Yugioh is more popular than magic (fact we got a guiness record to prove it).

Magic is now as expensive as yugioh just look at: the new jace' date=' the baneslayer angel, that new demon, the fetch lands, etc. and that's just standard. Legacy will cost you a crap load of money your deck can cost you around 500-1500$ and Extended will still require a lot of investment. Let's forget vintage because you can use proxies. And you run 40 cards in YGO vs 60 in MTG, so that usually covers the 15 cards in your extra deck.

If you want something competitive you'll need at least 200$ for your deck.

Now, for Yugioh, sure if you want to play LS it will cost you around 350$. Zombies are even cheaper. But you're forgetting the fact that you can still get GB for around 75$ and it's as competitive as your Vampires.

Go play vs mono blue in legacy or grixis in standard it's a pain rounds are 50 min and you'll most likely have to go into overtime. The only thing I like in Magic is that you win money at big events but it's a lot harder to get there (for pro tour at least).

As for pokemon, the video games are very popular but I'm not so sure about the TCG.

Baneslayer is highly overpriced, I agree. It shouldn't be more than $20, but since it set the new standard for what's acceptable in 5 drops, it's still quite up there. New Jace and the Persecutor are overpriced because Worldwake just came out. I'm sure that they'll drop down to about $20 in time. And no, Glads in YGO aren't as competitive as Vampires are in Magic. Vampires are looking to be sharing the top spot with Jund, at least until Rise of the Eldrazi comes out and give us even more awesome Vampires, whereas Glads only had 1 deck making a showing at top 16 in the most recent Shonen Jumps (1 at SJ LA and 0 at SJ Columbus).

The average number of lands in a standard deck is about 20, and people can and will give lands away to people for free, so basically the deck size is the same when price is involved.

And, again, Magic isn't a very slow game unless you play a format where slow decks reign. Standard games don't often last past the 10th round, at least in my experience.

actually, it depends on the type of tournaments u play,

in magic, all the tournaments dont allow u to use old cards, except the vintage and Legend tournaments

In vintage and legend players use old cards, those old cards can cost hundreds to thousands of dollars cuz they are very rare and they stop releasing them, just go on ebay and see those expensive cards

and who said pokemon is more popular than mtg ?

hey, mtg is the first TCG in the world, and it's the premire Card game untill this very moment

yea and they are still #1, solid game is solid

also about getting into the game, Im new to magic, actually I just started playing about 2 months ago, and now I feel that I know alot of things (except for the novels and deep stories of course). There are core sets released every once in a year you can start with them, they made them for new players.

you can see the list of sets in this page

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Core_Sets

it helped me alot knowing about the sets, decks and stuff

I can cite at least one source agreeing with me. Can you? YGO overtook MtG, so PKMN isn't too big of a stretch anyways.

As I said >10 times already - Age = Nothing.

Where's your source that says that Pokemon is the 2nd biggest card game in terms of sales? Because YGO is definitely 1st, but I'm almost certain that MtG is 2nd.

YGO is #1 in SALES

but that doesn't mean it is the best card game in the world, mtg is

you know, KIDS love yugioh but hate mtg, yugioh has an anime while mtg dont, yugioh is sold in more countries than mtg (the middle east < yugioh is sold in most of the countries, while mtg MAY be found in 1 or 2 countries)

^ That's why it got the #1 in sales

I'm actually abstaining from answering that until Omega stops throwing conjecture around and gives a source - good or not.

I can think of more than 2 countries MtG is sold in off-head, and I don't even know too much about the game's sales:

America

Canada

Japan

Yes, I can confirm these. It started in America, I live in Canada, and they have cards in Japanese.

Plus, it doesn't matter if YGO used an anime or children to boost sales, the simple fact is that they have more sales.

I prefer MTG after playing it for a few months.

I already have 4 decks, and I'm starting to get the feel of the game, and will probably switch soon from Timmy to Johnny/Timmy as I unlock the knowledge of all the combos and cards.

Maybe PKMN and YGO are more popular worldwide, but not at my locals.

I have never encountered a 100/100 Trample' date=' Flying, Deathtouch, Fear, Shroud token. Have you ever played Magic?

[/quote']

Yes I do, and I run a Sliver deck. (Which can provide me with those.)

And a friend of mine ran a Saproling token deck that when he enchanted a card, all other cards sharing the name got it as well.

After playing a few games of magic and watching and playing tier decks over the past few weeks I've come to the conclusion that magic is a dreadful game which is entirely about the topdeck and is not at all skillful. There's some skill in knowing when to play certain cards and keeping lands in your hand for bluffing, also knowing what each colour is capable of doing to be able to make better decisions, but for the most part its entirely about who is able to play out their hand faster. The fact that in yugioh you can play any card at any time and you're heavily punished if you do it wrongly or prematurely actually makes it a better game.

1. Magic requires thought, and I'd prefer not to have a stroke for thinking to hard...

2. Yugioh has new decktypes coming out consistantly

3. The basic game mechanics of yugioh are far easier to understand

4. Yugioh plays faster

5. Last time I checked, there was no card named something evern close to SUPER NIMBLE MEGA HAMSTER!!!!!

  1. Thinking is bad now?
  2. Same with MtG, last I checked. That said, lower frequency, yes.
  3. Only slightly.
  4. Depends on the deck you run. MtG can be just as fast.
  5. MtG inserts freeform use of internet memes and lulzy jokes into their flavor text. Some of the card names are funny, and they even have 2 joke sets. I think that should make up for it.

Eh, in my original list 1 kinda is the same as 3. And I think LORD British Space fighter and SUPER NIMBLE MEGA HAMSTER top the joke sets, although I've never seen them, want to link me to them?

All cards from both Joke Sets.

The joke sets have a 2-card FTK that's funnier than Yu-Jo Friendship FTK:

1) No it is not....most of the Best MTG are combo based if this is what you mean the game is about top decking but there are far a good number of strategies that are not as lucksack as in other games for the most...the top deck in YGO is all about lucksaking and topdecking and not all that skillled so what's the probleme there???

2)This is not true neither...keeping lands in hand doesn't happpen much coz in order to keep playing the mayor number of cards you must play your lands otherwise you'll losss the ability to keep your game marching on by been short of resources...that some players do it doesn't means everyone do an hand control isn't very used in standar st least so bluffing with lands in cards is a really bad idea. Even more if you are running a landfall and keep the lands iun your hand you are doing it wrong

3)Yugioh is 50% about OTKing so......

1. Magic requires thought' date=' and I'd prefer not to have a stroke for thinking to hard...

3. The basic game mechanics of yugioh are far easier to understand

1_I dont see the problem here...

2_So as magic each new set brings up new mechanics to be exploded and at least 3/4 new deck types can surge around them and that counts like every 2 new expantion or so....

also since the release of M10 the renewal of mechanics and game style will most likely release new decktypes every year

3_Kinda but it is not a problem like statd in point 1

4_Sure he we dont have FTKs bad that is not a bad thing and some deck....like Goblins, Elves, Dark Depth can finish games easily and fast.

5_Oh yeah in card games the most important thing is that the card has a EPICLY FUNNY name otherwise it is not worth it....>_< seriously ive seen so much of this lately...in the other hand like have been said MTG had release 2 Joke Full sets and in MTG defense it will not have that kind of childish names because the context where it moves around is plenty different......

Other things is favor of MTG are the many ways you have to play outside of basic standars...4/5 differnet official tournament format + 3/4 casual formats for players to enjoy makes MTG more expansive to different tastes...like playing 2 Headed Giant, or Planechase or Elden Dragon Highlander are formats really fun to play and are not the main or standar MTG games....

My elf ball deck will take you out in 5 turns, so you won't be able to do much.
