John A. Zoidberg
It seems that whenever I go on YCM, if I run a scan afterwards, my computer has a tracking cookie on it. Is this supposed to happen?
Catterjune
It happens anywhere on the internet IIRC.
John A. Zoidberg
Ah. I'm not very "internet experiences" so, should I even bother to remove the tracking cookies or do they not harm my computer in any way? Because I've had MAJOR problems with viruses and would rather not go through them again any time soon.

I've got a bloody Antimalware Doctor virus at the moment and I'm waiting to renew my subscription to Norton.
Grunt Issun
I unce got a virus, on this very computer, It would shut down every minute, my solution? NUKE IT AT THE SOURCE! wipe the hard drive
Legokun
How sad. Had to do that more times than i can count. It's even worse next door. My uncle gets a virus and nukes it like, every 5 minutes! Hardly joking. Not every 5 minutes, like every other 5 minutes. But you get the point. John A. Zoidberg
Yeah. I've nuked it 3-4 times before and I've only had this computer for a year or so. It's a pain with my iPod. But anyways, are tracking cookies dangerous or does it matter whether or not they're on here or not. And I just god rid of Norton for Avast, but that's just because Avast is free, and I'm a cheap little b******.

Dark
Basically, for forums like YCM, cookies save your data from the forum. It's hard to explain, but I'll give some example. On the main forum page, you see pluses and minuses. If you hit them, forums (or forum sections, rather) appear or disappear. Those settings are then saved in a cookie, which is stored on your computer. As long as that cookie still exists, the next time you come onto YCM, those same forums will appear or be hidden. Same goes for usernames/passwords, posts per page settings, et cetera. Generally it's good to have cookies for forums, but for other websites they usually aren't necessary. From my experience, as long as you are not going on "unsafe" sites, cookies do not harm your computer in any way.

I only really go on facebook, youtube, YCM, photobucket, and wikipedia (if I need to research), so I'm not really in any danger, I guess.

John A. Zoidberg
I'm just saying. I really didn't think that was funny. Plus it seemed like you were attempting to call me an idiot. I was just asking what tracking cookies were.
