Netdecking

Recommended Posts

I always try my best to think for myself when building a deck, which card would help me win without looking at someone elses deck. But the only deck I used that was made by someone else was Empty Jar. Then I turn it into a remove from play Empty Jar and use it for fun. I think since that Gradius deck made it far in the SJC, people will look at Gradius decks now and netdeck it?

Net decking kills originality, i mean pretty much in this day most player are netdecking instead of creating there own strategy or new concepts(specially those that think there professional which there not).

why 2 weeks ago, a friend of mine ask me to be a judge for a local yugioh tournament here since he was short on people and i accept it. When the tournament started i notice to many decks that where almost the same theme except for a few cards but has the same function, except for 1 particular deck that i haven't seen in years, a warriorcaster. the kid had a good run, almost made it third place but had a hard fight against the netdecks along the way. in the end a netdeck won...again since my friend told me already that the netdecks are making competitions not very interesting.

I think most of the fun in collectible card games lies in building your own deck, creating a strategy with the (preferably not too many) cards you own.

On the other hand there seem to be many people who either don't like this creative process or just have to win to have any fun. If they want to netdeck, I can't help it, but I would never do it.

Suum cuique, i guess. ("to each his own", for those who don't understand latin)

netdecking is for noobs.

A skilled player always makes his own deck by himself.

Netdecking is pretty much the backbone of the metagame. So even great players netdeck.

great players are called "great" because they are winning with their netdecked-decks ?

sorry, but I call those noobs who suck at creating competitive decks.

^You're in no position to say that.

Everyone's pretty much said my opinion. :/

You sound like the people who post highlander lists and don't realize that you can have fun with a proper deck without winning too. >____>

I'm positive that at least some of best of the best learn the strategy they win with from somewhere else and didn't actually make it. You can go into techs and things of that nature, but they used an already thought of strategy to win.

Netdecking is like using anabolic steroids. It guarantees good results but you can't do anything really beyond your abilities too much.

The only difference between use of Steroids & Netdecking is that Netdecking goes unpunished. If someone is caught netdecking for a tournament, they should be punished severely. By all means, go and check out winning decklists for the sake of inspiration and strategy but don't copy them card for card.

That's my view on the subject.

That would require proof that they did it on purpose. Thus meaning that finding said information would usually lead to an invasion of privacy. Konami lacks the authority.

Copying a deck wholesale is next to pointless. The extremely cheesy belief in the anime about how decks can't truly be duplicated for the same results is amusingly true. I have tried it before. A friend of mine built a deck and I adapted the deck in its entirety. Yet with little understanding of the deck's concept and little affinity with them in terms of playstyle, the deck was worthless to me.

The same has applied to themes in general. Lightsworn is the most boring decks I've ever tried building. Wins almost all the time, but there is 0 fun in doing it.

What I am more keen on doing is to see a deck type or theme and then try to build a similar deck while using cards that I like more or would just naturally improve the deck. I'm not always successful in building a superior deck, but it's more fun.

Because I lack the resources, this is solely set to online play.

Netdecking is a great idea. You can learn new strategies and creates ones too with the new knowledge, creating a deck based on your own more thought-out concepts.

I find it funny how people say that they do not netdeck, when the direction the game has taken forces people to pick from one of X number of archetypes and mix-n-match them like Mr. Potato Head.

I believe that netdecking is only avoided by throwing all archetypes out the window and making a deck using cards not intended to be used together. The most recent decks to do this were DAD variants, and those are cliched now, and Monarchs. This is just sad.
