I lol'd at the irony.

Brushfire

Recommended Posts

I was sat in assembly today, far too awake to fall asleep, annoyingly enough. So I had to endure whatever bulls*** was shoved down our mouths in the time I liked to call "lets tell the kids that getting better grades improves their lives for the 1000th time =D".

Today was slightly different. We were told about a small group of about 6 people that had gone to Ethopia in Africa to look after children and older people there. As a rich country, of course we would do something like that. So after all the heart-warming sheet that I'm sure was very interesting and moved many people that someone who had it to spare gave 2l of water away to someone who needed it, the subject changed a bit. The person telling us about it said something like "You look at the two extremes while you're over there, the slums that the children there have to live in, then the huge palace that the government live in, and then near the slums so you see it right before your eyes the hotels, and offices that the Americans bought". I sat there and thought to myself "Wait, you mean the hotels that YOU were staying in?" and laughed about it a bit. He then asked someone else who went's opinion and they said something along the lines off "it's disgusting when you see these starving children". Again, I thought "while you were eating loads of food and enjoying hotel food?".

Stupid, in my opinion. Discuss.

I've experienced something slightly the same. I'm homeschooled, so no assembly experience (I'm not homeschooled for Christian reasons) and my parents were big Obama supporters in 08'. You know he talks about starving children and jobless people, and my parents were moved, yet all I could think was, 'Wait- I don't see you housing any children in your White House' or something like that, it was a while a go so I can's remember that well. And now, I think he could be helping starving children rather than changing 'Christmas' to 'Holiday'.

Anyway, I think that experience is kind of the same. Well, maybe not really, but kind of, if you know what I mean.

It's hypocritical, granted.

However, if the people in question are making contributions, however humble, there is an impact. Better they be given charity than exploited by Nike or some similar sweatshop chain.

Hell, even if they're not and are just influencing others to, that's an improvement on just staying at hotels chomping down their Filet Mignon while doing absolutely nothing amirong?

The first part of your thread seems to change into about 7 different sentences all in 2 sentences. It was very hard to follow, in fact I still don't get it.

But on to what your thread is about, I would have said it out loud and then politely pointed out that if America can't even fix the same problem it is having, how are we ever going to fix someone else's problem?

Someone once said:

"Do your own time, not someone elses."

America needs to get their priorities straight, before they go about fixing other countries problems.

I now realize that you are in fact not in America, therefore I have no idea why I made this post. Never the less I remember sitting through the same lectures when I was in Highschool.

Hilarious.

However' date=' I don't believe in giving up my things to fix others' screw ups and bad situations simply because I can, nor do I believe that America has any obligation whatsoever to help these people. When the countries we piss away money to help hate us, they can go earn their living like we did.

[/quote']

I heard that in some African Countries the government takes some money away that we are donating, or so I heard.

You wrote that like a mong.

Amethyst Phoenix you have no heart and no social conscience. How cna you think that starving people with no money for food or education and no opportunity for a job are screw ups. If you're a retarded patriotic Americans who believes in making America a great nation then go and funk yourself. Seriously, drop that crap and think of it as we are all human and we all inhabit earth, therefore all humans are obliged to help other humans in need.

You're basically saying you wont support Children in Need who are in a different state to you. Except for the fact that America is all rich. Anyway my point stands, nationalism and patriotism and things of the past and will lead to racism, discrimination and fascism.

No, they aren't obliged to do anything. Stop using rights to explain what we have to do, their government should get themselves out of this problem while we get out of ours.

No, that is NOT what I'm saying at all. I'm saying that these people are hypocritcal for saying it's disgusting to see Americans building all these Hotels etc. when they are staying in them and eating their food. I understand my writing in this thread was terrible, but that doesn't excuse you being a dumbass.

And my point about obligation in current law, I know, isn't true. But I'm not talking technically or legally, I'm talking theoretically. I'm saying it's a human obligation to help other humans in need - or at least should be. And yes their government is terribly run, but this is mainly because of modernised, western capitalist countries, namely America.
