Anyway, i've been thinking of making this contest not just to obtain fresh and interesting ideas for characters/decks (mine being perhaps a tad generic...) but also for publicity (probably shouldn't have said that...), and with the end of volume one, I figured now would probably be the best time.

But before you know the character, you of course need to know the setting. Check out Volume One (have yet to think of a name) of my fanfic "Sideline Preparation". to see most of it, but here is a rundown, including things that haven't been explained as of yet.

Basically, it is centered around Duel Academy. Duel Academy has been attacked on two fronts. The Shadow Duelists and the Orichalcos duelists. None of the students know why, and the lower minions of the other factions do not know either. But the main reasons are these: the shadow duelists are an organization built after the Rare-Hunters downfall. Some shadow duelists realized that lone dogs and petty gangs were nothing more then a hindrance to the world, while together they could do so much more. Now this group is attacking Duel Academy due to the detection of a large 'pool' of shadow energy, nestled underground and slowly leaking. They wish to find out a way to obtain it, and perhaps why it is there.

 

The Orichalcos duelists are remnants of Doma, still believing the world is to be purified and they yearn to 'free' master Dartz and have him lead them once more (they don't quite know what happened at Dartz's death). They have discovered that someone at Duel academy has a great power of the Orichalcos, and due to their lack of it (none of them were high up, and as such were given limited resources) they are desperate to get their hands on it. Where or who has the energy was unknown, but it has recently been found out to be in possession of a person who calls himself the 'fourth musketeer' of Doma, and is using it to help enhance the power of Doma, although they are still a mere remnant of what they once were. Considering the many years that have gone by since the previous Doma incident, many people doubt this is true however.

 

There is a fourth faction there... But I'm hush-hush on that, so don't bother :).

 

Both Doma and the Shadow Duelists are hostile to one another, and have both sealed the island. The shadow duelists with a dome of shadow, the Orichalcos duelists with a seal similar to the one used in their duels.

 

However there are some remnants of Duel Academy around. They are holed up in the main building, and are fiercely defending it from either invaders. Some 'Good' shadow wielders are among them, able to assist as well as being extra help defending from the 'monsters' summoned from shadow and Orichalcos energy not to duel, but to slaughter.

 

 

 

Please note your character is will probably appear in Volume 2, which has a difference of somewhere between a week to a month, so the 'siege' has been going on for a decent while.

Duels are the most common used by all sides though. The remaining Duel Academy students because it is where they stand the most of a chance, the shadow and Orichalcos because it is much easier to harvest souls that way...

 

Even the normal students, due to the strange twisting of Orichalcos and shadow energy, have been developing abilities and gaining duel spirits.

 

The Orichalcos Duelists: Control the Abandon Dorm and Obelisk Blue Girl and Boy Dorm, as well as 'Lab'.

 

The Shadow Duelists: Control Ra Yellow, Beach, Slifer Red, and the cliff side near Slifer Red.

 

Remnants of Duel Academy: Control the central building.

 

Contested Territory: The forest, and the volcano.

 

The contest is to create a character, and a deck for that character. the character is allowed to wield a weapon, as there are creatures who don't 'duel', but tear you to shreds. Or you can leave a weapon out, and hope I feel like giving your character a crowning moment by defeating monsters with their bare hands :). Shadow and Orichalcos wielders do usually have enhanced physical abilities, as well as supernatural abilities (Shadow duelists can summon a barrier to prevent people from escaping, both shadow and Orichalcos can summon real monsters as well as telekinetic abilities etc. Even the normal students, due to the strange twisting of Orichalcos and shadow energy in the area, have been developing abilities and gaining a duel spirit.

 

The Deck is very important, at LEAST 8 cards of it must be custom and made by you (including effects), prefferably more. the cards can be written, but must have a description for the image.

 

You CAN put in more then one character. BUT only one of them can actually become 1st, 2nd or 3rd.

 

The prizes are pretty basic.

 

1st place: 3 reps, character in fanfic

2nd place: 2 reps and character in fanfic

3rd place: 1 rep and character in fanfic

 

Please note, if I'm still interested in a character who didn't win, I may ask if i can use them anyway. Yeah, I'm like that.

 

It is 50% for characters, 50% for deck (mainly decided by custom cards though). OCG isn't too important a factor. As long as I can understand WHAT they do, and what they do isn't overpowered, I'm fine with them.

Personality: Cheerful young person, that easily loses confidence for himself. Dueling makes him happy even though he's graded Slifer Red.

George doesn't have many friends,one reason to be the weird and wicked scary pictures he draws most of the time in class (later represented as monsters in his Horror Deck).

Bio: Born from a very poor family, he never payed attention in class when a child, and waited for recess during the day so he could play Duel Monsters with his classmates. One day, when he got home from school, he found his parents without souls, dead. They had battled with the Orichalcos, and Morekk knew that when he had found their Orichalcos soul cards. From that Moment on, he swore revenge on the Orichalcos. He took off, with nothing but his deck and the clothes on his back. One night, Shadow Duelists found him asleep on the street. They took him to their hideout, where he woke up the next day. The Shadow duelists took him to their leader, Louk, where he asked him questions. When Morrek Revealed the death of his parents from the Orichalcos, Louk said if Morrek were to join them, he would release the souls of his parents from the cards and back into their bodies. Morekk swore allegiance to the Shadows, where he stayed for most of his life so far. During the attack on the Duel Academy, Morekk started realizing that the the Shadow Duelists were evil and not the way to go, but he keeps trying to shake away those thoughts, and to "return to his senses."

Bio: Born from highly intellectual astrologists, Joe knows his way around space. He has been fascinated in the alien race. Throughout school, he has been the top scholar amongst others, but still seeks knowledge. After learning about the Duel Academy, he researches about each aspect of the living, including details about the duelists, teachers, and the terrain. After sending in his application, he was quickly admitted to the Duel Academy. As a young aspiring scientists, Joe developed state of the art device, called "Phantom Wings", which he can strap to his back and fly to any location. Bio: When gavin was 13 he was coming home from watching his favorite team(blue hawks) play when him and his father witnessed a murder take place committed by 1 of the towns most feared crime bosses his father was supposed to testify but the bosses gang threw a petrol bomb in his window causing his scar and resulting in the death of his father. Him and his mother moved in with his grandmother, but his mother blamed him for the death of his father, he eventually got kicked out by his mother after a year or 2 and went to live with his uncle his fathers brother mike, where he learned how to be happy again and found the game duel monsters, and his uncle treated him to a 17th birthday present of a scholership to duel academy he has been here since start of the year..

Personality: He is cheerful and energetic, but when he duels, he gets serious. He dislikes being called a n00b just because he is a Slifer. He never says no to a challenge.

Appearance: Brown and messy hair, green eyes, tall, always wears his amulet.

Duel Spirit Personality : Loyal, it can talk to Markus and it knows what Markus is thinking. It can also see the Duel Spirit of the other duelist.

Bio: He has traveled the world looking for a place to be better at Dueling...and he has found the Duel Academy. He has an amulet given by his father with his deck before he died.

Age 16

Sex:Girl

Personality: a hot blooded prodigy duelist who looks down on everyone. She only respects those who beat her in a duel. She has dueled some of the best duelists in the world in tournamonts and she is looking for a challenge therefore enrolling in duel academy. She has a short temper and a somewhat cocky attitude.

Appearance: silver hair down to her shoulders. Pinkish-red eyes. Pink suit coat with a red bow tie. Blue dress. Red shoes.

Allegiance:duel academy

Deck:Trinity(if you want all of the trinity cards, just pm me and I will give you the whole set.)

DARK Level 9 (Fiend/effect)

This card cannot be special summoned. When this card is summoned, remove from play up to 2 cards in your cards in your graveyard. Based on the type of cards removed, apply the appropiate effect: Monster:destroy all monsters on the field, except this card by paying 500 lifepoints. Spell: destroy all spell and trap cards on the field by paying 500 lifepoints. Trap:both players discard 2 cards in their hand by paying 500 lifepoints.

Gender: Male

Age: 15

Personality: Calm and cool. Though, usually a little irratated, he tries to hide it. He hates working with other people and can't stand people shouting.

Deck: Distortion

Trump Card: Adeumentou, Distortion Destroyer (Can I PM it?)

Duel Spirit (If Any): Donjire, Distortion Master

Duel Spirit Personality (If Any): Wise and twisted, he is as uncooperative with other people except Sho.

Bio: As a young boy, Sho showed great interest in dueling. And distorted the minds of innocent people. His parents were worried when all of his tactics, intelligence and Metal Working surpassed even the gratest minds, but his Level of cooperation was a whopping 0. When he was young he had only 1 friend, and he can't even remember what gender his friends was. As he grew he became twisted and created a deck to show that. He also modified the Duel Disk his father had given him to become less formal, in fact, it has the symbol for infinity right in the middle. He was sent to Duel Academy to become less twisted and more cooperative. Sho has cold, menacing eyes. His pupils turn grey and he has developed a way to get into a suit that the card Infinity Dark has. He also has an infinity sign on his back that burns grey.[/color]

Name: Aurax Nimb (proounced Or-ax Nim)

 

Gender: Male

 

Age: 17

 

Personality: He likes to duel, but only if the stakes are serious. At any other time he will be destroying society with his aura powers (similar to what Lucario has). That's his revenge for being rejected by society. He doesn't care what he destroys, as long as society itself is destroyed in the process. More info in the bio.

 

Allegiance: Shadow

 

Appearance: He has blue hair, blue eyes, and a blue aura surrounding him. He also wears a blue cloak and an Obelisk Blue Academy Disk. Sometimes he sneaks into the duel academy. In these situations, he has his Obelisk Blue duel disk, an Obelisk Blue outfit, and special blue gloves that shut down his aura. This is to blend into the crowd and get information.

 

Deck: Aura (here is the description for what each monster looks like:

Aura Axe-Wielder: kind of like a Gene-Warped Warwolf with an Axe and a brown aura.

Aura Hawk: Hawk with green aura

Aura Nightwing: basic design of a Black Feather monster, but with black aura

Aura Pyromaniac: imagine Flame Manipulator, but with red aura. Kinda like that.

Aura Thunderball: kinda like Mega Thunderball, but with yellow color scheme and yellow aura.

Aura Jackal: has striking resemblance to Lucario

Aura Shark: shark with blue aura

Aura Stone-Wing: Think back to Black Feather design, but with wings made of stones and brown aura

Aura Snake: snake with brown aura

Auramancer: like Chaos Sorcerer, but more kid sized

Aura Knight: armor built like Masked Knight LV7, but no mask and white aura. He also gains the aura colors of the other "Aura" monsters you control.

Transcendent Aura Dragon: looks like a bright white dragon that has arms in addition to wings and has a rainbow-colored aura.)

That isn't really a deck, but an archetype. Feel free to build the deck however you want. I personally don't like using decklists in fan-fics. Add staples and stuff, but be sure the main idea is Aura. Also, be sure the deck has 3 Upstart Goblins in it.

 

Trump card: Aura Jackal. His Transcendent Aura Dragon, though, is also very special to him.

 

Duel Spirit: Aura Jackal

 

Duel Spirit Personality: He doesn't really believe that Aurax is doing the right thing and will always advise doing something else. Aura Jackal wants Aurax to duel more because Aura Jackal likes being on the battlefield.

 

Bio: Aurax is "gifted" with the power of Aura. He can shoot Aura blasts from his hands and other such. He can also absorb other peoples' energy to power up his Aura. He was rejected from society and didn't have anywhere to go, until he was given an invitation to join the Shadow Riders. Aurax spent many years building his Aura Sword, a sword that gets more powerful with his will to live. It is now completed and Aurax couldn't be more pleased. He hopes to gain some of the powers of the darkness. Aurax doesn't mind having a duel spirit. He likes having the extra company all the time.

Name: Arashi Toriyama

Gender: Male

Age: 15

Personality: Arashi is a very outgoing guy, he gets competitive when it comes to dueling and he'll never back down from a challenge. Besides his headstrong take no prisoners like attitude, he does have a soft side to him. He can also be very romantic at times and he doesn't even notices his romantic side that is why so many girls fall heads over heels for him, but he doesn't even know that side of him. Arashi is also very comedic, he can make hilarious slurs and plays jokes on his friends and even insult his opponents which makes bystanders laugh at his comments. But when there is a sad moment in Arashi's life, he can become emotionally hurt and sometimes it takes weeks or maybe months for him to get over a sad moment in his life,

Allegiance: The Duel Academy

Appearance: Arashi is about 5'5", he has long shear black hair that is tied back and has one bang hanging from the front of his forehead, he likes to call the bang his "Good Luck Charm" because usually when he starts a Duel he usually blows it with his breath and says "OH YOU'RE GOING DOWN NOW!!!" He has a very slender looking body type but he does workout and he's very ripped for a kid his age, and when he usually begins a duel he would put on sunglasses and ties a bandanna around his neck and then insults his opponent and he would begin the duel. For his attire, he wears a hoody plaided with straps that are unbuckled and he wears a leather black shirt that say "Duel Monkey" on it and the shirt was custom made by him, he wears dark blue jeans that are also plaided with unbuckled straps and he wears chains at the bottom edges of his jeans.

Duel Spirit Personality (If Any): Very Stern, sometimes naive and unintentionally comedic, they either talk to Arashi when he's being too cocky, in his dreams, when he's thinking in a Duel, when he's in a tough spot in a Duel or situation, or when he's knocked completely out cold.

Bio: Arashi ever since he was eight years old looked up to two of the best Duelists in the world, the two duelists he always looked up to was Zane Truesdale and Seto Kaiba, he has aspirations one day of meeting one of them and beating one of them to an official duel. Arashi was born in New Domino City being borned by his mother: Asuya Toriyama and his father: Nagi Toriyama. Asuya works for the city of New Domino while Arashi's father helps with sales in Kaiba Corporation. When he was old enough, his parents would send him to The Duel Academy so he could hone his skills in becoming a great duelist, after three months of staying in the Duel Academy, he found out that his parents died in an business airplane accident, after hearing this Arashi was in an emotional wreck, but with his Duel Academy cohorts by his side to support him, he cheered up and made a vow to himself that he would be strong and become a great duelist for the memory of his parents. Ever since his parent's death, many strange and dangerous things started to happen to Arashi, accidents and mishaps starting to occur to the young teenager and wondered why. One day when Arashi was at his dorm by himself, he grabbed his deck and his backpack and was going to leave his dorm and then all of the sudden, his room exploded, terrified Arashi looked in awe at just what happened. Two weeks later, a huge man that looked like he was working for an agency appeared to Arashi, this man is named Bo Gardner and he was an agent protecting the prospects of the Toriyama Fortune, he explained to Arashi that after his parent's death, many global corporation giants are after the Toriyama Fortune that Arashi coincidentally inherited and these Corporate Giants are after his inheritance, but in order for them to get it, the only suriviving member of the Toriyama Family must be deceased and so these corporate leaders went after Arashi. Bo explained to Arashi that there are at least 20 secret assassins implanted here in the Duel Academy by the Corporations and he explained to Arashi that he was there to caution him, he'll be sending two high octave operatives to help him and protect him from these assasssins. Right after the thirty minute breifing from Mr. Gardner, a helicopter came by to escort him out of the Duel Academy Island, just right when the helicopter was taking flight, Arashi noticed a blinking device on one of the legs of the helicopter and yelled at Bo to get out of the helicopter but it was too late, the helicopter detonated and Arashi was down to his knees crying his heart out. Ever since that faithful day, every night when he goes to bed, he would hear voices in his head and this is the first time that he encountered his Duel Spirits: The Titans. Arashi thought he was going crazy but the titans explained to him that they were there to help and support him and they explained that Arashi needed to be strong and find his destiny in dueling. Ever since the encounter, he now knows his purpose in life, to survive and be the best duelist as he can be.

Due to his happy go lucky attitude he gained alot of friends, who helped him construct his new deck, which included a surprise, a Spirit Monster. With his new deck he passed the Duel Academy entrance exam placing him in Ra Yellow. When the students began gaining powers and things went haywire, he stuck with the Duel Academy group.

Submitting for this contest now! Hope I'm not too late: I regurgitated these cards and character from an earlier contest from last year (a contest that is still unfinished. lol). This was when we didn't have to credit images, so don't get mad if there isn't any creditting for images. I cna't possibly go back one year and find all them. It's just not possible.

 

 

 

Name: Nami Suzuki

Gender: Female

 

Personality: Nami isn't exactly a girly girl. She is a bit of a feminist and a tomboy, always willing to prove that girls can do whatever boys do. Nami isn't afraid to voice her opinions, and Nami adopts a "hands-on" and straightfoward approach in whatever she does. Unlike many girls her age, Nami is fiercely independent, sarcastic, direct, brutally frank, and confrontational. Nami does like adventure and fun, but she is always eager to fight, taking great pride in able to give "idiots who underestimate me an ass-whipping session". Nami is brutally honest when criticizing others. She is vocal about her opinions on others regardless of statures or age. Nami can be a bit stubborn and unyielding at times, but she is suprisingly understanding and warm when she wants to me. Due to being an only child in a rich hotel tycoon family, her parents treated her like a porcelain doll, resulting in Nami's eagerness to prove that she can be independent. Thanks to her time as a fierce worthy competitor in various Duelling competitions before entering the Duel Academy, Nami is adept in verbally taunting and insulting her opponents, and on occasion her friends. Nami has a particular penchant for sarcasm, particularly when someone states something obvious. She is particularly sensitive about her lack of chest and her short stature, something which often gets her mistaken for someone in her pre-teens/early teens. Inside this hardened exterior, though, Nami hides the fact that she is insecure about her appearance, and her greatest fear is to useless to the people around her, a deadweight. However, despite her many quirks, Nami has shown that she is a quick learner, and her courage and loyalty to her friends seems very stable. Nami values loyalty and friendship over everything, and although it is sometimes hard for to make friends, she is fiercely loyal to them, even to the end.

Appearance: Nami is a slim sixteen year old, even though she really was never a participator in any athletic activities while she was living in Domino City. The only kind of sport she ever participated in was swimming. She loved it with a passion, and is adpt at it, as she practiced any time she could. Because of this, she has a streamlined body. But Nami lacks very much in the "chest" department and the height department, being around as tall and heavy as an average fourteen year old girl, making others often mistaking her for someone who is in her preteens/early teens. She was picked on by the people around her in her younger teenage years for being short. Nami is usually wearing a light blue shirt with her name sewed on it on the pocket area. Over that, she also has a blue denim jacket that she leaves unbuttoned. Along with that, her jeans lay perfectly on her because of her slim figure. The jeans have a blue ocean levia-dragon design along the right leg pant, the mystical creature almost looking as if it were alive. She has greenish cerulean eyes that glistens liks gems of the sea, befitting for someone who loves swimming so much. Nami also dons a small blue hair clip in her shoulder-length light reddish brown hair, along with a pair of large aqua-themed ski googles on the area just above her forehead, as a fashion statement. Also because Nami is a returning student of the Duel Academy, she is also required to wear the Obelisk Blue attire. Originally, she was an Osiris Ra, but was recognized for her duel abilities and was bumped up to Obelisk Blue near the end of her school year. Her hard work had finally paid off when Nami steadily moved up the Duel Academy ranks to become one of the top students of the Academy, something she wanted to do for some time.

Duel Spirit Personality (If Any): Since Nami had only very recently developped a Duel Spirit, Analyr's personality is unknown.

 

Bio: Nami never liked her parents. They treated her like some china doll, another precious gem in their innumerable jewel-stone collection. Most people would have contented with being fussed over by a pair of rich, loaded, "Old money" hotel tycoons. But Nami compared it to being smothered to death with a pillow and a nice stack of velvet cushions. So, after being fed-up with the umpteenth dinner party she had to attend, passing around vaselins of smiles like a trophy daughter, Nami took up a new avenue to vent her emotional and psychological issues - swimming.

 

Nami loved the water and thrived in it. She learnt to wake up an hour earlier than the sun, just so she could fit in another handful of minutes of her timetable into her morning swim. She became so avidly enthralled with swimming and water that she became a highly developped swimmer with a prowess of her own right. However, after gauging the true number of hours Nami spent at the pool every day, her parents feared (irrationally) that she might one day drown in the pool. So, they hired a team of bodyguards to swim with her and monitor her every kick and underwater thrust, lest she drowned.

 

This had an effect akin to pulling the plug out of a bathtub full of soapy water. Nami soon lost grew exasperated with her parents' paranoia and the bodyguards flocking around her as if she didn't know lungs were aquatically equip. The hotel heiress, now more determined than ever to assert her rebellion and independence, decided to upset her parents by taking up duelling. She knew very well how much her parents despised duelling - and how very little they could do to stop her froming competiting in Duel Compositions. Their hotel chains were sponsors to International Duel Leagues, so to deprive their daughter from Duelling would make them look like hypocrites, which would be the killing kiss to the hotels' public persona. They had to let her duel, although very begrudgingly.

 

As expected, Nami utilised an ocean and water-based Deck, referring to her love for the water. With this Deck, she became a skilled enough Duellist to be recognised by a handful of competitions, which was enough to land her an invitation from the Academy. Knowing that Sato Suzuki and Sakura Miyamura would disapprove, Nami accepted.

 

By the time the Academy was ravaged by the Orichalchos, Nami was in Obelisk Blue and well-established as a Duellist. In a twist of fate, she somehow avoided becoming affiliated with the Orichalchos or the Shadow Duellists, like many of her peers had been. This may have been because Nami believed that individuality and the right of the individual was the one thing that cannot be violated, and the interdepence of a person is sacrosanct. Violating these, like the Orichalcos did, equated to a crime worse than rape in her mind...

 

 

 

In third place, with the somewhat odd deck theme and rather interesting character, we have Kastor with 79/100

 

In second place, a nicely descriptive character and while an incomplete deck, still seems rather nice. We have cAde2009 at 81/100 points.

 

Aaand in first place, with 82/100 points, with a brilliant character making up for the (still decent, but somewhat lacking in number of custom) cards. Tarnished.

Personality: Cheerful young person, that easily loses confidence for himself. Dueling makes him happy even though he's graded Slifer Red.

Bio: Born from a very poor family, he never payed attention in class when a child, and waited for recess during the day so he could play Duel Monsters with his classmates. One day, when he got home from school, he found his parents without souls, dead. They had battled with the Orichalcos, and Morekk knew that when he had found their Orichalcos soul cards. From that Moment on, he swore revenge on the Orichalcos. He took off, with nothing but his deck and the clothes on his back. One night, Shadow Duelists found him asleep on the street. They took him to their hideout, where he woke up the next day. The Shadow duelists took him to their leader, Louk, where he asked him questions. When Morrek Revealed the death of his parents from the Orichalcos, Louk said if Morrek were to join them, he would release the souls of his parents from the cards and back into their bodies. Morekk swore allegiance to the Shadows, where he stayed for most of his life so far. During the attack on the Duel Academy, Morekk started realizing that the the Shadow Duelists were evil and not the way to go, but he keeps trying to shake away those thoughts, and to "return to his senses."

Well, I'll definitely need to see these Trinity cards goldenboy820... But if you want them a bit more confidential, I suppose PMing them is fine.

 

An avatar for the character is fine, and it looks nice.

 

Hmm... No-one likes the Orichalcos LOL? No-one trying for them so far.

 

Aahh well, it's looking fine so far. Still, more entrants would be nice...
