***Forum Movie Reviewers Needed***

If you haven't read, someone made a suggestion about being able to write movie reviews which of course started a little idea. Therefore we are gonna give this thing a whirl by organizing some members to become movie reviewers for YCM, so if you are interested apply here. This is not a staff position you will just have rights on creating movie reviews for the rest of YCM.

All I'll need from you is your name, the name of a movie you can review as an example, and then your example review...then I'll give your applications a little read over and let you know via PM.

Example Review:

Movie: Paul Blart: Mall Cop

We all know the classic story idea about an underdog, do-nothing, never gets anywhere in life hero. We have seen it done and re-done in countless movies. We have seen so many versions of it that we thought we had seen it all.

We should be pleasantly suprised.

I know I was. Entering the theater I sat back for what I expected to be an hour and a half of slapstick, fat-guy-falling over jokes. Instead I was treated to a sumptuous buffet of one-liners, monologues, well-timed explosions, and drunken stupors.

The movie tells the story of Paul Blart, a man working as a mall security guard, who has never been able to complete his trials to become a state trooper. He finally gets his break though, when the mall is taken over by a group of teenage thieves, with him inside. He then goes on a mission, to find the hostages they have, and take down the terrorists.

His escapades have their share of misteps and miscalculations, but in the end, the hero saves the day. It wasn't an unexpected ending, as it can be seen a mile away, but it is well-done, showing quality writing skills from the folks at Happy Gilmore.

It may not have been a legendary film, but it is still a solid and strong film. And at a PG rating, one the whole family can enjoy.

I guess I can give this a shot.

Seyton Kabott

Le Counte de Monte Cristo (I have been pm'ed that it was a good movie and I watched it recently. 20 dollars worth, but well spent.)

-Justice outdone by God's power as the most interesting characters appear on the screen 20 years back in Le Counte de Monte Cristo, set at the time of Napoleons era, where the protagonist, Edmond Dantes, is framed and is sent to prison for life without trial at all. Pride, romance, and true emotions will turn when Edmond returns to his homeland and encounters an overturned world where everything Dantes once knew had turned Topsy-turvy on him. His whole world changed, Edmond sets out to take down those who brought him down, with justice. A truly divine cinematic experience, Le Counte de Monte Cristo is a fascination that is a classic. Nominated and praised, you must be totally insane to miss out on this epic movie.

5*/5*

7 hours of a movie well spent.

The characters are truly their characters as if they were actually the characters.

Not for Twilight over-rated teens, but a remarkable performance in my view and yours as well if you experience...Le Counte de Monte Cristo.

I would stand and clap to this phenomenon or a movie.

Good-night.

[spoiler=The Dark Night]

[spoiler=The Good]

One of the things I was preparing myself for was how over hyped the performance of Heath Ledger was going to be. Since he passed away, I knew he’d be getting rave reviews out the ying yang no matter what and I’d be frowned upon if I said any different. But holy mother suck puss face… HEATH LEDGER DESERVES AN OSCAR NOMINATION FOR HIS PERFORMANCE AS THE JOKER… no… I’m not even kidding in the least. I was totally, 100% blown away like nothing I’ve ever seen in a comic based movie before. He is at all times completely believable, at all time relentlessly disturbing, at all times nightmarishly frightening and at all times THE JOKER. This is a slightly different vision of The Joker than we’ve ever seen before… but it hits the mark so purely that even Batman himself is made to feel like a secondary character. It really was the performance of a lifetime for Ledger in all its poetic tragedy. I can not stress this enough… Ledger really was that good in this flick, and if he gets an Oscar nomination (which he really should), it won’t be out of sympathy or sentimentality… it will be because it was a performance worth of the honor. Absolute best performance in a comic book movie I’ve ever seen. Yes, he was THAT good.

The script was fantastic. The story moved forward at all times, the dialog was crisp, at times profound and always in character relative to the scenario. The way all the key characters are used in vital ways in the plot… all interconnecting in a very naturally feeling way… never forced… was something to see.

The action in The Dark Knight was vastly superior to Batman Begins in every way, shape and form. And we’re not just talking about fight scenes either. There are a couple of scenes that are more like heist movies than comic book ones and they totally work. The camera work is also much better for the fight and action in this movie than they were in the original which was quite a relief since that was one of my few complains about Begins.

Speaking of cinematography… it was INSANELY good. Visually speaking, the camera did as much work in The Dark Knight communicating elements to the audience as the dialog did. It was never over the top or gimmicky either. Each shot felt purposefully selected to aide in communication the underlaying emotion and experiences of the characters on screen… while at the same time giving us a sense of vastness to the scope of the shots. I could just sit and watch this movie on mute again and I’d probably still like it just as much.

Maggie Gyllenhaal (who took over for Katie Holmes) actually made Rachel Dawes a GOOD character instead of the eye gougingly annoying one that Holmes managed to make her out to be. The Dawes character is an important one… but the way Holmes portrayed her made us all wish she was never there in the first place… Gyllenhaal made her work, and work well.

What can I say? All the cast were solid. Christain Bale, Caine, Gary Oldman (who was especially good with a much bigger and more important role this time around), Eric Roberts… the list goes on and on. When an entire cast does such a good job, you have to look at the director. Christopher Nolan sir…. we salute you!

Holy crap did Two Face look WICKED!!!

[spoiler=The Bad]

My biggest complaint about The Dark Knight is one that no one will agree with at first… but if you think about it after a while I think you’ll change your mind… at over 2.5 hours the movie was too long. Sorry, it just was. At about the 2 hour mark I was ready to call The Dark Knight the best film of the year so far… and maybe one of the top 5 movies of the last 3 or 4 years. Yeah… THAT GOOD. Now, I have to be careful here to not give any spoilers away… so if some of this doesn’t make sense to you… it will after you see the flick. After about the 2 hour mark, a major component of the story gets finished… and it was the PERFECT time to stop the movie and be wide open to the next film. PERFECT. But instead Nolan felt the need to tell ANOTHER part to the story in this same movie… that was a big mistake in my opinion. All that energy, perfect pacing and focus that the movie had for the first 120 minutes got lost. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that the last 30-40 minutes were bad… they just weren’t right for this movie. Something significant happens near the end (I can’t say what) that I believe was a total waste, and ultimately made the last 30 minutes a waste of time.

Scarecrow was WASTED… and I don’t mean he was on drugs. He’s on screen for about 30 seconds, then gone. Wheee… thanks for coming out. This may sound like a little bit of a spoiler, but it’s so irrelevant to the movie that it really doesn’t matter. Scarecrow isn’t even taken down like a true super villain. No no no… he gets taken down during a routine bust really. There was no need for Scarecrow to be used in that capacity… you could have had the same scene and had it be just another thug and it would have been exactly the same. Such a waste

OVERALL

This is a fantastic movie! Yes it’s too long, yes one or two of the characters are wasted… but aside from that it is a wonderfully told, MAGNIFICENTLY acted and beautifully shot comic book movie that ranks amongst one of the best films (not just comic book films) of the year so far. Not just a great comic movie… it is a great movie period.

I give the movie a 7.5/10

[align=center]I give myself teh name

.Duff.Man.

I review teh movie

Pink Panther 2

I reviewed it below

The movie had big shoes too fill after the hilarious first movies. I walked into the theater with HUGE expectation. And guess what? I walked out thinking I missed some major part. Yeah, sure there where about 10 absolute brilliant parts, but a large part of the movie was wasted trying to re-produce the first movie and it's plot.

In the first half-hour, the plot was becoming a titchy bit complicated for a comedy. By the end, I was like, 'Was that a comedy, or a mystery?' as they had given all the info, or so it seemed. I mean, it went on way too long, and the reason Cluseau solved it was stupid. Pure stupidity.

Enter romance. No, not the comedy 'It never works out' but a fairytale ending with aa pretty little kiss. Not only that, but throughout the movie, they just kinda threw together a bit of kisses and hugs.

And guess what? Half the actors sucked. Steve Martin was no where near as good as one might expect. His performance could have been a chimp, for all I care. true, there was some talent. His partner, what's his face was talented and so was the chief inspector whose it.

Enter the comedy aspect. And then it left. And then it came back. And then it left. This was pretty much the movie. A jerky ride, one might say. I was yawning, but that might have been because I was tired. The plot was largely re-used from the first one, and the comedy seemed to follow.

I will sentence this movie, instead of rate it.

[spoiler=the movie review]House bunny

A good movie to be said right now. But yuo might think "wow this is a porno" it is not and you can stop thinking that now. This is a movie about a playboy bunny who receives a letter from the owner Hes saying that she needs to leave the mansion immediately. She received this letter right after her 27th birthday. She leaves the mansion and stumbles into a collage campus and stops at the Beta sorority house. She talks to one of the house mothers and then she asks to become one. She is rejected. She then moves to the next sorority house the Zeta Alpha Zeta, whose members are socially awkward, although they reject her also, all except Natalie (Emma Stone), a virgin who tries her best to be the leader for the Zetas. They have but a few months to find 30 pledges, or a sorority of mean girls will take over their place. Shelley figures that girls will pledge a house that boys find interesting, so she sets out to make the Zetas alluring, not act too smart, and host great parties. AT the end she finds out that it was another girl from the playboy mansion who wrote the letter expelling her from the mansion. Half of the beta sorority girls end up joining the Z.A.Z. sorority.

Some nice applications so far. Oh and OMGAKITTY that is pure spam, don't do it again. I forgot to mention that after everyone has been decided upon it will be up to you all to decide on a review format amongst yourselves as a group and to post your review threads, and updating the main review thread accordingly. Oh and one last thing before I forget, the addition of a review group means yet another possible award to win in March.

You have been prewarned by this sentence' date=' this WILL spoil the movie.

Valkyrie

A movie directed by Bryan Singer and hitting theatres in late December 2008. Starring Tom Cruise, Kenneth Branagh, and Bill Nighy. Based on the very real plot to Kill Adolf Hitler and take over the German Government from the Nazi party, and end the war peacefully before Germany loses.

The real Plot to kill the dictator was one of over 10 documented coup attempts that ultimately failed miserably. Hitler lived until the Russian invasion of Berlin, where (suposedly) Hitler committed suicide.

The main character is Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg (Tom Cruise), a german officer who is fed up with the war. He allies himself with his uncle who is a prominent anti-nazi in the government. He is determined to take control of the government and set Germany in a straighter path away from war and destruction. Stauffenberg has many young children and a young wife. He was stationed in North Africa and lost his eye, one hand, and several fingers on the remaining one in a bombing raid by the Allies.

Stauffenberg soon learns of operation Valkyrie, the small army based in Berlin to subdue civil unrest or possibly protect Berlin in an invasion. He then learns that if he can change the Valkyrie force and trick it to help the coup and subdue all prominent SS (secret police) members and accuse them of trying to take over, that his rebel group has the chance to overthrow the government.

He creates a bomb, in which he hides in a briefcase. He meets with Hitler and other major nazi generals in a secret building. He then leaves and detonates the bomb, injuring Hitler and the other generals. Stauffenberg believes that Adolf Hitler is dead. He goes back to Berlin to engage the Valkyrie force. Vakyrie arrest and subdue the SS, who have been charged with attempting to kill Hitler and take over the government.

Hitler then makes a nation-wide radio announcement declaring that he is indeed alive and well. Then, the valkyrie force turns on Stauffenberg and the rebels, and arrests them. The SS then put the men on trial, and have them all excecuted.

The movie was suspensful, had alot of action, and was quite entertaining. One of the best Nazi movies that I have ever seen.

Plot - 9/10 [what true story like this doesn't have an interesting plot?

Acting - 8/10 [Convincing']

Entertainment Value - 10/10 [i really liked watching it. So good, you can watch it often and still not get bored.]

Quality - 7/10 [Good]

Total - 4.25/5

[Letter Rating - B]

You will find out who I've chosen when I've chosen 5 people, I've got 3 people already that I think I'm going to accept. But I'm waiting on people like Altair and Ruby, one of the selected 5 will be put in charge of the group and will essentially create the layout of reviews, unless you all want to work on one together.

[spoiler=Review]

Plot:-

The movie revolves around two firefighters, Chuck (Adam Sandler) and Larry (Kevin James), who are very close friends with a big list of differences. Chuck is a play-boy who seems to get every girl he wants while Larry is a single parent taking care of his girly son and boyish daughter after his wife dies. Larry saves Chuck's life on one day and Chuck tell's him he'll do anything to pay him back. Larry who forgot to switch the beneficiary pension money from his wife's to his children's account now has to marry someone in order for that to happen. After a long discussion he forces Chuck to "marry" him. They then are harassed by Clinton Fitzer (Steve Buscemi) who has been sent to investigate the legitimacy of the partnership. They then hire Alex (Jessica Biel) who helps them make sure their partnership appear legitimate but Chuck falls in love with her.

But is it good?

Yes. The movie is extremely unique from the terms of plot. It's well written, humorous and certainly entertaining. The effort shown by Adam Sandler and Kevin James is quite visible. The movie has a lot funny moments, jokes and interesting scene's that don't leave time for you to get bored of watching. Sure the movie may not be suitable for all ages but it really is a movie that's worth calling your friends over or perhaps older members of the family, just gather around and laugh. It may be a bit old now but if you haven't watched it then you probably should go out and rent it or even buy it.
