Prologue (Ep. 0) – The Shifting Tide

Note: This is a prologue episode, designed to be a last Filler Arc before the next season of Naruto starts up (that being Gaiden, not Shippuden). I am also using this as a way to gauge how much you guys (the members) like my Fan-Fiction writing; On that vein, I’m willing to accept any constructive criticism from you guys so that I can improve my writing ability.

Sasuke was slowly and woozily walking through a dense forest away from the Leaf Village; he was grasping his arm, stumbling around and wearily bobbing his head as he nodded in and out of consciousness. He stopped and looked up and saw the rain start again. The grass below began to wane as the rain slowly barrages them and animals rush to cover to avoid the blanket of water from the sky. The raindrops struck Sasuke’s body, and trickled down all of his body, and dripped off him slowly to the floor. *Hmm... The Rain has started again. This should mask my scent from Kakashi’s hounds. But, I best not wait around, the Leaf Village have most likely send tracker-ninja after me to bring me back to the village* thought Sasuke as he began to walk again, now with a new found conviction. Sasuke rushed through the trees, sending birds flying away. Meanwhile, a pitch-black raven flew away from Sasuke’s location and began circulating over the Valley of the End. However, a few seconds later, the same raven flew away from the village towards the seas...

6 months passed since that faithful day that Sasuke betrayed the Leaf Village, and the word of his betrayal had spread across the land. Sasuke found his way to the Sound Village with no interference from the Leaf Village. The Leaf Village had time to reflect and mourn the loss of one of their finest rookie ninja, but also the loss of the entire Uchiha clan from the Land of Fire. And as they did, the landscape of the world around them shifted heavily; most notably Orochimaru trained Sasuke in preparation for the body swap, Akatsuki advanced out in teams to prepare for their eventual blitz for the Biyuu, and all the while this is happening a dark sinister terror was growing from the east, darker than anything Akatsuki or Orochimaru has or ever could cause to the world...

At the Hokage Building, a medium-sized muscular ninja; wearing a red shirt with black long jacket, pants, striped tie and blood red-tinted sunglasses, was walking slowly with hands in pockets down the arching hallway towards the Hokage’s Office. Along the wall beside him he went by window after window, with the light brightening up the area periodically. He continued to walk along the hallway which seemed to last forever and out the window, he saw Konohamaru, Udon and Moegi, who were bidding farewell to Jiraiya and Naruto as they were leaving the Leaf Village for his training. The suited man stops in his tracks and looks out at them.

*So... the Fox and the Hermit. So much alike... not surprising Jiraiya’s taking him under his wing* thought the suited man. Suddenly, a large female figure appeared behind him. “So... Was I taking that long, that your got bored of waiting for me... Lady Tsunade?” he said calmly. He looked over his shoulder at Tsunade behind him with Shizune in tow. Tsunade placed her hand on his shoulder and walked to his other side, so her arm was placed around his shoulders. He turned his head with eyes closed. He then opened his eyes slowly with a steely, slight intensity in his eyes. When his eyes met the medium between Tsunade and Shizune’s eyes, Shizune was clearly physically rocked by him. Tsunade looked back subtly and noticed her plight.

“Hmm... So the rumours are true about that stare of yours... Suteibu” said Tsunade, with an almost smug tone. Suteibu just turned his head and looked out the window again. Tsunade and Shizune both also looked out the window and saw Naruto’s departure. *Naruto... Jiraiya...* thought Tsunade as he watched them walking towards the gates of the Leaf Village. A twinkle appeared in Tsunade’s eye, and lasted for a few seconds. “Shizune... Go get Sakura and prepare her for the training to begin. Tell her I’ll be at the 2nd Training Ground shortly” ordered Tsunade. Shizune didn’t argue, she simply bowed and walked away from the two. Tsunade and Suteibu stared at each other, and without saying a word Tsunade walked off towards her office and Suteibu followed, as if ordered to.

After a short walk, they reached her office. Tsunade sat down in her chair, leaned forward and placed her hands together while looking at Suteibu, who stood there looking rather bored. “So. What did you want me for?” asked Suteibu. Tsunade didn’t speak, she just continued to stare a hole through him, analysing him carefully, pondering his worth to her. About 2 minutes passed with her staring at him, thinking while Suteibu stood there patiently... Just then, Suteibu sighed. “Lady Tsunade with all due respect, but I’m getting bored now. What do you want!?” he asked forcefully. Tsunade leaned back, smiled and continued to stare. Shortly after, Suteibu turned around, walked to the door and opened it; yet he didn’t open it as if to walk out but to open the door for someone. And as he opened to door, the village elders were standing in the doorway and walked in. Tsunade looked at Suteibu with some shock on her face.

*How did he know they would be there?* thought Tsunade as the last elder walked in. Suteibu closed to door and walked back to his previous spot. He looked on and saw all the Elders in a line on either side of Tsunade, who was sitting upright in her chair, in the centre of the group. “Now, Suteibu... sorry to delay you for so long and on to why you are here” said Tsunade sternly. “The reason you are here is the Elders and I have agreed to a very dangerous mission for whichever ninja was assigned to it. And remember that you can decline this mission at your own discretion. No one here will force you to partake on this” she said and the elders nodded in unison while Suteibu just stared at them, almost bored. “The mission, if you choose to accept it... is to join and investigate the Akatsuki organization”. Suteibu’s eyes widened slightly at the prospect of infiltrating the most dangerous and infamous organization of Shinobi in the world. “Hopefully you realised we are asking you to do this, because we know that on your last mission while you were separated from the rest of your squad, that you were approached to join Akatsuki. I’ll cut to the quick from here... We want you to go and join them and investigate them and their motives. There is still so much we don’t know about them and Jiraiya’s Intel and only tell us so much”. Without hesitation, Suteibu nodded and bowed his head at the council.

“Just remember” said one of the Elders and Suteibu looked back. “If you are confronted by anyone from the Leaf Village, they will be ordered to eliminate you on sight. You will not be apprehended”. Suteibu nodded and jumped out the window towards the gates. “I hope this was the correct course of action” said another of the Elders concerned. “We need information on Akatsuki, and this is the best way to get it” said another forcefully and group of Elders left the office...

One week passed since then, and Suteibu was standing in a field waiting. Shortly afterward, three Akatsuki members appeared; two in front and one behind. *Hmm... Three of them?* thought Suteibu curiously as he varied looking from front to back. The wind blew fiercely from left to right blowing off their conical hats. A grin appeared on Suteibu’s face and the laughed a little as he looked at the three ninja again. “So... it’s you three... Where to now?”

Elsewhere on a moonlit, empty land; a group of ninja, dressed in stereotypical clothing, were standing around a massive black gate, looking at it. One of them looked up and saw the black raven flying on a collision course with the gate. When the bird hit the gate, instead of crashing into it and bouncing away from it, the raven went straight through as if the gate was not there. The ninja looked on in horror as they saw this. On the other side, there was a land of decadent, dead and desolate swampland, where no life could possibly be maintained or established to begin with. However, to great surprise... on a low-lying cliff near to the gates, there was a man, sitting in a meditative state, unfazed by the land around him. Then, the raven came into close range and began circling the man, slowly getting lower and lower.

“You are late” muttered the man in a calm, wispy voice talking to the raven. The bird landed in front of him on a small, black tree branch and bowed, as if begging this man for forgiveness. “So... What have you got for me?” he asked calmly. The raven (still bowing) opened its mouth and dropped a small black orb onto the hand of the man. As the orb rolled onto the index finger of the man, it suddenly mutated into the likeness of a small railroad spike. The man slowly raised his index finger to his forehead and pushed the spike into his head and his head recoiled back as his finger touched his head. He pulled his head back upright and showed no visible signs of trauma on his forehead; showing the spike didn’t tear into his head like a spike normally would, it just phased through his head like the raven went through the gates. The man chuckled softly, slowly growing into maniacal laughter and let out only one word: “Perfect!!!” before laughing again...
