Dabir
I've also posted this on lolPojo, and thought I'd get some opinions from what seems to be a more friendly atmosphere. Also lolPojo just lol'd itself into server downtime. IN THE BEGINNING there were cards. Good cards, bad cards, but all just cards. Also Toons. Each card was designed to interact with either monsters, spells or traps, or sometimes more than one of the above. Monster Reborn applied to all monsters, Witch and Sangan applied to all monsters of all types and attributes as long as they had the right atk or def. That sort of thing. After a while of this, as any fule no, people got rather sick of this nonsense and started demanding themes. And Konami duly delivered, bringing us progressively stronger and stronger archetypes of cards designed to work only with other cards of their theme; they had to 'bear the badge' to qualify. And now, people are demanding LESS focus on named archetypes. So where does Konami go from here? I think they've already made up their minds. We've had the generic recruiters for ages, covering all Attributes and a good few Types. We've had themed recruiter and searcher cards, Charge of the Light Brigade being a good example. Each of these applies to only one category, and any other ways you can classify the cards within those categories are irrelevant. However, more recently we've been seeing cards like Jade Knight and Flamvell Firedog. Firedog, though you might at first say 'oh it's for Flamvells', doesn't specifically look for them. Read it again when next you bring out your 'Flamvellsworns', 'Flamvellcat' or whatever deck you decided to tech Firedogs and Magicians into: "1 FIRE monster with 200 or less DEF". Not "1 "Flamvell" monster", although most qualify. Jade Knight, too. Spaceships aren't an archetype, they're just visually themed. Jade Knight (and Falchion Beta) tie them all together by searching out LIGHT Level 4 Machines, which they all qualify for. However, there's a whole host of non-Spaceship cards that can be searched, including a good proportion of Cyber cards and at least 2 Synchrons. Equally, Cyber Eltanin can and should be run in Spaceships, as it only checks Attribute and Type. There's more examples, older ones being things like Dark Eruption, Recurring Nightmare, Swap Frog etc, but those were the two off the top of my head. TL;DR here's the point I'm making: The new direction Konami are, or should be, taking, is support that checks more than one condition against its supported monsters, like Jade Knight and Firedog. This means that not only can the intended archetype be searched by a given support card, but 'looks-like' cards can too.
Dr. Cakey
It's an elegant balance between absolute splashability and no use outside of the archetype, like some sort of marshmallowy mix of CED and JD. Except completely different. I do like this trend, though I'm not sure if it's just a minor epidemic or something that will be continued. For example, when I read Flamvell Paun, I immediately saw its true purpose - Kuriboh-searching.
Anti-Apocryphal
konami can do what it wants- good or bad pictures. Though, whenever i buy a pack of cards, i usually never get anything REAL good, but some cards that will help.
RyanAtlus
Your point? I understand why you're pissed, but there's nothing we can do about it.
Anti-Apocryphal
there's no point, i'm just saying that i don't always get the best cards. but sometimes i will. so, it's worth buying a pack or two every now and then:)
OnSlaUghT
At the rate yugioh is going, we will soon have cards that will seem broken to us, but normal to future players. Either that or the game goes down the bastard
Anti-Apocryphal
it looks like it has a 50/50 chance of surviving
