Information regarding U.K. Nationals

Recommended Posts

Since the U.K. nationals will be completely run by Konami for the first time this year, certain changes have been made. Firstly, under the old rules, the top 8 players at any regional qualifier would receive a Nats invite, and players who got into top 8 that had already qualified had their places handed down. Now, the number of invites given depends on the turnout to the event. For every 8 players at an event, 1 invite will be handed out. However, places are not handed down if a player who has already qualified happens to top, which doesn't make much sense in my opinion.

Secondly, Konami are limiting the amount of regional qualifiers that can take place in the U.K. to 20. This is frustrating because it means that our T.O. who has successfully ran Nats qualifiers for years has been declined from doing so this time round.

So what are your opinions on these changes? I think the cons outweigh the pros to be honest, but some will argue that this will narrow down Nationals participants to more highly skilled players. However, I don't feel that all players are receiving an equal opportunity considering many are now going to have to find ways of travelling for miles to attend an event.

Also, I'd like to know if the American system for Regionals/Nationals is the same or if it too has undergone changes since Konami's take over.

I hope not...

Its really starting to look like a 100 man nats now :(

why is that a bad thing? a larger player base lets random decks not win as easy, and makes good players with good decks stand out more.

a larger sample size will prove which decks are more consistent.

so why is that a bad thing?

Cause it limits the number of people willing to travel to the event and share a small room to reduce costs and, more importantly, limits the number of people who will be going out drinking the night before and after.
