Dark
School uniforms should not be required, because it takes away freedom, it restricts developement, et cetera. HOWEVER, there should be some kind of restriction on what you can wear. For example, uniforms shouldn't be required, but shirts depicting porn or racist comments should not be allowed. Besides, why wear that sheet to school? I wear pr0nz shirts at the mall. 8)

Dark
Playing devil's advocate here, uniforms should be required because it creates a sense of uniformism in a school, and somewhat creates order and discipline (sp?).

To-Chi
Meh, I wore uniforms at my old school, it wasn't all that bad. On the up-side you have the lack of competition in who looks best, raising self-esteem of some, but on the down-side it limits creativity and individuality, lowering artistic output. Plus you wouldn't have "gang colors" as my current school so eloquently phrased it. But that depends on where you live. I live in back-woods rural Indiana, USA. The closest things we have to gangs here are KKK-wannabes, and even they're just unorganized, inactive bigots.
Brushfire
I'll use the only argument my school has towards it and can't think of any other rebuttals: Having non-uniform would mean there would be more bullying at the school as poor people would stand out more, etc. I'm like... yeah, because we don't know who the chavs and emos are already, amirite? Spartan919
I think school uniforms can have good sides and bad sides. For example, uniforms take away our freedom of self-expression, but can stop bullying due to clothes. I am pretty much neutral on the subject of uniforms. Seems like I wanna punch you all in the face for intolerance and force you to sit down with a couple "chavs" to have a good time. Kinda like how a zoo makes animals get along -_-. As for me, I don't like the idea. As I'm easily distinguished by my CONSTANT light blue long sleeves and dark blue pants. It explains who I am, and am proud of it. Light blue and dark blue don't really match unless the dark blue is closer to black than it is to blue.

CinnamonStar
^lol I know the laziness.>.> I should be writing something for tomorrow but I'll probably start... tomorrow. Pros that come up on top of my mind:-lowers the looks competition at school (can be either the thing with labels or people going to school mostly to show off their looks). Also there are other ways of self-expression.-lowers "group" thinking (skaters thinking they have to stay with skaters, metal people staying with metal people, etc.), some kind of "uniformity"-same prize for everyone Cons:-there will still be ways to "get around it". School uniforms are just some parts, people will still roll in with huge expensive jewelry, tattoos, whatever-uniforms are usually expensive, plus you'll need more than 1 since you don't wear the same one during the entire year. So it doesn't really help families with low income. Other contra argument people often use: "School uniforms look horrible." That's true for some, but I've seen the ones from a highschool in Hamburg and they don't look that bad. The uniforms in Japan are even imitated like a fashion trend. But considering the way things are in Luxembourg and around, I'm pro uniforms.I wouldn't have a problem with it even though I'm not at highschool anymore. -Berserker-
Pro: The girls don't spend 4 hours dressing before going to school. People without knowledge of style always knows what to wear.Con: Some schools have their totally unique uniform design that can only be obtained in a store that is owned by the principal, and he sell those at any price he wants, and if you get yours dirty, you have nothing else to wear until you wash it.
