People cut themselves because of one of the following:

A) They're attention whores.

B) They're insane masochists.

C) They think it makes them look dark and edgy and highlights how gloomy and terrible their life supposedly is.

D) They're stupid depressed people that think wounding yourself with sharp objects fixes your problems.

E) They're on PCP.

Pick your poison.

WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG. WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG. YOU'RE WRONG. YOU'RE WRONG. YOU'RE WRONG. (

You see kids' date=' there is this thing called "Evolutionary responses." Guess what, us humans have PLENTY of them. You know when you see an image of a predator(let's say a tiger). Your body produces chemicals that give you that "flight or fight" stimulation.

[i']But wait, BehindTheMask, what does this have to do with cutting yourself?[/i]

Well, nub, if you didn't interrupt me, I could have told you.

When we feel pain, guess what kiddies, YOU HAVE AN EVOLUTIONARY RESPONSE. When your body feels pain, it releases Serotonin to, this is gonna be a shocker, TO RELIEVE PAIN.

God, I wish I didn't have to be this smart.

People have a whole multitude of reasons why they do it, I do know someone who showed it off when she did it, but hid it from her parents.

I did it because it was a stress reaction, mainly because I was stressed over the situation I was in. I do agree with you BehindTheMask, for me it is probably it part of the Flight instinct, where I haven't been able to get away. Or I've been taken back to a situation which stressed me out before. (Like ended up back at the annoying JobCentre). Although the odd time I had the odd moment where I did it just to see Blood. (I think that explains one of my sick mental reactions to my anti-depressants).

It takes a long time to get over, I've been doing it since I was 15 and although the person who I went to for councilling thinks I'm sorted, I know I'm not.

People react to things differently, and for some people its by self harming.

I seriously doubt every single emo cutter knows that and does it for that reason.

"Ah, I'm so depressed. Imma cause random chemical reactions in mah body."

Well, you see, there is a thing called learned response. When you were young, you probable touched a hot stove(more likely than not). You realized "OH BANANA SAUCE, THAT REALLY REALLY HURTS." Now, if I told you to go touch a hot stove, you'd laugh at me. Why? Because you know it will hurt.

Now, when someone who cuts themselves initially cuts themselves, they can feel the serotonin being released(I know, I've done this before). They realize, "oh snap, this helps me feel better" and thus, continue to do it.
