Greek Mythology

Yeah, this was a good thread idea. Too bad the previous thread creator didn't know sheet about Greek Mythology. So, I decided to remake the thread. So, discuss Greek Mythology.

I love Greek Mythology, but I should probably read more about them. I don't know enough to be called a Greek Mythology fan.

I'm planning on taking a Mythology class next semester.

 

It focuses on Greek and Roman mythology the most so I'll learn about it next semester.

 

Right now all I know is Hades is God of the Underworld, Zeus is the head God, Hermes (lolherpes) is the messenger of the Gods and Hydra is a badass, 9-headed serpent thing.

IMO, he's the coolest thing Greek Myths.

 

Kinda like Jormungandr in Norse Myths.

I'm in Latin so...my fave Greek character has always been Prometheus. It's cool that he stole fire from the gods and gave it to man. Sure he was punished but...oh, and there's a book about him.

Why did you put Gods in italics. Prometheus is a Titan, so it's not really that big of a deal.

Not really. It gets easier once you're done with the basics and such. But the immense amount of minor Gods/Goddesses get annoying sometimes.

Greek Mythology lives on today through many modern tales.

 

Stories are adapted from Myth and simply echo the stories and morals.

Many soap opera programs have stuff like this (inbreeding, murder etc)

 

And the supernatural aspect has provided the great thinkers such as Aristotle something to use in arguments and build up support which later evolved into realistic theories.

 

Greek Myth is wonderful, the spontaneity of story, characters and plot etc. It's just so imaginative, even though they were believed to be real God's and characters.

 

I wrote too much, but yeah, a lot of cartoons, comics, movies etc are using Greek Myth as a basis for storylines 'cos it's so good.

I'm self-taught at many subjects, Greek Mythology being one of them. I love all the gore!

Me too. We don't have Mythology at my school, and my parents don't know sheet about it, so I had to buy all of the books and such.

I never said Odin wasn't epic win, I just favor Apollo over Odin. Honestly, I like Greek Mythology more then Norse Mythology. But that just may be because I really don't read Norse Myths.
