alexthomsan
5 Characteristics of a Quality Violin Tutor 1. Patience. Teaching can be both rewarding and exasperating. Thus, your educator should be able to control her temper even if she feels like screaming and shouting. Lacking this type of skill could quickly deflate your motivation to learn. 2. Excellent time-management skills. Showing up to lessons on time is part of this. However, it also involves the instructor’s preparation for lessons and efficient managing of the duration of the session. Failing to do that can result in lessons become less beneficial. Lessons for violins typically cost money, so you might as well get your money’s worth, right? 3. Good communication skills. While music is indeed a “universal language,” a mentor’s communicating can seem like a foreign language. Not everyone who plays instruments can explain how to play them. The mentor should be adept at explaining various aspects of playing the instrument. 4. Fairness. It’s normal for us to like certain people better than others. However, it’s crucial for a violin tutor to be objective, and to treat each of her students with objectivity. This involves the overall way that she interacts with her students, and also how she evaluates a pupil’s skills. Failing to do that exhibits an unprofessional approach to the profession. 5. A sensor of humor. Our minds often contain the imagery of a stereotypical scowling instructor. However, as students we respond better to teachers who can smile and laugh. When trainers are able to make learning fun we’re more likely to keep on keeping on.
