Hello, my name is Scyire. I have been a member of this forum for over a year, and I've seen many people come and go. Of course, people who came in 2007 or before could probably make this better than I can, but I don't really care. I'm fairly sure that I look like I've been here for awhile, and I'd like to share what I've learned with you.

If you get featured in this thread for a bad reason, I don't give a f***. Complain all you want.

The Avatar.

No, not the main character in the popular series, Avatar the Last Airbender, this is an 100x100 .img, .gif, .bmp or .png that should show something about you. It should be what you look like, or what anime/manga you listen to. It can also make you look like a fool.

Here are some examples of bad avatars.

I don't know what this is. Is it some sort of abstract image, or something?

Random warrior thing is random. I don't know what it's from, and it looks stupid.

Once again, I don't know. Some Naruto symbol, or what?

Here are some nice looking avatars, that show in some way, originality and character.

A plain picture of a character from an anime with grass in the background. That is all that is needed for a successful avatar.

It shows that she is a fan of anime, and female. Good enough for me.

A well made, standard avatar made by some pro. Obviously successful.

Final statement on Avatars-
As long as you have a decent to good looking avatar, you're fine. Avatars do not matter that much. It's just a way of reflecting you're personality towards fellow users.
Here are some helpful tips with avatars.
1. Change your avatar roughly every two weeks. It helps to refresh your look.
2. In my opinion, do not use any Naruto, Bleach or especially any with memes in them. Meme avatars are the worst. Not funny at all.
3. The best thing you can do with an avatar is to find an anime/manga with a character that you like, and find a good avatar of the character and use it. No going wrong there.

Avatars should be a reflection of a person's personality. It shouldn't be limited to something like anime/manga characters (I am kinda getting that vibe from this thread, seeing as all the good examples are anime characters. Not sure if that was intentional or not). Avatars should also reflect things like personal beliefs, taste in fashion, ect.

In the end it comes down to personal taste. They uploaded that avatar because they like it, that is all that should matter. I am not trying to belittle this thread or anything because it helps members become (or appear as) a better, more experienced forum goer. I'm just saying that these standards need to be expanded.

or perhaps that is what this thread is about and I am missing a point. xD

I understand what you are saying, Death Metal, and completely agree with you. I agree that what your avatar is should reflect most about your personality, and not just anime characters. The examples were unintentionally all anime characters. They were the only nice avatars I could find while skimming the forums for ~10 minutes.
Thanks for your imput. I'm frankly relieved that someone actually read this. I'll work on what you said, and revise what I have so far.

Yes, but your signature is rendering me blind.

Oh, on the note of my avatar, I just put it because it's better than my real face plus I like the character.

OT: Pretty good tut. Add how MyBannerMaker.com's sigs are horrid to the siggy part.
