JesusofChaos™
Right I was on the ferry today thinking about the 3 cm rise in sea levels and how we could fix it. Then I saw lots of large container ships and thought about how much water they displace and maybe by removing ships from the ocean we could fix the problem of rising sea levels. Approximatly 360,000,000 km of the world is covered by ocean. Now if we times this by 0.00003 km we get the volume of water added to the ocean. 360,000,000 km squared x 0.00003= 10,800 km cubed of water added If we take the Queen Mary 2's (large cruise ship) displacement=76,000 tonsNow we have to work out what volume of water that is for that we need the density of water and the weight we have. water density=997.0479 kg per m cubed one ton= 1000 kg weight of water displaced in kg= 76,000 x1000 = 76,000,000 kg Volume displaced= weight / density = 76,000,000 /997.0479 = 76225 m cubed = 0.000076225 km cubed Number of Queen Mary 2s needed to be taken out of the water to stop 3cm rise in oceans= 10,800 / 0.000076225 = 140,000,000 That’s 140 million I am a genius

Guest King of Games
Or the world could work to end global warming > less ice melting > less water> less raise in sea levelbut i 'spose ur plan could work too :S
JesusofChaos™
The rise in temperature would also result in the expansion of water, not just the addition of water would raise sea levels

At the OP, this is well and good, but how are we supposed to transport goods. We can't use airplanes for every kind of shipment, and even airplanes have limites. Willieh
Wait, why don't we just kill all the fish in the sea? Surely their displacement plays a larger role than our ships.
Pikachu
You still failed. Less ships (or none) = no sea transport = More planes. More planes = More C02 produced than before (planes produce WAY more) = Twice the quickness of ice cap melting. Think again, sir.

Felix Culpa
Rising sea levels is not caused by ships displacing water. They've always been around. Try the polar ice caps. Refreeze them. [/sarcasm] I am a genius

And installing it on every single plane in the world.....wow, that would take at least 10 years, and a whole lot of machinery to make the engine (and that would cause global warming too). We managed to get to the moon, we managed to dig the Suez Canal. Nothing is impossible. Also only new planes need t be fitted with it and phase out the old ones
