The deck can use any number of ways of fetching him out not restricted to Synthisis or anything like that at all. If you want to use him for hand cost around another deck that is accepted as well. (Though you get more style points for making lycanthrope the main monster, and using his effect to its full power. so even if you think your decks terrible that uses lycanthrope while others don't get him out you can still win.)
