HORUS
http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/04/01/cigarette.tax/index.html I lol'd so hard when I read the title of this article. Seriously? You're constantly and consciously inserting a cancerous agent into your body without relent, causing severe respiratory and brain systems damage to yourself, and you consider a tax on that which you abuse yourself with to be the real abuse? Seriously? "They're picking on smokers." Suck it up. 'OH sheet!! I HAVE TO PAY MORE IN ORDER TO SLOWLY KILL MYSELF THROUGH YEARS OF SELF-INFLICTED ATROPHY!!! THIS SUCKS!!! sheet!!!' lol. Your complaining about how "bad" your being treated, but, it's people like you who give babies asthma? Riight.. makes total sense.

Jericho
Umm. No... I loose the right to complain about anything that happens to my health caused by smoking. Well, I don't really loose the right to complain. My statements just loose validity.

Saturn of Elemia
Simple solution - Invest in ELECTRIC CIGARETTES!!! No tax on them, they don't give off secondhand smoke (since it's a vapor you're inhailing, but it still gives you the nicotine), they last much longer, they're rechargeable, one cartridge is equal to an entire pack of cigarettes, and they're a hell of a lot cheaper in the long run (by buying refill cartridges) [/topic]
Guest JoshIcy
^: Disgusting Win... I'd neg you if I could. And good for the smokers. As long as they aren't physically harmed, and just smoking. I wanna watch them writhe as lung cancer hits them. It's morbid, and punishable by a slow death.
Sander
Basically, smokers should stick that cigarette up their anus. So they choose to kill themselves slowly, but really, they are killing other people with smoking too...
QueenIsAGreatBand
Lol, well it will definitely keep non-smokers from smoking! :3But I also feel I have some sympathy for the smokers as well. If you smoke and get hooked, there's really not that many ways out of it. You need cigarettes. You grow insane without it, possibly dying earlier than if you smoked regularly. Drugs are scary... :/So I hope you understand that I don't think smokes are good! :

HelioSpark
Yay! Now they have to pay more to kll themselves and everyone around them with their disgusting second-hand smoke! Also, smokers should have to pay more. Why? Because they end up putting a huge, absolutely unecessary burden on the health care system, and they make other taxpayers pay for their mistakes :D
Guest Star
Maybe people should stop wasting their money on cigarettes and use it to pay for their families. Just an idea, though.

It should in no way cover self inflicted, intentional injury or disease such as lung cancer (unless its second hand smoke or another cause), or suicide attempts. Akira
If one is stupid enough to start smoking, they have no right to complain when life becomes more difficult for them. They should see this as a gift from god, as they are being given all the more reason to quit.

Amethyst Phoenix
Raising the price is a brilliant solution to the smoking problem. A) It doesn't cause a prohibition effect like banning it would.B) People are less likely to start because of the monetary expense.C) People that are smoking are more likely to kick the habit due to costs.D) People that still smoke will lose LOTS of money to it, therefore limiting the activities of people who think it's actually a good idea to slowly kill yourself and possibly others. For example, due to the large costs of buying more and more tobacco products, they will have less money to buy gas, eat out, go to the movies, etc. This makes it so there are less smokers making our air noxious in public settings. The only smokers not significantly hindered by this are the wealthy. Since the number of middle class greatly outnumbers the rich, this is a negligible amount of consistent smoking in a public setting. Oh, and if any smokers here are thinking about going into a rant about how the government favors the rich over you and that it's not fair, I have the solution to your problem: Shut up, quit whining, go out and put in all the effort and hard work it requires to be that successful, and then you'll realize that it was probably harder for them to get where they are now then it is for you to spend more money on your cigarettes. And, no, I don't have some vendetta or crusade against smoking. I respect your right to decide to smoke (not your decision though, I don't respect slowly killing yourself via narcotics at all), however what I don't like, is when I have to breathe that disgusting smoke. Guest Star
Or some people will move to different countries where tabacco is cheaper. So? That would mean there is less tobacco for children and other people to have to deal with. This tax is a good idea because it will hopefully cause some people to stop buying cigarettes.
