Dismal Euphony
You know' date=' it seems really attention-seeking, making all of these religious threads. I would say just get over yourself, and stop trying to make a name for yourself by putting down religious people. There's nothing harmful to society that people would believe in a higher power, the harm only comes when those who don't refuse to mind their own business and force their ideas over other people. Just my two cents.[/quote'] We dun like ur 2centz roun' thes parts >.>

OMGAKITTY
Give me an example' date=' from the 20th century onward, where religion has been harmful to society.[/quote'] Meh, you ruined your post with this follow up. Before you said that the harm came from people who tried to impress their ideals onto others (which is actually what HORUS is trying to do here...kind of). I agreed with that. But now you've screwed yourself. Muslim extremists.

OMGAKITTY
Extremists are always harmful to society' date=' so to use an extremist group as a reasoning for why the more moderate religious people are harmful is stupid.[/quote'] You asked when any religion has harmed anyone post 20th century. Extremist religious groups are still religious groups. Also, persecution of gays?
Lemniscate
What persecution of gays? Never in my life have I seen anyone attack, insult, or in any way harm a homosexual person. Also, the religion itself isn't harmful, nowhere in the Bible does it teach the persecution of gays, nowhere does it teach to attach those we don't agree with. The problems that those who are against religion have are problems based not on the teachings of the religion, but the misinterpretation of the text by poorly taught religious people. You asked whenever has religion harmed. Misinterpreted, its still by religion. And just because you didn't see it means it must not exist. However, persecution of gays would have fallen under your first post's point, back when I actually agreed with you. :/
Lemniscate
Okay, if I write a book that says that monkeys are bad, and you decide to go kill a monkey, is the book evil, or is it just that a crazy person misinterpreted the point of a book?
OMGAKITTY
Books can't be evil. Give me an example' date=' from the 20th century onward, [b']where religion[/b] has been harmful to society. Do you see it? Where religion. If you created a religion that taught monkeys are bad, and someone killed a monkey based off of it, that would be religion hurting someone. It might not be what the original intent was, but it still happened in the name of that religion.
Lemniscate
All religions are books. Every religion in the world has sacred texts, that spell out the rules and stories and such of the religion. Also, how can a book not be evil, I would say Mein Kampf was pretty f***ed up. And again, if someone is a member of a group, and then goes and kills people in the name of that group, even though the rest of the group abhors killing, is the group evil?
