I saw this in Tkills sig & i thought it would make a good conversation. In my opinion it's not bad, I think it's like a calling card. An example is how all the athletes say "I'm goin to Disney orld". Any way give me your intake on this comment " Reps appreciated ".

What the hell is with all this " Reps appreciated " Why do you deserve a rep? All you did was make a banner or a card and post it. Why are you asking for reps for nothing. Is it because your rep hungry? Besides' date=' even if you have alot of reps doesnt change the fact that you still suck. :/

I think it is OK too. You just remind the others: "If you like my work, why don't you rep me?"

No. You post your work and you should post it for critique and to show it off not to try and raise your reps.

All of you, read this. All of the following is true. When people say " I'm going to disney world" They dont say" I'm going to Disney world, now give me tickets/money" Because that's how it is when people say " Reps appreciated"

First of all' date=' I'd like to say that I had half a mind of posting this in the games section, as it is primarily directed at newer members, and I figured that they might see more of the games section than this section. But then, I figured that if I had done that, I'd get far too many spam-posts from older members saying things like: "WRONG SECTION IDIOT" and thus I decided against it.

Anyways, I'd like to firstly say that we have many, many new members on this site. In fact, we are getting 36.1 new members each day. If you ask me, that's quite a few. But there is something these newbies need to know.

Now that we are done with the introductory statements and statistics, we can move on to the topic at hand. Rep Scamming. Some people call it Rep Scamming, others Rep Spamming. But it doesn't matter what you call it, it's the same thing. I myself call it Rep Scamming. And I feel something needs to be said about it.

Firstly, we need to define what exactly reps are. Some may think reps are just a number, some may think that it's something so important, that it guides their every action here on this site. Some think that it's so important, but are not willing to have it guide their actions.

The truth is, reps ARE just a number. But not like points. This number holds greater importance. This number dictates the kind of person you are. Now, before I talk about this, I'd like to list the numerous ways one can acquire reps:

1. Doing various good deeds around the site.

2. Being an overall good person.

3. Knowing a lot about the game, but only with the intent to help those who know less.

4. Placing in card contests.

Now, for me, I believe that over 90% of my reps are from card contests. That doesn't necessarily mean that I am a good person, it just means that some people find my cards worthy of winning a contest. That's all. It doesn't even mean that I am a good card maker. I get reps because of what I've done. It's as simple as that.

Now, on to dictation of person. If you have a negative total of your reps, generally there will be a negative connotation associated with you. If your rep total is above 0, then there may be a positive connotation associated with you.

If you really want to gain reps, here's something that you can do. [A proven method, I used this method when I first joined up, after we got the new cardmaker and whatnot'] You go around the site doing good deeds and the like, and you find someone with a certain amount of reps. [For starters, maybe 5] Then, you decide that whatever you do, you're going to try to get more [legit] reps than that person and you attempt to do so. Once you're past them, you do it again and again until you're at the top!

One of the things you can do to avoid a negative rep is to read all the stickied [important] threads in a section that you're posting in, so that you know what to do and what not to do. General forum knowledge applies here as well.

Now that we've discussed reps, let us move on to Rep Scamming. Some people think that Rep Scamming is when you make another account in order to boost the reps in your main account so that you accumulate such a large rep number, that it is impossible for others to keep up. This is true, but there are a number of other ways to be a rep scammer.

Here are some examples of scammed reps. I will not post who gave them and to whom they were given, but the nature of the rep.

1. “Thanks, you are one of the few to mention me in a post”

2. “u dont have a rep yet and u complomented my decks! Thanks”

3. “Now plz give me a +1 too :)”

4. “for making a offer”

5. “for being nice to me”

6. “awesome :) Thanks for the rep”

7. “thanks for not being mean”

8. “Heres a rep”

9. “More...need more reps.”

10. “i figured out its u! ~ZZ”

Now, allow me to analyze why these positive reps are Rep Scams.

1. Who cares if you’re mentioned in a post? It doesn’t matter. No one needs a rep for mentioning someone else in a post. PM them thanking them for the honorable mention.

2. First of all, if they don’t have a rep, it’s okay. You don’t need to scam them up to one. Second of all, thank them for the complement on the deck thread or by PM. Not via rep.

3. Wow. This is a definite rep scam. It’s a pretty obvious one, so I won’t go into detail.

4. If everyone had reps for making trade offers, each trader would be at 200 reps. You don’t need a rep for making an offer. You don’t.

5. It’s nice that you wanna thank them, but really, you can PM them. If they’re a good person to you, there’s a better way to do it: Say something like, “You’re a really nice person, especially to the newer members.” It’s not that big of a Rep Scam, but it is nonetheless.

6. This is like number three. If someone gives you a rep, you don’t need to rep them back. I’ve been in this dilemma before; someone gave me a rep and I felt compelled to rep them back. But I didn’t, because it’s a rep scam.

7. This is like number 5…

8. Free rep? Thanks! But you should earn your reps. You shouldn’t give reps just for the sake of giving reps or because you’re bored…

9. See 8.

10. ???????? It’s great that you know who the person is, but they don’t need a rep because of who they are!!! That’s what PMs are for!

Another thing to know is balancing. If someone gives a pointless negative rep, don't feel obligated to balance out the rep by giving them a positive rep saying: "To balance out the negative [username] gave you." There's a rep complaint thread for a reason. I'd personally have a "56" with no negatives, than with 57 positives and 1 negative.

Basically, the point of this thread was to teach you how to not be a Rep Scammer, and to make you a better person and have people like you as well. Remember, read the rules, abide by the rules, and you will get noticed. And in a good way. You don’t need to cheat your way to “repdom.” Thanks for reading, and I hope you got something out of this.

Reputation system was never this way "I show art you rep me" but since it's the common thing now I can't just go against it because I can't make a change as a member between more than 20,000 members or sth. BUT if it becomes against the rules soon I'll follow the rules.

Anyways, all my reps I've gained are from either my shop (really a few since they only rep me because of good work/fast job and I do that rarely xD) and my personality which now no1 gives me a rep on it. :( People think that reps now are like points... it wasn't the same before. Before, rep system was used when someone did something really good to another person, helped him, or for a shop (a rep was a high cost in shops), um also rarely for birthdays.. and if the person who got this rep is great.. and lastly contests.

But there wasn't "My graphics are good? Rep me!" and such new stuff. I hope it returns the same.
