Football - why?

[align=center]Irrelevant violence.

Why do opposing football/ soccer teams insist on fighting each other, i.e. verbally abuse them, launch attacks, mock etc.

It's just a game, and it's just some teams.

Also, why do football fans say things like "Our team" or "we" when referring to the team they support, they're not part of it, they just like it. I support music bands, but I'm not in them - plus I don't attack people who don't like my music

I will answer both.

In Football (American) the idea is to intimidate the other players.

And we say "we" because when we play we act as one man.

Happy. ;D

But a lot of crimes at football games are committed by opposing teams =/

They mostly mock and everything to get in their head, confuse, I guess that's a good term for it, them, and get them off their game. However, in football (or at least American football) I don't understand why they try to fight. They're so padded up, it's hard to fight. In hockey, baseball, and other sports, I could see why they fight, they don't have as much padding.

I don't really understand the "out team"/"we" part either. My dad always refer to the Auburn football team (the team he supports in college football) "my boys", despite never going there or any other colleges. I don't really understand that part either.
