[DISC] Dragunity & Dragunity Knights

Rather than create an individual thread for every new Dragunity monster I'd rather have one thread to discuss the theme and any new monster/support card that comes out for it. The last thread about these guys as a whole ended around their 2nd or 3rd Duel Terminal release.

These cards have a ton of synergy amongst themselves and other cards/arhcetypes. Being Winged-Beast Type monsters they can be hybrid with Blackwings for quick Synchro Summons giving blackwings a long term game when their swarm tactics fail. Blackwings being Dark monsters and Dragunity being Wind monsters you can add in Dark Simorgh to give them control. In combination with select Mist Valley cards you can create some rather nice combos with them. Cyber Darks just got a synchro engine with Dragunity - Phalanx. Funny enough Dragon based decks don't really benefit from their tuners though they can be used with them.

Icarus Attack goes hand-in-hand with them allowing them to clear the field for swarming and create a OTK scenario. Good draw power with Treasure of Harmony and Allure of Darkness if spliced with Blackwings.

Most of us have heard about the Primus Pilus OTK scenario but if you haven't already I'll go over it in detail.

Summon Dragunity - Primus Pilus and use its effect to equip Dragunity - Brandistock to it. Brandistock allows Primus Pilus to attack twice for 4400 damage. Play the quick-play spell Swallow's Nest and Tribute Primus Pilus for another Primus Pilus to once again equip Brandistock to it for another 2 attacks for 4400 ATK. Normally, Summoning Primus Pilus would be a pain but these guys just got 2 cards in DT08 - Pulse of Trishula to speed up his summon.

Dragunity - Pilum

WIND/Dragon - Tuner/3/1400/1000

When this card is Normal Summoned successfully, you can Special Summon 1 "Dragunity" Bird-Type monster from your hand, and equip this card treated as Equip Card to it. If this card was equipped treated as an Equip Card by a card effect, the equipped monster can attack your opponent directly. At that time, Battle Damage from the equipped monster to your opponent's Life Points is halved.

Dragunity - Partisan

WIND/Dragon - Tuner/2/1200/800

When this card is Normal Summoned, you can Special Summon 1 Winged Beast-Type "Dragunity" monster from your hand, treat this card as an Equip Card and equip it to that card. If this card is equipped to a monster as an Equip Card, the equipped monster is treated as a Tuner.

Obviously, the idea is Normal Summon one of the above monsters to SS Primus Pilus to start the OTK. Partisan has that drawback of making the monster a tuner so Pilum is the ideal monster to run to create versatility but to hasten a OTK scenario both of these cards should be run. Pilum allows for Synchro options as you can SS Primus Pilus to equip Phalanx and SS itself and sync for Dragunity Knight - Trident or any other non-specific Level 7 Synchro Monster.

They recieved a new Synchro as well:

Dragunity Knight - Barchha

WIND/Dragon - Synchro - Effect/8/2000/1200

1 Dragon-Type Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner Bird-Type monsters

When this card is Synchro Summoned, you can select any number of Dragon-Type "Dragunity" monsters in your Graveyard, treat them as Equip Cards and equip them to this card. This card gains ATK equal to the number of "Dragunity" cards equipped to it x 300.

He can create a OTK scenario himself with 3x Brandistock or you can equip 3x phalanx's and SS all 3 to Synch Phalanx and this card for Trident Dragon and destroy the other 2 Phalanx's for 3 attacks for game. Unfortunately, he's not easy to Summon in a pure Dragunity Deck as you need Primus Pilus and either Pilum or Black Spear. The other options is having a Level 6 Dragunity Knight, prefarably Dragunity Knight - Vajuranda, equipped with Corsesca and using a level 2 Winged-Beast like Fane or Shield Wing.

A personal favorite card from the theme is Dragunity Knight - Trident:

Dragunity Knight - Trident

WIND/Dragon - Synchro - Effect/7/2400/1700

1 Dragon-Type Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner Winged Beast-Type monsters.

Once per turn, you can send up to 3 cards from your side of field to the Graveyard to look at your opponent's Extra Deck and send to the Graveyard cards equal to the number of cards that you sent to your Graveyard.

It's a nice anti-Synchro/Fusion Card as you can send annoying monsters like Gyazrus, Brionac, Stardust, Goyo, Catastor, etc... to the Graveyard before they are Summoned. It's just incredibly unfortunate that it costs so much field presence to do so. Not really worth the trouble but still fun nonetheless. Anyways, incredibly fun deck to play around with it so feel free to discuss.

Dragunities+Blackwings+Dark Sim=Win

this is my second favorite archtype. first being blackwings.

Agreed, this is one of the few archetypes I've enjoyed playing with and it allows me to combine with the Blackwing archetype that I enjoy playing (despite being horribly broken).

When the theme first came out it was better to splice them in with Blackwings since there wasn't many cards to work with. At this point they have a decent spread of cards to use so deck space for other blackwings is very limited. Plus, there's some consistency issues when you don't have the necessary pieces to form an offense.

I'm really liking the Primus Plus OTK and the ease of it with Dragunity - Pilum now.
