~ P O L A R I S ~
If I have a dollar and some dude needs it, I give it to them. Losing a bus ticket and having to ask around's a real jabroni, so I've sorta been there. =p

Exiro
I'd give him food if I had any food with me. That way, I'm guaranteed that he doesn't buy alcohol or drugs with it.
T. Sankara
I'd most def give out to the needy homeless. Some high school kid, I answered no. If it were my friend, I'd be heartbroken, because I care about my friends. So I'd definitely help them out.
Amethyst Phoenix
I answered yes to both because I knew there would be some saw-it-coming-a-mile-away plot twist that would attempt to demonize me for not being a paragon of charity if I answered no to either. Davok
tl;dr all the other posts. xD Yes and yes. Mostly because why the hell not? It's only a dollar. What's he gonna do? Get addicted to chewing gum?

Ah but you see, you have just proven your self "demonized" for only doing something out of fear something you didn't want to have happen, would happen. ;)
Lemniscate
Frankly, your situation lacks nuance. In any individual situation, actions are based out of determinations made in that specific scenario. To attempt to boil down a moralistic attack to such a limited hypothetical situation is entirely ridiculous. Any decisions made would be based on several things:- The attitude of the homeless person.- The closeness of the person to their friend. Now, you may say that any individual reactions are based on dispositions that exist in a person's psyche, separate from an individual event, but regardless of previous predisposition, actions in a specific scenario are variable based on the constraints and circumstances of that specific moment in time. Dark
No to both. I can work for a few seconds and get paid 7 cents, and then buy cookies from McDonalds with that money. =)

-Griffin
Except that a good number of "homeless" people are con artists who make a living by being professional beggars (its tax-free!). I'm sorry' date=' but are you mentally retarded? You have been watching to many movies. Being a con artist just to beg for a couple dollars? That con artist has to be incredibly stupid, or from china. Why? Because becoming a conartist just to beg for a dollar a day will make you about 15 dollars a month. That's just plain retarded.[/quote'] My local priest went to a local city in normal clothes and started begging around for money to see how hard it was for the homeless - around £100 in 4 hours, ($150).Yeah, that's AWFUL pay for a good con artist. Guest King of Games
i saw too homeless people "working" on the same strength of street one time in toronto. One was an middle aged asian man playing the hammonica and waving a styroform cup at people with his free hand. The other was a young white man playing the violin. Who do you think was earning more money?
-Griffin
The one with the violin, although I feel I'm pointing out the obvious...
Amethyst Phoenix
Well, personally I'd give it to the violin player. I don't really care for the harmonica, and the frantic waving of the cup in my face would be rather off-putting. I'm rather fond of the violin, and would most likely put money in whatever apparatus was nearby the performer. There, I have taken your "Bait", and now your twisted logic allows you to accuse me of being racist.
Muluck
I am quite surprised to see how many people are un able to understand exactly what it means to be homeless. Being homeless, for most people is not by choice. Their houses may have been destroyed by Natural Disasters. Their companies gone bankrupt, a family member dieing and not being able to pay the bill. Many of these things lead to being homeless. Now I do agree, there are people who had a choice. Be it whether or not to do drugs or kill this person or rape that person. Now while I think that those people deserve that punishment, I don't automatically un acknowledge them.
