The best damn war ever!

I loved how FDR led the U.S. through WWII. He quickly used the United State's massive industrial and economic power to defeat the German War Machine, with the help of Churchill and De Gaull of course.

All the while Stalin was still recovering from the Russian/Japanese war.

AND THEY STILL DID 80% OF THE NAZI ASS KICKING!

Stalin did not kick butt. In fact, Hitler was kicking his butt so bad that Stalin was struggling just to defend Russia. It was only the increadible size of the country that kept Stalin from being defeated. It was only until he joined the Allied Forces that he stood a chance with the help of the United States, United Kingdom, and French 5th Republic.

He's mostly praised because right after he became President, the government basically said, "Here are these two super-powerful high-tech bombs that can end the war right now at the cost of a few thousand Japanese civilians; would you like to drop them, Mr. President?"

Especially considering Truman had never previously known about the atomic bombs, that was a lot of pressure on a guy that just got into office. However, it's true that he didn't really do anything important after that, so he wasn't really that great of a President. Americans were just glad that he ended the war quickly.

Jack Churchill is the only recorded person to score a kill in WW2 with a longbow. He also took a claymore sword and bagpipes into every battle and remarked that any officer without a sword is improperly dressed. By sneaking around a German camp, he took around thirty men hostage almost single-handedly with just his sword. After being captured (he was captured while standing in the middle of a battlefield, the last survivor of his squad, playing bagpipes) he dug a tunnel out of the camp they put him into. They then recaptured him and he escaped again, walking over 100 miles to get to Italy.

Most awesome person of the war, IMO. Even won a Badass of the Week page: http://www.badassoftheweek.com/churchill.html

A few thousand people? You mean a few hundred thousand people, right? 140 000 deaths were estimated in Hiroshima and another 70 000 in Nagasaki.

I can underdstand the reason behind Hiroshima (to end the war itself), but even then, it wasn't necessary. The Japanese were already defeated and they wanted to sign the peace treatey. Let's say that there was the need to bomb Hiroshima, but think of this. Was there ever a reason to bomb Nagasaki? The Japanese were already devastated from the Hiroshima incident, why attack them even more when they are willing to give up?

The goverment leaders did it only to play out their new toys.

You don't mess with the soviets:). Hitler was a Scheissekopf, and that's all there is too it. He was a terrible leader and destroyed Germany. World War two was only an extension to World War One, Germany wanted revenge.

All that needs to be said.
