Tronta
so i've seen maybe 3 episodes of GX and they all blow hard. it's a funking stupid, gimmicky show that needed to die from episode one. but it occurs to me just how much potential this show had. to elaborate:what if they made a show based around a gort going to a school for dueling, where they actually TAUGHT HIM HOW TO DUEL. i don't mean that rulebook bullshit like "lols this is how you advance tribute summon a monster". i mean what if they actually had classes pertaining to the game's more difficult aspects, and what if by watching the show, you actually became a better player? they could have a class that evaluates the meta and why it's good, they could have a class structured toward building consistent OTK's, they could have a class about teaching advantage counting, they could have a class about just evaluating individual card worth. i see a lot of potential here. the meta class could include real decklists from real players and breakdowns on them. maybe even guest appearances? the OTK class could be taught by yours truly :P the whole purpose would be to count probability of achieving an otk in a given deck and calculate the consistency of it in an attempt to build a perfectly consistent ftk deck. the individual card/archetype class could be an open debate class. no funking floating kuriboh, no heart of the cards, no staged duels, no egyptian gods, no fake cards. you can keep the hair and you can keep the projections but that's about it. point is, i think it would be interesting if you actually learned how to play at an advanced level from this show. thoughts? RyanAtlus
I think you're just trolling. But what about history? The game's been evolving for almost 10 years now, and loads of interesting Decks and cards have come and gone.

The non-competetive noobs would still think card [X] isnt banned because "there friend who doesnt watch the show uses it". And depending on how long the show lasts(episode-count wise), it might end up going through at least 2 banlists. And as you know, the idiots the nooby kids the viewers would be a little confused by that aspect.

One: That would be really really ****ing boring. Two: The show would only last about 10 episodes since there's not even that much material to cover. Three: All information presented would be outdated after the next banlist change. Not to mention the time it cost to animate and dub would make it more outdated. If issue three would cover issue two, then it would just amplify issue one. tl;dr- Terrible, next?

Umbra
It would be like one of those high school animes, but it would actually show people studying. In other words, it would suck. GX already sucks compared to the other series, but this sucks in a completely different way. It sucks so differently that it actually blows. -Griffin
TBH, I wouldn't mind Tronta's idea if it was pulled off well and still had developed characters/a plot instead of just reading articles about the game or something.

OT: GX wasn't as bad as people say. It had entertainment value despite the crappy plot. The first 2 seasons were dry, and season 3 started to feel like yugioh. Still bad. The comic book series just had good art and cards, and nothing more. YCM is Duel Academy. Except YCM makes sense. EDIT: The GX era for the OCG/TCG was kind of the dark ages with crap card after crap card. The 5D's era made many of them useful.

evilfusion
Before I launch into a small tirade, I will admit that GX is easily the worst of the 3 series. [spoiler=small tirade]First, you admit you watched like 3 episodes and decide you hate it. That's fine. Your idea regarding its "potential" is absurd. I actually, when I first heard about GX, thought your idea was actually the premise. I thought it was the stupidest idea I had ever heard regarding the Yugioh anime. I refused to even give the show a shot and, while I didn't condemn it as sheet, I didn't have an intention to watch it. I eventually gave it a shot, and for the most part, I found it okay. Definitely not the most brilliant show I've ever seen, but at least tolerable and at least worth watching. You can't judge an entire show based on a few early episodes the same way you can't judge a book by the first few pages. Nevertheless, this does not stop people from abandoning something early into its run. The biggest problem with the show is that, unlike the original, they literally put a duel in EVERY SINGLE EPISODE. That's normally not a bad thing, considering the premise of the series is dueling. However, they give the main character a good 99% of the duels and his deck almost never changes. He runs Elemental Heroes. Keep in mind, at the time of the series' run, Eheroes had just been released. They never were a brilliant archetype, but they were far better then than they are now. A hell of a lot better than they are now. Now, there are a number of flaws in the duel-in-every-episode thing. Eventually, the writers need to find a reason to HAVE a duel, even in a setting where you have over a hundred duelists in one place. Also, there needs to be a reason to produce stakes in the duel so that it's not pointless. The later seasons are better than early first season, special mention to the 3rd season, which is probably the best of them in terms of darkness and seriousness. However, I've always despised one aspect of GX. Jaden/Judai's deck is lucksacky and horribly unsynergetic and more than half his cards are utterly worthless, both in-show and in RL. That makes his consistent winning infuriating at the best of times. His attitude and personality also annoys me to no end, because even in life-threatening situations, he shrugs most of the stress off (until season 3, and by season 4, he's almost emo because of season 3). Most characters end up being thrown into the background as the show goes on, and the premise of a dueling high-school loses really all its significance. GX, like the original Yugioh, takes way too many liberties with the rules. 5Ds was similar to GX in that I wasn't interested in it, but like GX I gave it a shot and I almost consider it the BEST of the series. The characters are good, the tone is good, the premise is a cross of ridiculously cool and stupid, making it rather good. The rules are MUCH better defined and consistent, and although lucksacky wins occur, Yusei's deck is much more synergetic and not utter, utter crap like Jaden's. Plus, Yusei isn't a stupid kid going "Yay! Dueling's for fun!" when people are supposed to die when the duel ends. tl;dr: Shows based too much on "real life" or realism is boring as s***. Although GX isn't a pinnacle of Yugioh premises, it at least knows how to raise stakes so the show isn't dull.

Guest Delinquent Girl NiAtSoFi
Regarding the cards... Both Yugi and Jaden's decks are absolute garbage. At least Jaden had a theme...until season 2. My brother actually told me that a lolYugi could work with the right cards...he also bellyached that the Neo-Spacians were supposed to work with Heroes, but aren't working for him. Of course, he runs ALL of both sets of monsters in his deck @1 each. Regarding the shows/characters... I liked Jaden's character over Yugi. Unlike Yugi, Jaden's character evolves each season from a carefree teenager to a hero. We see this in Yugi, but not as clearly until the last season. GX had plenty of character development not seen in the other 2 shows.
