Survival of the Fiitest - what happens when I get bored

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. SaTuRnPaLaDiN here to show a card for you to rate/hate/comment. I was bored earlier today and grabbed a random card from my desk. The card I grabbed was Painful Choice. Now, we all know this card is banned because it's easily abused. However, I got an idea on how it could be balanced. Why not make it work only on monsters and sends each card somewhere else - like a card from Magic: The Gathering does? (BTW, the card in question is 'Three Dreams' from the Ravnica set) Working with that, I came up with a balanced version of Painful Choice. Without further ado:

CARD EFFECT

Select 5 Monster Cards from your Deck and show them to your opponent. Your opponent must assign each card a number from 1-5. The first card selected is removed from play. The second card selected is sent to the Graveyard. The third card selected is placed on top of your Deck. The fourth card selected is added to your hand. The fifth card selected is Special Summoned to your field.

Lemme know whatcha think and how you might use/abuse/destroy this card. Just don't flame or spam, okay?

There's "a lot of potential" for this card, I guess, but it doesn't really make this card balanced, it just seems "better" than Painful Choice because Painful Choice loads up your Graveyard and your hand essentially putting you way farther ahead than you were before. This offers a lot more advantage than just another card in your hand.

Looking strictly at the comparison, this card nets you a lot MORE advantage than Painful Choice. You get a card back in your hand, a guaranteed draw for next turn, and a free Special Summon. Then one for your Graveyard and one for your removed from play zone (where their usefulness normally ends). I see that as a little bit more broken than Painful Choice, to be honest.

Picking a single card and using 3 copies of a good monster would, at worst, force your opponent to remove 1 copy from play, send 1 copy to the Graveyard, and put the 3rd copy on top of your Deck so you can draw it next turn. Then you're essentially free to pick 2 other monsters that aren't as menacing but can still hurt the opponent while they were forced to deal with where your 3-copy monster was headed.

I really don't like this, and it's far easier to abuse than a lot of people are giving credit for. >_>

6/10.
