Except that there's no way to prove if the original epic poem, which would have been passed down orally at first, had those Christian elements. Most likely, when it was first put down in writing, it was done so by a monk, who replaced the pagan elements with Christian ones.

A lot of the pagan elements are still in the poem. :/

But the story is pretty epic nonetheless. <3

Of course not. Except Grendel. He was one of my favorite villains in all of the epics that I've read.

He was pagan.

Go read the story again.

The story was recorded and christianized from the pagan version. The actual story was created before christianity came to Scandinavia. In the story he is a christian, but he was actually a pagan, or the story came to be pre-christianity.

No, I don't think so. But he was a Swede and came to Denmark. It was told by the norse, and the saxons who setteled Britain and came from Denmark and Germany.

All of the people come from the Germanic peoples. It was also told by the norse, like y'know, vikings?

I understand that much.

So, this was down from Vikings originally, then the monk? No wonder it's been changed. -_-
