EliminateHRN
I really need some good advice on this subject. I have always bit my fingernails, but the last few days it has gotten worse. When I'm just sitting around doing nothing, I'll bite my fingernails without me really noticing. Like I said, its been getting worse lately; earlier today when me and my family went to watch Eclipse, I bit my fingernails to the point of them bleeding (which has never ever happened before). And just now while I played my PlayStation, I also bit my fingernails to the point of them aching, but they haven't bleed yet. My family always stop me if they see me biting them, but when I'm alone, I hardly don't even notice me biting them until they start to hurt. Anyway, I was wondering, does anyone have any good tips on how to stop biting yourfingernails? I really want to stop, but it seems like I just can't. Any advice? Thanks. Sorry if this isn't allowed. -Athena-
You should really try to stop before you get any older. Then it becomes a really bad habit. I used to bite my nails then I stopped. How? Well, I trim them often so I have nothing to bite. This might sound really stupid here but maybe if you rub something spicy on your fingernails, you will realize when you're biting it. Or put on bandages, that could prevent you from biting. And I'm sorry if my suggestions are stupid (cause I know they are). P.S- how can you play PlayStation and bite your nail at the same time? EliminateHRN
I know I should stop. One of my family members (who's in her late thirties) just stopped biting her fingernails and she said it was really hard to stop after getting old. My parents always told me to put something on my fingernails so I know when I'm biting them. The bandage idea also seems like a good idea. Thanks for the advice, I'll see if any of them works for me. Also, I have no idea how I play and bite them at the same time. It's usually when it's loading though.

Dark
Tie your hands behind your back. It seems stupid, but after a day of not biting your fingernails, your habit will be broken.

Today, I'm trying to not bite them without help. If I can't do it, I'll put something on them and see if that helps. Also, Dark, how am I supposed to play video games with my hands tied behind my back?

Wuu.
You're going to get cancer' date=' bruh. D:[/quote'] ...Huh? By biting nails you get alot of creatine(or whatever the f*** it is called) and it highers the chance of getting cancer.
Kitty
I have the same problem as you about biting my nails and all when I'm alone and bored and all. I suggest you always have gum on hand because it helps. When you even find yourself wanting to bite your fingernails just chew gum.
Death Metal
I did the exact same thing for the majority of my life. I didn't really use any fancy tricks to stop though... I just stopped doing it.

My mom and sister always need to have gum (they just like it), so I should be able to find a few pieces of gum some where. So far I haven't bit my fingernails at all today. Thanks for the advice guys.
Cin
You can actually buy something to go on it that tastes very foul I did it once. For a girl its easier, I put nail polish on and that's stops me until it comes off.

Even one of my family members told me to do that. Yeah, it seems easier for a girl. My sister used to bite her fingernails, but as she got older she was able to stop without any help. Guest Merciful Idiot
Play a Sony/Sega/Nintendo game that requires you to use your hands at all times. Continue playing it until your hands get used to not letting your mouth bite them. Granted, you might get addicted and become a maniac, but hey, it's the result that counts, right?
