6 steps to improving new members

These are six points in order to kill noobs and make them into valued members of the site. Sitting around b*****ing about how much they annoy you obviously isn't working.

-Encourage the posting of detailed comments. One of the biggest complaints about new members is the simplicity of their comments. Instead of saying "Nice pix!!!!" or "Nice card 10/10" post longer more details comments like "I love this picture, especially the way you drew the facial features" or even criticisim "This card is ok, but the OCG looks slightly off. Maybe next time you should try..." Even if just you and older members of the site do this, new members will see this is the standard and most will try to mimic it.

-Don't flame other members. You want your community to flourish, and flamming others just drives people away. Useful and polite criticism is one thing, flamming is another.

-Promote grammar in post. Using small things like lol, :) , and whatnot is fine, but how many times have you had to see posts like "Dat wuz sum nice pix" or "Wut u meen I has kno grammar?" Try to keep English as English and post things that are legible.

-If you see a struggling new member help them. This lets them learn the ways and standards you want to hold your site up to. Don't flame them and call them an idiot, instead lend a helping hand, even if it's replying to their comment by saying "Next time please use better grammar."

-Welcoming new members. This may sound dumb, but if you welcome them you're also planting them seeds of friendship. Now they feel a part of the site and want to hold it to the same level of standards as you.

And if they ignore you completely?

Then screw them lol. You tried at least, and when they keep getting hostility directed their way then they can only blame themselves.

A noob is still a n00b as well as a newb :) Just because you try and change the spelling to cope with stupidity doesn't make being stupid right :)

I don't even know what you just said. -_____-

and n00bs aren't necessarily new to the forum. They just happen to be idiots. Thankfully, most noobs get themselves banned quickly enough.

newb = newbie = new member

n00b = idiot douchebag.

You can ignore them too, can't you?

There is no difference :) Just some minor spelling

There's a huge difference. A newb can be intelligent' date=' and can usually learn.

n00bs are complete idiots, and never learn.

This.

You learn this especially in online MMO's.

Newbs, are the good ones.

n00bs are the ones who can't learn. Not won't.

Newbies are the people who look like they do want to belong on the Forum and learn from the Vets.

n00bs are people that usually join just to annoy people or never EVER read the rules.

That is why I have the link to the rules in my Signature.

This is a good tut. Great job! It makes total sense.
