old school yugioh player getting back into it, exodia still good?

Recommended Posts

hey guys, i started yu-gi-oh about 5-6 years ago. and recently got a coupon for a free pack of cards from the shop. i went and got it and i didn't recognize half the cards i pulled, unions, what are the white cards?

i went and asked the shop owner which pack was the newest he told me:

yu-gi-oh 5D's Absolute Power Force

so i cashed the coupon for one of those, i managed to get one of the cards you guys were talking about in this forum. Oilman, which is a union card that allows me to draw cards.

i used to live in japan, played there, then moved here and started even before the starter decks came out (built a deck out of legend of blue-eyes packs)

i quit right around the time when gemini elf and other 1900 atk monsters were the newhot sheet.

i used to have a pretty badass deck from what i was told:

-3 First edition LOB exodia pieces

-and when i felt like it i used the game promotion head or the first edition LOB head

-rageki

-jinzo

-painful choice

-pot of greed

-messenger of peace

typical cookie cutter exodia lockdown deck and won a few tournaments back in the day.

but, winning sucked. one time the guy i ended up beating for first place pulled a mechanical chaser from his tournament pack, :P

i still have all of the cards i listed above,

but about 2 years ago i sold mirror force, injection fairly lily and a few imperial orders and a bunch of other cards i can't be bothered to remember when i decided to buy my ducati.

so what advice do you have for pretty much a "noob" to this sheet again.

is an exodia win still a viable strategy? i remember back when i played a yata guruso was a brand new card that snuck by my lock downs.

what did i miss? alot?

It's only good in Traditional. But there are also tons of other decks in Traditional that are waiting to FTK the hell out of you.

well since i only have 9 cards that are legal in the new 5ds series i think traditional is my format.

you think running exodia in traditional for one tournament then disappearing would prevent people from running anti-exodia decks?

i will provide a decklist tonight

Yugioh doesn't have rotations like Magic the Gathering has. Everything is legal except for the specified banned cards.

You have only nine cards that are not banned? I find that hard to believe.

well here is my deck as i left it in 2004-2005, 90% of these cards cannot be used. i have a whole binder of 'secret rares ultra rares/super rares of that era (close to 300 or so) so i can sell those to fund a new deck.

Yeah... that is a lot of banned cards. Or more copies of unlimited cards than you can use.

My advice: don't run Exodia. It isn't good. Run an easy to use deck that doesn't require too much experience to get the hang of.

well my beat down deck stuff is weak' date=' 3 gemini elves, a few jinzos etc is all i have, these crazy combos i've never heard of would rape me.

since i came from an era where goblin attack force, gemini elves, a summoned skull, bazoo and a summond skull was a tourney winner. (crap now)[hr']

Not sure on the number of Gravity Binds. Pretty sure it's 3 so that's fine. but this would be a Traditional deck if you removed 2 of those Graceful Charities. And it's not limited' date=' it's banned.

[/quote']

they made it limited right before the 2004ish season if i remember correctly which is pretty much what made me quit. they eventually made all of the "staple" cards banned in the 6 years or so i left these cards rot in plastic sleeves

They were bad for the game. They were either too powerful or gave too much generic advantage.

yeah w/ painful choice, the pot of greed, and 3 graceful w/ 3 upstarts in it i could get exodia pretty fast.

most of the staple cards were forcing everyone to run the exact same deck back then, so i was one of the few out here who had exodia.

that was back forever ago though when i was like 15/16.

My Advice for getting back into this game:

By 3 of the new Structure deck and build a deck with it.

Read all of the threads and get a good idea what the meta is like

http://forum.yugiohcardmaker.net/thread-187984.html: This thread should help you

www.yugiohnetwork.com = A free site where you can play online

But the most important advice i can give is to just Play and learn as you go along

you will get better by doing all of this

I use an exodia deck, in the fast milling way

actually its pretty good.

but if you'r making a deck depending on stall/drawing, then it will never be good.

Konami hates stall and strategies, they want everything fast, so stall will never work here.

Well, I don't find draw-based Exodias very consistent. Mill based and Sangan/Emissary ones, on the other hand, have a little more decency to their name.

Mill-Xodia focuses on using Foolish Burial or Armageddon Knight and other such cards to send an Exodia copy to the grave. Then cards like Factory of Mass Production and Dark Eruption can reclaim your Exodia pieces sent to the graveyard. Dark support is handy here.

Emissary Exodia focuses more on searching out the pieces and adding them to your hand. Emissary of the Afterlife allows you to retrieve a Normal Exodia piece, while Sangan can get any of them. Call of the Haunted can bring the two of them out again to search all over again.

Also, one could try to fuse the two builds together to gather the pieces in various ways. For exmaple, you could Armageddon your Sangan to the grave, then CotH it and suicide it into a monster to search out a piece. There's also Exodia Necross, but he's rather bad. It's a shame, as he's the coolest Exodia out there in my opinion.
