Cin
Actually I remember the blue screen now. I got AVG into catch the trojan it came in on, after Norton rolled over and died, taking the Fire Wall with it, AVG ridded the trojan and it was sorted. I think for good measure I tried Nod32, Spyware Search and Destroy and AdAware.
Kizzi
Yeah' date=' Malware Bytes Anti-Malware is the best thing for viruses like this. Since that mainly covers malware it's worth downloading AVG Free as well. Trial version of Norton 360. That's all you need. You do know that Norton's one of the worst anti-virus companies out there' date=' right?[/quote'] 360 IS NICE, ACTUALLY. 360 IS AWFUL, ACTUALLY.CAPS ARE CRUISE CONTROL FOR COOL, BUT YOU'VE JUST LEFT THE WHEEL.YOU FORGOT A PERIOD YOU IMBECILE!YOU CAN'T STOP IF YOU CAN'T STEER

Second, Avast can actually miss things. Reinstalling the operating system would be stupid if a decent anti-virus program could fix the issue. Third, you don't need a CD that says Windows XP for Dell 1378. The OEM operating system recovery disks aren't always that good; getting a standard Windows XP installation disk would be a better bet. Fourth, it's a pretty simple matter of changing the BIOS settings so it boots from CD, and for everything else you get helpful little prompts. bury the year
Use Webroot. It catches a lot of stuff. :/ Anyways, did you get a popup that says something like, "Spyware has been detected on your computer!" and you can't close it or the window that opened it? If so, and you clicked on it, that's probably the source.
