TAG
It's NOT a democracy. So we're not allowed to have a discussion on a rule that we find unfair? Why not? Why this particular topic? If it were a discussion about a particular American law put into place' date=' it'd be a-okay. But the fact that it's a particular rule of this forum put into place makes it a problem. I'd like to know why (And no "We already explained why." Because you didn't.) Also, Icyblue says it is. Someone has to be wrong here. TAG... What part of' date=' in the end we don't have a choice DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND?! YCM is a democracy, because we choose to let it be; we can just up and say "Follow these rules or Leave the Site" and it wouldn't make a difference. But like all democratic situations, there are parts of it that cannot be changed due to whatever. But a democracy also allows people to speak up against something that they find unfair, regardless of whether or not it is. The fact that you choose to ignore this makes it seem like Resonating Lust is correct in saying that this is not a democracy. Mind you, the communication between the Admins and Mods are not democratic in nature, so if we cannot argue... Why can you? Because we are not the admins around here. We are but lowly forum-goers that discuss topics such as why gelatin looks like jello, what we look like in real life, and what our nightmares are like. We have no power to change the rules. The fact that you are trying to quell this argument makes it seem as if you believe we are a threat (if that's not what it is, then I apologize; it is merely my conclusion). The fact of the matter is we have no power over the rules whatsoever. Only Falling Pizza has the power to change these rules. Seeing as how us complaining about it isn't gonna change a darn thing (unless Falling Pizza is convinced, but that's a different scenario), there is no legitimate reason (at least not one I can think of) that we shouldn't be able to discuss a new rule put into effect. Complaining and debating about rules is a privilege not a right. I'm fairly certain that a standard democracy would beg to differ. Even one as hypocritical as America allows us to argue about whether or not the health care plan is a good idea or proof that Obama is a Nazi. Don't take it away from others because you have too much hot gas.Hot gas? Not at all. I just feel that I as well as every other forum-goer around here, whether they be new or a veteran or a troll, should have a right, if not to make a thread about sandwiches and name it "A thread about doughnuts", then to say that I don't like the fact that I cannot make a thread about sandwiches and name it "A thread about doughnuts". CrabHelmet
They're all stupid' date=' and they're all the result of someone overreacting to something that would normally just make someone go "Grr...." at most. So what this rule basically amounts to is "If your trick makes me have to click the back button, Imma punish you for it."[/quote'] Let me get this straight: your big strong argument against the titles rule is that it prohibits making posts designed solely for the purpose of childishly irritating other users? CinnamonStar
So on every other Internet site, in every stupid country you go, are you sure people always provide an awesome justification for every single rule they put down? But heck we're going to do an exception. And TAG your comparisons weren't that awesome either. It's not the fact that you click on a thread and KOGASA SURPRISE! see it's something different, it's the fact that most of the time, and I say MOST OF THE TIME, it's just trolling and idiotic behaviour, because some of you don't seem to have real lives and need some attention anywhere they go, even in a virtual world. It's not that tricking someone into something gets you punished, it's the trolling and there has been just too much lately on this site.>_> So how about, you guys realize that you're not Che Guevara or Martin Luther or any rebellious guy from the real world and that if you want to complain about a rule you could send each of us a PM instead of trying to do some kind of publish speech everytime?>_> I do think that 40-50% is a bit harsh for this in some cases because there are people who just do it for the fun and not for trolling, and trust me we can see the difference. But does the topic change if you give it a pseudo-clever title? Not really. So why the entire monkey business? And if you're really unable to control your craving impulses and MUST...POST...AWESOME...TITLE O_O because you can or because you want to troll, then why not do it in Games or somewhere? Infinitus
Seriously? Can you not make a name for a thread that relates to the topic? I'm not saying that I think every title should be an exact reflection of the topic, but I think it should have some relation, because then they have a small taste of what it's about, but still have a small curiousity. For example, a thread going against a rule, I think, could have a title like: "Yeah, my school has better rules than this." Sure, with the recent rule, you can easily tell what they are talking about, but for some reason there are a lot of rules that YCM complains about. Well, maybe not rules, but YCM complains about the moderation and rulings of the site more than it needs to. Secondly, if you want to complain about a rule and have it taken seriously, I think it should be done peacefully. PM the mods, with something like:"You know, I think that the recent rule about _____________ isn't a very good rule, and should be changed. I think so because..... Anyway, I hope you consider this message, because I think that this rule needs some looking over. Here are a few reasons why it's a good rule: [spoiler=Reasons]- It's pretty much spamming via a title. It's a statement without any actual relation to the topic, and only used to get people in the thread. - There are reasons why there are titles to threads. So people know what they're clicking when they get into the thread. When mods see a title about pornography, they click it to make sure that they aren't locking a thread that's perfectly acceptable. It's wasting the mods time to click a thread that they think they should lock for the better of the forum, but it turns out their presence wasn't needed, and their time is wasted. A title should reflect the topic, or else there shouldn't be one. - Members want to click a thread and know what the topic is. Let's say an anime fan, who doesn't like to talk about politics, finds a thread called "Let's talk about anime", he clicks it, and finds a topic about politics. It isn't what people often do, but it is something that they could do without this rule. Members want to know what they're clicking. - There are certain types of threads that are allowed, but often lead to flaming, and are often locked if they see that the current point the thread is in could lead to flaming, so they lock it. Name a thread "Best. Pastry. Evar." and it's actually a thread where flaming is going on, and there are no members who would actually want to report the posts. (Because I know there are members who let almost any kind of unruly post slide if they are having fun with it.) Then the rules are broken without acknowledgement. - IT'S. ANNOYING. AS. HELL. If we find a whole bunch of misread titles, and it gets to the point where every thread's title is misleading, and it becomes standard, then all titles lose credability(sp?), and we would have to click every thread to find out what their actual topics are. - If members who let posts slide as long as their having fun are there, which were previously mentioned, then they can hijack the whole thread. You know that members are hardly in certain forums late at night, and that's when they can do it. I remember a real old poll thread that was hijacked by a few members (Who I will have remain anonymous) where every single post they made was a penis reference, and they had this whole joke conversation between the three of them. I'm pretty sure it wasn't even locked before it died. I'm not attempting to be a mini mod here, but I am seriously sick of everyone complaining about the new rule, one that isn't even of the slightest inconvenience. If I am mini modding, I'm sorry, but I am quite annoyed with this.
Dark
I, for one, have not a single problem with the rule, in its basic form. But when abuse knocks upon the rule, I see a problem. Sure, misleading titles are bad. If a thread says "ORANGES" and the thread is about how evil parents are (assuming the story, if provided, does not deal with oranges), it should be locked and will fall under the jurisdiction of this rule. But mods get stupid and power-crazy. Let's take my thread, for example. It said "Gelatin-shaped Jello". Well, when you think of that, I see two things. For one, I see another thread about noun-shaped noun, which is big in General at the moment. I also imagine a piece of Jello. If you imagine the latter, the thread would be misleading. If you imagine the former, however, the thread actually becomes on topic and the title suits it well. The whole purpose of that thread was to make fun of YCM fads, and making a blatantly obvious thread saying "DISCUSS STUPID FADS" is just boring. Sure, it gets the point across, but what if I want someone to think about how the title correlates to the thread? And I just proved it sure as hell does. Basically, if it weren't for the somewhat corrupt moderation, this rule would be no problem, and I'd support it ten billion percent. But when you change the titles of threads that can be argued to not be misleading and warn the TC for making these types of threads, that is just stupid and corrupt. I can assure you that a thread entitled "Greenland" will be locked because the topic was about ice melting, instead of talking about Greenland. Moderators need to understand that although YCM is mainly one giant ball of stupid, some people are clever and like to disguise their threads under cryptic names. But some moderators don't like (or can't) think, and assume a thread is off-topic because the thread title is not mentioned anywhere in the first post. Honestly, it's complete bullshit when you think about it. And whether YCM is a democracy or not, look at it this way: this isn't real life. If a freak rebellion happens, what can YCMaker do? Kill us, like he could in real life? No, not really. The problem with internet forums is that rebellions are a cure-all to problems for the members. If enough people hate or want something enough, just hit the forum with two or three raids and change will happen. Or you guys could continuously take the raids, but probably not. It happened I think thrice in the past where rebellions caused major change in YCM (but it was mostly on moderation).
CinnamonStar
If you think the Internet is a place for rebellions and many of you guys do, then you really need to get a real life. How about, instead of your constant bickering about the "somewhat corrupt moderation team", you start providing examples of corrupt, horrible murder behaviour? Also, not sure if you noticed but the rule hasn't really been put into practice yet... Sure, there's the announcement but has a member been banned/severely punished because of it? No... So how about you guys start taking things as something like a reminder or warning first of all instead of raising havoc and feel like it's invading your Internet life for eternity so the only way is REBELLION ON TEH NET!!! Like someone put it from another forum I'm active in, since YCM and its moderation are apparently the most horrible thing on Internet earth and any other place in the net is better and non-corrupt:There is a difference between just being a bit friendly (kinda of like hitting and tapping, etc.) and being a general prick (starting to insult, continuously trolling, trying to belittle) and we are going to put an end to it now. There's also a difference between all the mods and what kind of punishment they tend to hand out, I've seen that some tend to be harsher and others let minor things pass so really, it's not the end of the world or something.=/ And trust me, most of us are perfectly able to understand what a topic is about and that a Greenland topic about ice-melting will stay even if the title is not mentioned in the first post. And if there's ever a mod who abuses that rule and doesn't think before acting, then how about you PM that mod and sort it out so s/he stops doing it? Also ffs, stop putting yourself like a "clever" person in the midst of "one giant ball of stupid", because I haven't seen that many "clever" posts by you ever since you joined the forum... Dark
If you think the Internet is a place for rebellions and many of you guys do, then you really need to get a real life. I sure as hell don't, I was making a point that rebellions tend to solve everything if angry members exist, and this can be easily proven if we look through the "YCM History Textbook", which doesn't exist, but you get my point. I'm pretty sure you can find examples all throughout the "complaining threads", or whatever you mods call it. "Whining threads", or something to that effect. The community as a whole has given numerous examples of moderator corruption (attempting to dig some up now), you mods have just been too blind to acknowledge it or just pass it off as bullshit. Again, I said rebellion fixes everything, and nothing more. And no, no one has been banned or severely punished. But it gets annoying when a mod unfairly changes the title of your thread. If I was a mod, I sure as hell wouldn't go around editing people's signatures or user titles, unless it was a major infraction of the rules. The harsher mods are what tend to piss us off. Again, if I were a mod, I wouldn't go around randomly changing thread titles because they SEEM TO BE off-topic. If you guys would actually attempt to look for a deeper meaning or a level of crypticism (word?), maybe we wouldn't have such a problem with this rule. And PMing doesn't work, because most of the dumb mods who randomly edit thread titles aren't willing to listen, nor do they really care. I hate to go off on a tangent, but half of the mods either don't do anything or aren't fit to be mods. Or at least the mods I know; I just lurk around General and Multimedia. Also ffs, stop putting yourself like a "clever" person in the midst of "one giant ball of stupid", because I haven't seen that many "clever" posts by you ever since you joined the forum... lulz, I wasn't referring to myself. Blatant assumption, much? And the internet, as a whole society, is one giant ball of stupid. Where does YCM exist? The internet. And from what I've seen and experienced over the past (almost) two years, this website doesn't have the brightest of people.
CinnamonStar
*sigh* I don't want to turn this into another of these dramas on the Internet but at least the last few posts have been a kind of civilized way of discussion. Again, provide me a name and example of corrupt behaviour. And trust me I'm not too stupid to recognize a pseudo-"subtle" thread title and able to recognize "deep, hidden meanings" with a level of crypticism too, actually I'm aware that some of these title issues aren't trolling. Like it was put on that other forum, there's a big difference between trying to be a bit hitting/funny and being a totally moronic troll. And that's what some of you don't seem to notice. We don't go around and edit/lock every single thread that doesn't have the same title and first post, but most of us are able to recognize the gap between slight tapping, messing around a bit and obnoxious trolling. And that's when the rule is put in place, nowhere else. But again, if you know about some mods that don't seem able to see that difference then give examples.x_X lulz' date=' I wasn't referring to myself. Blatant assumption, much?[/quote'] You did show many times that you consider yourself smarter than the "average YCM member" whatever that means so it's not really an assumption. Dark
Okay, so let me do one thing. Let me PM Phantom Roxas about why he changed my thread name from Jelatin-shaped Jello to "Discuss Stupid Fads". Obviously if mods actually understand cryptic thread titles, he won't come up with a legitimate reason. I'm pretty sure anyone who looked at the title for more than two seconds realized that it was framed as a fad thread, but the title is obviously stupid. And that is what I was aiming for. Again, I'm fine with this rule. I'm not fine with mods coming around and changing thread names of something that easily could be ruled as on-topic. <_<
