Amethyst Phoenix
Actually' date=' the reason they blame Doom is because they trained playing Doom and Wolfestein. It doesn't means that made them kill. If that were true, there would be more mass murderers now.[/quote'] Lolno. They did not train for it by playing doom. Shooting a real gun is nothing like playing an FPS. As for this (very old issue), games do not cause violence whatsoever, unless either your child is delusional (in which case it's their own terrible brain and/or flawed genetics that are at fault) or you fail at teaching your children the concepts of fantasy and reality. People that are just agressive jerks didn't become that way by playing games. They play games because of it, because it provides a place where they can vent their rage without hurting others, or bringing the law crashing down on them. Not everyone plays games for that reason. They can be enjoyed by many different kinds of people, not just to vent rage. Other people whine about violent games, saying that they should be abolished because it's horrifying that we make such things for our kids to play with. The age of the average gamer is 30 >_> Gaming is not a children's hobby, much like movies are not a children's hobby. They merely have forms intended for children. Sonic is for kids, Gears of War is not; Finding Nemo is for kids, Saw is not. The media continues to fail to make the connection, and continues to regard video games as toys. Then again, this is the same media that refers to all games as computer games (even when they're on consoles). They don't know their facts. The media (and people that are like-minded) is also hypocritical. I'm a terrible person for sniping an alien in the head, but it's perfectly normal to get enjoyment from watching people brutally injure themselves to escape traps? And their "logic" behind that is this: Movies aren't real, and you're just watching. However, in games you're commiting these acts. Movies contain far worse and more realistic depictions of violence than games, but that gets disregarded. They also apparently forget games are fantasy as well. And another thing: Is sitting there and watching someone get murdered without making any attempt to intervene any better than killing the person yourself? Like caffeine and cell phones before it, video games are used as a convenient scapegoat by the media and parents who are unwilling to acknowledge their own faults, as well as demonized by xenophobic, ignorant imbeciles. OnSlaUghT
My principal always makes a reference to this incident right before he tells us never to make fun of someone or taunt them. Ironically they only make the children taunt others more
Juuzou
If the kid's weren't violent in the first place, they wouldn't buy the games -.-
Infinitus
No. Do you know what made them kill? There could be a number of possibilities, depending on their targets:-Low self-esteem from the cut-throat, vicious attitudes of their peers.-The parents, which could've been a number of problems. Well, those are the ones I can think of. The parents of the murderers couldn't believe that their little boys committed a murder, so they had to pin that anger and emotions on something, or let it collapse on themselves, blaiming themselves for it. That is a theory I have about tragic, extremely suprising events.

Spirit of DMG
seriously, was I ignored?I've played Fable since I was 10. Does that mean I've been plotting a way to take a sword/Bow & arrows into town and kill everyone? no, it doesn't. Nor am I a violent person, I just like the genre. Action. the same with my James Bond games: It's fun. The kids had no way to defend themselves in the real world, so they played to games so they could stand up for themselves, if only virtually. In the games, they were in control, they didn't have to take it. but in Reality, they couldn't stand up for themselves, and they were pushed to the edge. Now, lets compare notes here:a bunch of idiots kept picking on these kids, making fun of them for whatever reason, and then they died. Now, I don't know this game, Doom, was it? but I don't think it involves sniping a bunch of students from the roof, or whatever they did.It was gonna happen. No matter what, it would have happened. The idiots were asking for it. "The cornered rat bites the cat." These kids were being backed into a corner every day: Columbine was going to happen, video games or not. The parents never taught their kids self-control. In the end, it comes down to the "Victims" causing it. There are two kinds of fights: a fight to defend one's life, and a fight to defend one's honor. the killers at Columbine were fighting for their honor. Now, they may have a decent life today, had they not killed those people, but they never stood up for themselves, thus their honor was broken, perhaps beyond repair. So, what would that life be for?
