Ok, I am seeing waaaay too many Anti-smoking posts. Posts that bash smoking, yeah I can see that there are valid points in that but I've read posts that bash smokers themselves. That is discrimination and really offensive to people that do smoke. Who -enjoy- smoking. Though the cigarette tax is enough to scare -anyone- into giving up those fine sticks of tobacco..is there anyone that actually is PRO smoking and knows the plight of cigarette tax increase first hand?

That is discrimination and really offensive to people that do murder. Who -enjoy- murdering. Though the legal penalty is enough to scare -anyone- into giving up those fine gunshots toward civilians..is there anyone that actually is PRO murdering and knows the plight of manslaughter penalty increase first hand?

I don't care if people enjoy smoking. It's killing themselves and others, which they do not have the right to do. Don't complain if other people don't like the fact that smokers pollute the air with their filth. They chose to start smoking....and if they don't like the discrimination, then they should choose to stop. Don't ask anyone to be sympethetic towards smokers.

Preaching to the choir, Keros. Just because the 'kids' that responded so adversely don't know the value of a buck doesn't mean that the tax doesn't hit our wallets hard. I've successfully quit, well, that alone -forced- me into quiting. I was rather fond of my tobacco when I was able to afford it though.

I am not pro smoking, or against it, like abortion (this is gonna get quoted alot now), I think its a choice, and people are allowed to do what they want. If that means they want to shorten their lives, go ahead.

Also, if you don't like people smoking around you, either ask them nicely to leave, or WALK AWAY. You have legs.

Try walking away from second-hand smoke in the middle of a bussling city like NY or London.........owait, NOT POSSIBLE. There are simply too many smokers, seriously, they stand on every street corner. D:

It is possible to find an area with no smokers, even in NYC. There is a place close to you all the time thats a non smoker area.

 

Besides, what can you do? Ban smoking? Thats basicly like saying "Your religeon is wrong, ours is right"

That's not much of a "fix", considering that Keros can hardly be described as "The Power" (or even as "Da Powa").

 

You seem to be under the delusion that smokers act solely to their own detriment and that their actions have no effect on others. This is demonstrably false; secondhand smoke exists. I sincerely hope that you are not going to refute the assertion that secondhand smoke, as has been shown through scientific evidence, damages the well-being of non-smokers and can lead to anything up to and including death. Which, in turn, means that smokers kill others as well as themselves - hence the murderer analogy.

 

Of course, there are significant differences - smoking is more socially acceptable than slitting someone's throat, is slower and more painful, is legally permitted, and gives large amounts of funding to corporations that exist solely to promote and thrive on this widespread murder-suicide - but the end result is the same as serial murder: one person is being killed for the enjoyment of another.

 

I did not feel the need to go into detail regarding this, as I did not think anyone here was ignorant enough to not know about the existence of secondhand smoke, but after reading your post I must admit that I was mistaken in that regard. I guess you totally showed me.

 

Since the only argument you seem to make is "it's a personal choice", which is completely negated by the existence of secondhand smoke - incidentally, "just walk away if they're smoking" is not a magic solution for reasons that are beyond obvious - I must confess that I don't exactly see how I "fail". Granted, I could have been more polite about it, but if that's all you were complaining about, then perhaps the pot should examine itself more closely before it reproaches the kettle for being black - your own post relies on sarcasm, accuses me of failing, and calls me "unspeakably idiotic", and thus contains far more flaming than my original post ever did.

 

Incidentally, I believe that Super Moderators are indeed immune to warnings. It doesn't matter either way - I acted like this as a regular member, I was made a moderator because of that and continued to act like this, and I'm going to continue to inform idiots of their idiocy. Implying that I do this solely because I'm a Super Mod is like implying that Barack Obama speaks English solely because he's the U.S. President. (Incidentally, regular moderators can indeed be warned - but I don't see you giving yourself a warning for flaming.)

This is just ridiculous. People should not have to go live somewhere else just because their area contains smokers, int he same way that people should not have to go live somewhere else just because their area contains serial killers.

 

Comparing smoking to religion is ludicrous; I cannot recall the last time I read about somebody dying from secondhand Judaism.
