Welcome to the Rangers! [PG-16][ADV][Started, Not Accepting] - OOC

Recommended Posts
Plot]

"Welcome to 'Nam, boys and girls! I'm your Sergeant, and right now that's all you need to know about me. Let me be the first to congratulate you on your decision on joining the Rangers. You'll find out that that was the best decision you could make here in 'Nam. I hope you've all got enough crap in your heads to keep you alive for your training, because trust me, you will need it!" Looking at the five soldiers that stood before him, the Sergeant shook his head.

It is the year 1969, and the rumors that the War in Vietnam is close to ending has been nulled. As new soldiers who have just been 'shipped' to Vietnam, you immediately sign up for the in-country Ranger training: three weeks of intense drills and calisthenics and six hours a day in a classroom learning protocols, tactics, etc. Now, just as you finish your training, new intel comes in.

A massive NVA fire base has been discovered on the outer reaches of Vietnam. As it happens, there are not enough grunts to send in, so your newly formed squad has been selected to infiltrate and destroy it. You are also told that there is expected to be massive resistance; hundreds of Vietnamese regulars are expected to be defending the base, and patrolling in a ten mile radius. General Pong Tau, and a small squad of personal bodyguards, has also been rumored to be in attendance, and, if possible, you are to capture him.
My Application]

Name: Michael James Stratton

Age: 26

Rank: Staff Sergeant

Role: Team Leader

Main Weapon: M-16
Appearance:] Michael has a large, muscular body; he is six feet, three inches tall, and weighs 200 pounds, which is all muscle. His arms are thick, but not huge, and his legs are likewise. His hands and feet are all in proportion to the rest of his body size, giving him a 'scary-ass' appearance. He has high cheekbones and a sharp chin, giving him a slightly menacing look. His short brown hair, thick eyebrows, and tanned skin only add to his imposing appearance. He has sensitive, deep, dark blue eyes, and a nose bent, showing it was broken in the past.
Personality:] Michael may seem to be a harsh, unforgiving soul at first, but all it takes is a little time and commitment, and anyone could discover the soft interior that resides inside him. He is actually quite a big softy, or at least as soft as a seasoned soldier can be. He will do whatever it takes to keep everybody in his squad alive, no matter what the objectives are; unfortunately, this hasn't always worked out. He is also determined and stubborn, never giving up and never stopping until the objectives are completed.
Biography:] Michael grew up in Boise City, Idaho. Though not many people knew the place, everyone there knew Michael. He was the friendliest, most helpful child in his neighborhood. When he went to school, he found that he loved it, but like something was missing. In middle school, he began to get a small idea what that missing thing was, but he never really knew until high school. In high school, he had a special presentation about World War II by a veteran soldier. It was at that presentation that Michael realized what it was that he was missing: a purpose. So as soon as he could, he packed up his gear, and headed off to military camp. He trained to be a Ranger and a helicopter pilot, and, in the summer of '67, was shipped to Vietnam. There, he was quickly put into a squad. He went on seven missions with that squad, and by the end of the seventh, he was the only remaining soldier from the original squad. He was awarded a Bronze Star, and promoted to Corporal. He continued serving for another eight years, until he was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant, and made the head of his own Ranger team.

Social, you're accepted. Great app, I'll add you to the list.

Magnet, you're not accepted for a few reasons. First, I'm not accepting anything above Corporal rank. Second, this is in Vietnam times, so everyone has '60s weapons. Third, your personality is barely long enough, and your first sentence isn't even a complete sentence. Third, again this is the '60s, and I doubt they accepted anyone who was not under 18. I'm allowing infinite tries with the apps, so if you want to edit, feel free, I won't hold anything against you.

No offense but yeah no desert eagle for you. And also recon intel stealth and infiltrate for the 60's all fit in the "Im a lowlife grunt infantry soldier walking into buildings with a single shot gun trying to get info for...oops, i died" category. Again, no offense, but i got a good laugh outta that.

I agree with Social Slayer. Modern Warfare techniques and technology are exactly that. MODERN. Back in those days, the Armed Forces actually had to fight! I bet you didn't know that, did you?

1) I dont really know ranks, and assumed that leiutenant was bellow Cpl. I'll change to either Lance corparal or Private first class.

2) 60's weapons? The weapons there were used in WWII! I'll change them though.

3) Assassination? Are you kidding me! Assassination isn't modern, how do you think Hitler was killed. He was assassinated. But I'll change, had a different Idea.

4) As said in bio, he was a prodigy, and youngest accepted. Also must have had some good words in by his father.

5) Sorry about the personality. But how is the first line not a sentence?

Changing app almost entirely.

Hitlers death has multiple conspiracies. I disbelieve the assassination, i prefer the "he poisoned himself" story. Lance corp. is a bit higher than should be but i would accept that, and i like your gear alot better now, but i wouldn't consider the M16A1 heavy. Oh well, much better. I also see that mine must be edited.

Better. Just change a few things. Lance Corporal is still too high (I think), so could you please be a Private First Class? Second, as I said, I don't want powerful weapons, and you got a little too modern. I would prefer if you got rid of the LAW, and take the 'A1' off of M16; also get rid of grenades, they're a given.

And your appearance needs to be one line longer.

Yeah, you're fine. And the issue isn't that the LAW is too modern, because I agree that it fits nicely with the time period. I just feel that it is a little too overpowered for this role play. I just thought of something (that I should have put in the beginning) that might help people: a description of Rangers.

Rangers belonged to one company in the Vietnam war, and that was Hotel Company. They usually carried out five-day reconnaissance missions, in five-man teams. Their focus was infiltration: they would sneak into enemy territory, learn about the enemy positions, and sneak back out. Obviously, for this role play I upped the number of people in the team, but we'll still focus on sneaking in quietly, completing the objectives, and sneaking quietly out.
