How do Gladiator Beast work?

Recommended Posts

Almost all Gladiator Beasts have the effect, "At the end of the Battle Phase, if this card attacked or was attacked, you can return it to the Deck to Special Summon 1 "Gladiator Beast" monster from your Deck, except "Gladiator Beast "."

Most Glads have effects that are only activated or applied if they are Special Summoned by the effect of a Gladiator Beast, and are unimpressive monsters without their effects. Once you get one or two Glads out, you can basically keep on trading them in and out for control with Bestiari, Murmillo, or Retiari, beatdown with Laquari, speed with Samnite or Torax, or recovery with Darius and Equeste.

Glads have a heavy reliance on Spells that support them, like the lovely draw 3 Gladiator Beast's Respite. They also have some Equip Spells, one of which (Gladiator Beast's Battle Manica) is rather exceptional. They also have their own recyclable Waboku (Defensive Tactics) and their own RotA (Gladiator Proving Ground). Gladiator Beast's War Chariot is another must-have.

Last but not least, Gladiator Beasts very much rely on their 3 Fusions (or rather, 2 of them), which do not require Polymerization. Gladiator Beast Heraklinos can negate any Spell or Trap with a discard, and Gladiator Beast Gyzarus destroys up to 2 cards upon his summon.
