It could be like some version of YVD/DMG, duelists dueling online all over the world and whatnot. And the main villains are computer nerds disguised as badasses online who have had it with the staff and decide to nuke/hack the game and it somehow escalates to destroying the world's internet connection for some odd reason. So some regular members must pull together and stop them before people without lives suddenly commit suicide with a lack of things to do.
