Is there Right or Wrong?

If I kill Bob, I believe I am doing right.

If I kill Bob, Bob's parents will believe I am doing wrong.

If I kill Bob, Bob's adversary will believe I am doing right.

If I kill Bob, the government will believe I am doing wrong.

Wrong and right are never set in stone, because the circumstances are always different.

To further emphasize how circumstantial this is, here's some other version.

You didn't think killing Bob was right, because it was an accident and you were aiming for his kneecaps.

Bob's parents were right because they know he's a worthless rapist.

Bob's adversary won't think it's right because he's a prosecutor that wants him rehabilitated.

The government thinks you're right because it was in self defense (mileage may vary by state).

Technically there is a right and wrong, but there is most likely no person who's opinions absolutely coincide with it.

It's like chasing the holy grail.

no.

war is not right for the losers. The winners end up thinking it was totally right

War is good for the world' date=' because humans die there, and humans are bad for the world. The problem is when humans use nuclear stuff, that hurts the world.

[/quote']

Bad for the world? Why is it good for the world to have life in the first place?

Allows the Earth to brag about it. Makes jealous the rest of the solar system.

Then let's destroy Earth for the sake of the rest of the Solar System.

That would make it boring.

I think what I say is right, and what you say is wrong. That's what this thread is about, right?

There is right and wrong, however different cultures perceive right and wrong differently. This can be seen through laws and other such regulations within a nation. Things that are controlled or regulated are viewed as wrong and a threat to society. The essence of right and wrong is just how we as a society perceive how our world should be run.

I think the words used here are poor, because they imply some purpose for existence. There is zero ground to propose that any event is a "right" or "wrong" one, except in the context of achieving a certain goal.

Better words to use would be "good" and "bad." And the answer to this question would be yes.

However, they are words with an entirely subjective meaning. It's a tenet of philosophy that good can only be defined in terms of evil, and evil likewise in terms of good. Since the concepts only have meaning in their own opposition, they are entirely subjective.

Obviously, however, there is a loosely standardized moral code throughout the world. I can go on explaining the evolutionary basis of morality, and I'm sure a religious person could go on explaining the religious significance of morality, but to be honest it's irrelevant.

YOu must conform to the moral standard or change it if you wish to continue to exist unhindered. It's pretty simple.
