Smear
Ohh, I get it.So it is pretty much impossible to add 0.99999999... with itself, so we just call it 1?
CrabHelmet
Ohh' date=' I get it.So it is pretty much impossible to add 0.99999999... with itself, so we just call it 1?[/quote'] Nononono. 0.999... can be added to itself just fine. The result is 1.999.... You're still labouring under the false assumption that 0.999... isn't really 1, that there is some infinitesimal difference between the two that we ignore because it's too difficult to deal with it. That's wrong. There is literally no difference at all. They are the same number written in two different ways. They represent the same element of the set of real numbers. They are equal. Smear
Ohh. So, 0.9999999999999... = 1. I'm only in year 8, so this stuff is confusing.o_O

Guest PikaPerson01
Hmm, the discussion appears just about over here, but I thought this link would be mildly relevant: http://qntm.org/pointnine Think of it as further reading if you still remain unconvinced. Aximil
Unfortunately' date=' YCM is not known for its ability to understand [s']high school math[/s] just about anything, so I don't expect my waffling about the convergent sum of a geometric series to be met with anything more than "me brain hurt",me brain hurtlol, couldn't resist. But I do understand it.pretty much all it does in terms of weirdness is let you divide by zero. This will no longer happen?

I don't understand binary apart from 1=on and 0=off (from Tech lessons) But I'm sure it makes sense somehow.
Theseus
Ah, but you are wrong. Divide a pie into thirds and you have 1/3 which can be converted to an infinite decimal system, that will always come back to one.
