks and started their life point counters when I entered the arena sidelines.

“Etan… What are you doing?”

Etan glared at me, then noticed Yroc.

“I see you brought another person to witness our duel… But Kcin betrayed me! He was like a brother to me, and then… He left! So I tricked him into coming over to my house, and then blackmailed him to duel me… He deserves every bit of it!”

I shook my head with disapproval.

“I know you can change your ways… Do it before it’s too late to turn back!”

Etan laughed manically in the voice of Itaav. I noticed this immediately, and knew he was under the control of Itaav.

“It’s already too late, mortal! You should just surrender whilst you have a chance! Kcin’s betrayal shall be his downfall!”

I fitted my duel disk, ready to duel Etan if Kcin lost. But I would have to win quickly, as if Kcin lost, there wouldn’t be much time. Itaav’s powers are a weapon of death, which he can also bestow upon anyone he controls.

“I will duel the winner of this duel! Itaav… If you win, you still lose!”

Etan laughed manically, this time in his own voice.

“What are you talking about? Itaav isn’t here, is he?”

I nodded.

“Your cheap mind tricks don’t fool me, Itaav. Come out from your hiding place in the woods!”

Etan stood still to wait for Itaav’s next command. Itaav walked from the forest, grinning deviously.

“You came to settle an old score? You should wait for the tournament…”

I shook my head.

“You’ve gone too far! Your hellish ways end here… Let us duel!”

Itaav nodded.

“It’s two deaths for the price of one, then! You shall die here, too, and all hope for your precious, beloved Leanne end with your death!”

I gasped.

“What? You… Stay away from Leanne!”

Itaav chuckled.

“It’s amazing how small your vocabulary comes when you fear you’ll also lose the life of someone you love dearly…”

I grimaced.

“You are conceited, no doubt… Your confidence is impeccable, but you’re just a devious harlequin who thinks he’s actually immortal…”

Itaav laughed manically as he pointed at Kcin and Etan, who were engrossed in a duel, which Etan was winning.

“You’d better hurry and defeat me if you want to save Kcin! But trust me… You shall not bar my path!”

I grimaced, and then we fitted our duel disks, quickly starting our life point counters. I had to get Itaav to fear me, somehow… but there was only one thing left for me to do to bring fear to his eyes… I would have to reveal that I knew his secret… but this would not matter soon enough, when I played at my best…

“My turn!”

I drew a card to start my turn, grinning at my hand. I had to time the usage of the cards exactly correct, though… If I did not, I would lose the duel by a landslide. It was time to set my plan into action… Leanne gave me this deck, and I hadn’t had time to master it by heart, so I would have to focus hard and think fast to win this duel.

“I activate the field spell card, Light Barrier! It allows me to toss a coin during my standby phase! If the result is tails, its secondary effects are negated until my following standby phase! After the result is heads, whenever I summon an Arcana Force Monster, it allows me to choose the result of the coin toss without tossing a coin!”

Itaav laughed manically for several moments.

“Is that how you think you’ll win? By using a deck that only one person has ever been able to master? Leanne is the only one who ever mastered that deck type… You won’t come close!”

I grimaced, not caring to respond to his comments. After all, time was a precious thing right now… Which I had a very small amount of…

“I activate Double Summon! You know where this leads… I normal summon Samsara Lotus (atk / 0; def / 0)! If this card is in my graveyard during my end phase, I can special summon it to my field, as long as my spell and trap card zones are empty! I take one thousand life points of damage during each of my standby phases if this card is face-up on my side of the field!”

Itaav laughed manically as an ominous green, stem-like being with yellow eyes materialized, became plump, and then many deceptive, pink petals bloomed from the head of the its stem, after which giving off a sweet, orange blosson-like aroma. It soon planted its roots in the ground and sprouted two leaves of the stem, from each of which grew five blades of grass to resemble fingers.

“Where’s the other Samsara Lotus? You aren’t going to skip any of my turns with just that one!”

From Itaav’s expression, I knew that he had either known that I was using Leanne’s deck from the start, or he figured it out quickly, and has improved in his duelist intellect since our last meeting… But I knew that my hand still containedthe other Samsara Lotus, which I would have to use now…

“I normal summon yet another Samsara Lotus! Same effect, same deal!”

Another ominous green being with yellow eyes materialized, stemming from the ground nearly as thin as a drinking straw, but becoming plump quickly just as the previous one had. The same deceptive, pink petals bloomed atop the head of the stem, and the pairs of yellow eyes blinked constantly. The aroma was like that of orange blossoms, but I knew that those petals contained corrosive liquid. It rooted itself into the ground just likethe previous one had, growing two leaves and five blades of grass from each leaf.

“That ends my turn!”

I stepped back as Itaav suddenly lunged past my monsters and poked me between my eyes with his left index finger, as if using death touch, and then jumped back. I was confused for a moment, but realized that he had death touch still shortly afterward. I also knew now that death touch would not kill him, as anyone who possesses death touch cannot be killed or harmed by it. This also gave me an opportunity to strike fear into Itaav.

“Fool! I still know more about the bloodline train that was originally mine from birth… You cannot kill any person who was born with it! But those that have it are still vulnerable, if they were not born with it… You’re going to die today!”

Itaav gasped and began panicking.

“My turn!”

Itaav drew a card to start his turn.

“I set one face down card in my spell and trap card zone! Then, I activate Raigeki! It destroys all of your monsters! That ends my turn…”

The two Samsara Lotuses explode and a whirlwind of thorns and petals twists the air. I brace myself for effect’s impact on my body, but it was no good. The winds knocked me off of my feet and choked me, sucking my lungs dry of air. It would seem that he also grew significantly in power. The whirlwind suddenly vanished, just in time for me to prevent my death. I gasped for air for a few moments, then began panting, mostly out of fatigue.

“My… turn…”

I painfully moved my arm to my deck. It took me a few moments before I could hold the pain in enough to draw a card, then starting my turn. I could still hardly breathe.

“I… Flip a coin… For… Light Barrier’s… Effect…”

I pulled a gold coin from my pocket slowly, and then tossed it into the air. It landed on heads.

“Good… I get to… choose the result… of any Arcana Force… Monster’s coin toss… Without… Tossing a coin… And now… I will… Normal summon… Kaiser Sea Horse… It has… One thousand… Six hundred… Attack points… And… One thousand… Seven hundred… Defense points…”

Itaav crossed his arms, then pointed at Kcin. He had won, but only barely, and Etan was release from his control. Kcin didn’t yet know that Etan was manipulated to do Itaav’s bidding. I saw this, and Itaav took advantage of this chance to taunt me.

“Are you feeling a bit winded? Muahahahaha!”

I grimaced, and then activated a card, still breathing quite hard.

“I activate Double Summon… It…”

I coughed up something, seemingly blood. It appeared that Itaav’s death touch was superior to mine… But I couldn’t die yet, now that I know that I was being killed, I needed to fight death head-on once more… But this time… I most likely wouldn’t be able to move about to take Itaav’s cards from him. Kcin and Etan both watched our duel with confusion, and Etan recognized Itaav right away, at which point he spoke out.

“It’s Itaav! That was the guy that forced me to go against my will and duel you, Kcin! Semaj… You can vouch for me, right?”

I nodded, and then coughed up more blood. I needed to focus on winning the duel and fighting death, without distractions.

“Don’t talk, guys… I need to… Focus… To protect those that I… That I love…”

Etan and Kcin immediately fell silent as they saw me smiling.

“I won’t rest until I have saved Sanria and destroyed you, Itaav! And I know who released the Dark God of Despair and struck a deal with it to control Etan, as long as the world was destroyed! But why would you prefer to take control of Etan? I think it is because you thought that you would increase his skills if you gave him your powers… It didn’t work, did it? Even with Etan’s mighty deck, he still lost to not only myself, but also Kcin!”

Itaav laughed manically.

“You’re pathetic… You have no way to back those words up…”

I laughed sarcastically.

“You’re a fine one to talk… What do you fight for, Itaav? You’re motives for everything you do are cruel and evil, but also pathetically planned out… This will be the third time I foiled your plans!”

Itaav gave me a confused look.

“Would this be the third time? I could swear the last time we met was in the forest of graves, and the second time would have happened, but they said that my daughter released you of her own accord…”

I nodded.

“She released me because I was charismatic enough to persuade her, and also because I stood for what’s right to do, unlike you… You tortured your first and only child into becoming a monster, and to being evil… and now, I have helped her out of the hole she was in, mainly because of you…”

Itaav laughed.

“Well then… If you can win without taking any damage, you’ll live! But because of my powers, any damage you receive from death touch is amplified, which means, in your current condition… You’ll certainly die!”

I shook my head.

“I don’t have a reason to die, but I have many reasons to live, unlike you… You will die, as retribution for all of the people you’ve killed, driven insane, and force me to place in comas… But first, you will feel the pains of each and every one of those people… And I will be the one making you feel it!”

Itaav gave me a confused look, perhaps because he did not hear everything that I said. But I knew that he had it all in his mind. And I thought of one sentence that would describe the difference between Itaav and myself, which I thought would help him realize his actions were wrong. I spoke it shortly after the thought.

“Here’s a message… Let’s see if you can find the truth in it, Itaav… A lonely past drove one person to hatred, but another to love. This persuaded one to become evil, but the other one became pure of heart. Then, one chose the road of tyranny, whilst one looked to redeem himself for past deeds, and even though he is not redeemed for his sins yet, he has become a hero… Who are these two people? They are real people, one of which still lives, while the other one hangs in a state of half-death where he cannot be killed.”

Itaav paused for a moment before speaking.

“Etan and Kcin?”

I shook my head.

“Not even close… It was the message that describes the difference between you and I… but that message could change, as could your life… You just need to work to rebuild the world you have worked to destroy…”

He laughed manically, and I frowned. That plan was out the window, so I needed to complete this duel.

“Fine… If you won’t stop your reign of terror, I’ll end it for you!”

I coughed up more blood, then realizing just how long I had been speaking. I needed to finish fast, probably before five more of my turns pass…

“I activate Double Summon! It allows me to normal summon or set an additional monster this turn… I release Kaiser Sea Horse, to advanced summon Arcana Force XXI – The World (atk / 3100; def / 3100)! Because of the effect of Light Barrier, I get to choose the coin toss result, without tossing a coin! I choose heads! Not done yet… I enter my battle phase… Then… Arcana Force XXI – The World attacks your life points directly!”

Itaav reveals a face down trap.

“I activate Negate Attack! It negates your attack and ends the battle phase!”

I grimaced. I knew that fighting him was risky, but then I realized it was over for him, so I smiled.

“It’s over for you… I enter my end phase! But! Before your turn begins, I get my Samsara Lotuses back! Then, I tribute both of them to skip your turn!”

Itaav grimaced.

“What? You’re going to seriously kill me?”

I nodded.

“Sorry… But it has to be done! My turn again!”

I drew another card to start my next turn. I had no option but to keep going like this, but quickly.

“I enter my battle phase! I then attack your life points directly with Arcana Force XXI – The World! You take 3100 damage!”

Itaav braced himself as boulders started rolling toward him. There were six boulders rolling toward him. He had nowhere to run or hide. The overwhelming pressure was crushing him. He must have forfeited, as the field hologram disappeared, as did the boulders shortly after. He barely stood up, and I fell to my knees in pain. Since I couldn’t walk at this point, I crawled to Itaav. Etan and Kcin followed me to pull me away.

“Wait! His cards… I need to deprive him of them! It’s fair punishment!”

Kcin nodded.

“Then allow me…”

I shook my head.

“Go to Sanria… Yroc will show you the way to the Fairview Catholic Church. When you see Sanria and Relyt, they are helping to protect Leanne, Bocaj and Ekim. Make sure to help them with whatever they need.”

Etan and Kcin looked at Yroc. Etan spoke first.

“Yroc… Lead the way!”

Etan and Kcin followed Yroc from the area back to the church. I wasn’t done with my mission yet, though… Itaav is paralyzed, and I can still move… It was time to take his cards… But when I looked back, he wasn’t there, but there was a cloaked figure with eyes nothing like Itaavs… or were they? They glowed yellow inside the pitch-dark nothingness that walked inside the cloak. The being didn’t seem to have hands, or even feet… I wondered if it was actually the second god, the Dark God of Doom… I felt a chill run up my spine, and something made me stand… I walked toward the being helplessly, and no matter how much I resisted, I couldn’t walk away. I kept walking, until I head his voice.

“Come to me without hesitation… and be rewarded… But if I must take you by force… You’ll suffer for an eternity, and I’ll make you live forever just so that you can suffer…”

I shook my head, gathering enough will power and reasons to live happily to actually fight his grip on my mind.

“You… Actually think that you… Can defy me? I am… A god…”

I knew the truth now, but it wasn’t the end for me… Three years ago, I defeated the fourth god, the Dark God of Despair… That god was much more powerful than this one… I had to live on, to protect Leanne… My friend… But most of all… The world…

“I… I will not yield to you, or any god!”

The cloaked god let out a cold, evil laugh.

“You’re quite a fighter… But I’ll have you know… I have become much more powerful since I acquire my dead brother’s power…”

I knew exactly whom he was speaking of… But I wasn’t about to die in vain… I had to have a good reason to die, and this wasn’t it… If I died here and now, I would have accomplished nothing except letting my friends escape… But it was only a temporary thing…

“I will not… Die here! I must live on to protect the one I love!”

He laughed coldly. I struggled so hard now that he couldn’t hold my mind with the full extent of his powers. Soon afterward, I broke free of his grip, and fled. I fled to the church, but oddly enough, no one was around. At least, none of my friends were around…
