Appropriateness in art

I'm an artist who draws a lot of pictures of women. I like pushing the limits of appropriateness in one area: nudity. I incorporate subtle erotic elements into my art, but how far does an artist go to make it so it can't be labeled as porn (or hentai/ecchi/fanservice for those who draw anime style?)

Discuss.

A subject that is perfect for me :) My thoughts on the matter is that as long as there is no Nudity then it's a-ok. I love using pics of Girls in Bikini's for my cards as an example.

Who else but J-Max? 8)

This subject reminds me of a saying that my college speech teacher told me that pertained to essays and speeches:

"Treat a (speech/essay) like a miniskirt. It should be long enough to cover what needs to be covered, yet short enough to keep it interesting."

I actually meant in general' date=' not (just) on cards.

Breast is alright as well in my book' date=' but any pussy and its porn

Not exactly. You can't really show Open Nipples and stuff like that. Keep them in a Bra and you can make them as large as you want.

3 of the females I created who are usually nude have mouths for breasts...that shouldn't be so bad.

I also ment in General as well. I am obsessed with Ecchi and Hentai and always aprriciate a well drawn Woman. To be honest the private areas add a little charm to them as well. I would show an example but I would be baned on the spot.

Pm's are there to be used.

Super Mods can read PM's (I should know...) I was found guilty of sharing indecent images a while back)

<3 U J-Max.

Only on YCM...

Anyway,

Personally, in terms of ART, you can go as far as you want to go. Porn is not simply showing a naked woman or w/e, it is also the intention you had when drawing this picture. Was it to present your artistic abilities, or was it for, well, porn.

Just my opinion on artz.

I remember that. Too bad the Drift Project will forever remain a mystery to most, eh?

I draw hentai XD I'm not good with hands though and that's a problem. It's okay as the down there area isn't shown and nipples aren't shown either. Upskirt is fine too as long as the panties aren't too tight or it'll show too much detail. Example: Yu-Gi-Oh chapter 1 manga novels. Yugi dreams of her skirt from down there.

Sorry, but I flat out delete cards with that is anything but tasteful. However, yours has remained it. So we haven't but heads yet.

Also, it is considered porn when nudity is shown and it contains some kind of Sexuality within it. Otherwise it is merely a distasteful suggestive thing that can be seen as inappropriate.

EDIT: I myself have been trying to practice in Tasteful Nude Art. To some success, but little motivation.

EDIT2: Upskirts or Sexual Innuendo's ARE NOT fine. Those are not considered in good taste and still contain sexual well yeah. One must be subtle and make such things appear natural. Such as Mr Manhattan from The Watchmen.

Ha. Haha.

Being raised as an art appreciator as I am, I've seen many nude images of women and men all together on a canvas. My dad is an art collector, he's been collecting since the age of 16, and my house is flooded with art peices. Like a museum. Of course, we have one nude image of a women by Roy Lichtenstein, who does "comic strip" art and produces romance within them. However, I was raised more maturely in which this painting never put me off or never did I feel it was wrong to have in my house. Art is art.

However, when I see a painting drawn or painted with an image of sex (I wouldn't call art porn), I, like many others, will look away to the next one. I don't know what people see in art that portrays these things that are so secretive to people. You don't draw out you having sex, nor do you paint an image of someone you know having sex, so in the end, it's rather disgusting.

Luckily, those painting are usually from forever ago, where people were just finding out about the human body and what not, where they wanted to paint it all together.

Even my favorite artist, Takashi Murakami, portrays anime-like characters facing the more sexual fact of the body.

I'm not one to believe in censorship (can anyone say left-wing?), so I don't really think anything is "pushing it" when it comes to nudity in art. If you are serious and passionate about what you draw, you shouldn't have any restrictions or guidelines as to what you can and cannot draw.

This may be me but I simply hate artsy people who draw nudity and call themselves artists and say things like "art has no boundaries".

We all know you drew a pussy cause you like porn.

LOL.

I actually don't like porn. It's boring and I don't see why it's so interesting.

Some of the tokusatsu/power ranger-esque characters I've created have suits designed with "nipples." One of my facebook friends called them sparkplugs lol. I guess I like drawing girls with erotic-like designs because I can break out of my shell and break convention of character design. I never draw attention to the genitalia, even if it is present, which is the case with four of my characters, 3 female and 1 male.
