Alexander²
So I would get 10 life sentences for murdering 5 people under the influence? Killing someone is a horendous deed. But that is another thread. But not 10-life sentances. More like x2 the regular punishment (my bad on last post).
Dweller of Parables
Drinking Age: 21 --> 16' date=' but with EXTREMELY harsh Drunk Driving laws. OR, [b']No Drinking Age Minimum, Technically, Whatever happens is the drinkers desicion, but if they commit crime under the influence of alchohal, the punishment should be increased 10-fold.[/b] So I would get 10 life sentences for murdering 5 people under the influence? wow...desicion?alchohal? XDAnyway:If someone has a life sentence, gosh...Pray death >_> It's so dull in the slammer.
Sparta™
I have an idea that works. Wine is obviously stronger than beer. So keep wine at 21. Turn beer into 18. Put a limit on the amount of beer one can drink. The limit becomes unlimited at 21. Does that make any sense? This.

I guess there could be a barcode on your license which monitors the amount of drinks you had that night (and when you replace your license at 21, the barcode dissapeers), so the waiter would know if you are allowed another drink. @ Tabris: Yes, because a two year-old drinking, getting drunk, and dying of alcohol poisoning is the best thing that can happen to America. Besides, if someone feels the need to drink and destroy their body, that should be their decision. So long as they aren't allowed to drive or do anything that might endanger people who are sober. Honestly, most underage drinking occurs because there is such a taboo around it. Stop making it such a big deal, and it won't be...such a big deal anymore :/
Dark
I still like my idea better. 18-year olds get their thrill of beer, in a limited quantity. When they turn 21, they get access to wine and unlimited beer.Parents are happy (somewhat). It's pretty much the middle point.

Static
Necrobump #44 Should be 18, so that I won't be breaking the law when I get trashed tonight :D
Dark
Necrobump #44 Should be 18' date=' so that I won't be breaking the law when I get trashed tonight :D[/quote'] I've broken this law many times. Stay clear of police officers and never drive yourself home. And if your parents are okay with it, make sure they know as well. I got wasted once, and my parents knew I would be drinking (but they didn't know how much), so they came to pick me up.

And because there is no way to ban it, alcohol will stay legal, whether it is a stupid idea or not. The thing we can change is the drinking age. Dark
Shooting someone can injure someone else. Drinking cannot injure someone else, unless you are drunk enough to injure someone else. That is why they have restrictions on drinking.
~/Coolio Prime\~
That is why they have restrictions on drinking."Restrictions" that are enforced more like loose guidelines that people ignore consistently. Innocent lives lost in alcohol-induced incidents are far to great for something like alcohol' date=' which [i']would[/i] be illegal or heavily heavily moderated had it been made around this time period, to go attended to. An age limit that only shows backwardness and barely enforced restrictions, not to mention constant sources of commercial pressure and relatively low punishment for drunk drivers has made alcohol a problem. Like my opinion on gun control, the restrictions depend on the times and circumstances we live in, and now is not a time to leave alcohol untouched. Dark
tl;dr Banning alcohol will not work. So I'd like to see you come up with a solution.
~/Coolio Prime\~
If you really don't think banning alcohol would work, I think some sort of drivers license-esque system would have some sort of positive impact. Screening, testing, and a bunch of briefing on alcohol before they're allowed to legally have any doesn't seem like a bad idea to me.
Dark
Or you can limit the amount of beer one can drink before a certain age.
