[spoiler=Introduction: A Fate?]Pokémon Academy To the parents/guardians of Ashton Izinami Your son and/or daughter has been cordially invited to take an entrance exam for The Academy of Accelerated Pokémon Training. Information pertaining to our school is enclosed. Please register as soon as possible as space in our highly esteemed halls is limited. And that’s how it all started; an innocent invitation to perhaps the most prestigious training school in all of Sinnoh. I came home to find that letter on top of the dirt strewn welcome mat to my family’s house. Perhaps I should give you some background information before I start in on my long tale. I lived in Celestic Town, a small little village nestled near Mt. Coronet. Saying it was tiny might be redundant but whatever. Life in Celestic Town is stable but monotonous as is life in any insignificant town. I really had no worries outside of my studies, goals, and family. My father was rarely home as he worked in the coal mines of Oreburgh City. So the task of raising me right was left to my mother who worked in the local shop so the chore of keeping the house clean was left to me at the early age of ten. It was around there that I had decided to try and work with Pokémon. With Celestic Town the last stop near Mt. Coronet, we often had trainers coming through to purchase medicine and what not for their journey. During times like that I have to help my mother at the store because of all the people. It was at that point that I think I felt like I had something to work for. It was near closing time but the flow of people into the store wasn’t even close to subsiding. One of the trainers was sitting in the corner crying, so I, being a typical ten year-old, wandered over to ask what was wrong. He just looked up at me and gave me a sad smile before showing me a black poke ball. “Wouldn’t you be sad too if part of you died?” I learned a few days later from my mother that the trainer I had talked to was attacked on the road to Eterna City by thieves and that he was shown no mercy. It was only later, when I saw other trainers playing and battling that I understood why he had been so…broken. It’s a common thing among trainers that the bonds between them and their Pokémon were stronger than even the closest family. I understood what he had meant. I would be sad if part of me had died. Now you may be wondering how that inspired me to try and become a trainer. Honestly? I don’t really know. That experience just sticks out as the biggest example of friendship between living things. Humans aren’t the only ones to feel emotions you know. When I turned twelve, the legal age in Sinnoh to start learning about Pokémon and different options pertaining to them, I began immediately and with great interest. Outside of my normal school studies, I spent the rest of my time learning what I could about Pokémon: theories on where they had come from, different training techniques, proper care and handling, battles, contests, shows, health and anatomy, and of course psychology. When I turned sixteen I was originally going to try and get my license to study the behavior of Pokémon instead of training them but once again fate decided to intervene once again. It was shortly after my birthday that I was invited to the town elder’s home. When I had arrived, she turned and regarded me gravely. “Um…you wished to see me?” I asked. She only sighed and pointed towards a decrepit table whose age probably surpassed her own. Giving her an odd stare, I moved over towards it and what lay on top of it. “Your father sent those to me as soon as he found them and the letter with them said to give one of them to you,” she said in a quiet voice. My eyes widened. On the table lay one elemental stone of each type; one fire, one water, and one thunder. “I have no idea what he’s thinking because you have no Pokémon but,” she sighed, “he is your father.” I picked each one up at a time and rolled them in my hand. The fire stone felt alive in my hand, spreading warmth throughout my palm while the water stone felt slightly chilled and gave me a sense of calm. The thunder stone did the opposite, pulsing and sending twinges of energy through my body. I set them back in their respective places.“Did he have anything else?” I asked the elder. She reached into her pocket of produced a sealed envelope. Silently, I thanked her that she did not open it. Opening the old fashioned wax seal, my heart skipped a beat as I read his letter. Dear Ashton,I’m writing this and sending you this package hoping that it will reach you as soon as possible. I’m sorry that I missed your birthday. I know it was special since it was your sixteenth but I thought giving you these would be a way to try and make amends for that. You are interested in the study of Pokémon so I thought these would interest you. You may only choose one for right now. Until you are ready you cannot use the others.Your loving father Looking over the stones once again, I hesitantly reached out. There was something about destiny that stuck in the back of my throat, like some sort of divine intervention but I knew all that was garbage. I was making too big of a deal out of this. Shaking my head to clear my thoughts, I seized the thunder stone in my fist and pocketed it. Turning back to face the elder, I asked, “Are you going to keep the other two?” She nodded solemnly. “Good. If that’s all then I should get going.” I proceeded out the door. This brings me back to the letter I now hold in my hand. You know…I’m starting to think that maybe there is something to this destiny thing. Shiranui
I suppose it's a prologue...though it's kinda like a pilot episode if you know what I mean.
