Thus "common sense" (in this view) equates to the knowledge and experience which most people allegedly have, or which the person using the term believes that they do or should have.

Explain this to me. Won't two different people have two different views, therefore changing what they think common sense is?

Yes. Many people have differing views on what is and what isn't common sense. Common sense, at least the way I view it, comes from past experiences and the knowledge gained from those particular experiences.

For example, my cousin puts down carpet and flooring for a living. I used to work with him as a helper/partner. When I first started, I didn't know the first thing about laying down carpet and flooring, so naturally I would screw up and he would yell at me because what I screwed up was "common sense." For him, it was common sense because it's just something that he feels "needs to be known" where for me, it wasn't really common sense because it's something I've never experienced before.

I don't know if that's even remotely correct or logical, but that's just my view on it.

If common sense differs between people' date=' how can one tell another that he/she lacks common sense, when it's simply an interpretation?

Because common sense does not differ between people.

COMMON sense is that. Common to all.

Most of what you are probably thinking of is not part of common sense.

Wikipedia says differently.

Using Soror's example (kind of), imagine working in the White House. The President asks you to file XYZ papers, but you file ABC papers instead. He says you have no common sense.

To him, filing XYZ papers should be known by everyone, therefore it's common sense.

To you, filing XYZ papers is a foreign thing, therefore not common sense.

Fail. Wikipedia can be edited by any idiot on the internet. The chances of someone catching that is very slim.

In fact, Wikipedia states that common sense is something the person using the term believes should be known by all. Common sense is either shared by all, or is not common sense. For example, most people with brains will know to get into an area below ground when a tornado is in front of them. But if someone said "You cannot do this, which is common sense." then chances are that they are opinionating on what should be known by all.

Summary: Common Sense is a defined, general subject. There are certian things that everyone knows, and certian things everyone knows to avoid. It cannot be changed by simple human actions.

Common sense varieys between people... and can mean something different to all. But just remember, common sense is already stated. Humanity already knows simple things that fit into common sense. But in terms of belief humanity thinks that they have the right idea of common sense when listing their rules of common sense. Which are wrong.

So basically, what you're saying, is things that people THINK are common sense, usually aren't? For example, my story and the White House story?

Maybe it was scripted. They purposely gave Spiderman superpowers so they could make a movie about him and subsequently make money.

Nah' date=' that's too far fetched.

Or they injected steriods and spider DNA when in the embryo stage?

And the whole spider at the museum thing was a sham.
