Noxious Lamenter (Fun with Spell Speeds)

Recommended Posts

I've never seen a card that specifically deals with spell speeds, so I thought I'd make one.

I'll say it right here since people seem to be getting the wrong idea: these cards have nothing to do with 5d's, Spell Speeds are not the same as Speed Spells. Every card effect has a Spell Spell of either 1, 2, or 3. Click the links and be educated.

Lore: Card effects with a Spell Speed of 2 or higher cannot be activated, except the effect of this card. During either player's turn, you can pay 1000 Life Points to activate a card effect with a Spell Speed of 1 as if it were an effect with a Spell Speed of 2. Cards used in this way can be played from your hand.

New card added!

Lore: When your opponent activates a card effect with a Spell Speed of 2 or higher, you can negate it's effect and Special Summon this card from your hand. You can Tribute this card to Special Summon 1 "Noxious Lamenter" from your hand or Graveyard.

im so confused,

Spell speeds are a more complex aspect of Yugioh. Every card effect has a spell speed. A card effect with a Spell Speed of 1 would be a normal Spell card. A spell speed of 2 would be a trap or quick-play spell. A spell speed of 3 would be a counter trap card. Cards with a spell spedd of 2 can be be activated in response to a card with a spell speed of 1 or 2. Cards with a spell speed of 3 can be activated in response to a card with a spell speed of 1, 2 or 3. Monster effects also have Spell Speeds.

Example:

I activate "Heavy Storm" (Spell Speed 1) to destroy all Spell/Traps on the field.
Opponent responds by play "Threatening Roar" (Spell Speed 2). It is resolved first since it has a higher spell speed, preventing attacks this turn.
I respond by playing "Seven Tool of the Bandit" (Spell Speed 3). It resolves before "Threatening Roar," negating it and destroying it. "Heavy Storm"s effect now takes place, destroying all spells/traps on the field.

I have a feeling that none of that helped you at all...

"Spell Speed", not "Speed Spell".

Care to rate and/or comment? It'd be much appreciated.

Well, this first effect is good: It basically negates Traps, Quick-Plays and some Monster effects.
I find the second effect, however, a bit pointless, but that's because I cannot find any use for it: You cannot use the effect for "countering" a Spell-Speed-1 card your opponent may activate because you can only activate the effect of "Noxious Lamenter" during your turn AND in the first place Spell-Speed-1 cards were not designed to work at higher speeds, so most of them won't gain any benefit from having an Spell Speed of 2 or 3. Or at least I cannot think if any good example of a card benefiting from it.

If you got any examples of good uses for the last effect, it would be great if you posted them.

oh ok, just like spell/trap chaining i guess
Pretty much. You can only chain with an effect that has a spell speed equal to or greater than the last played, the exception being an effect with a spell speed of 1, which can only be chained be an effect with a spell speed of 2 or 3. 2 and 3 chains 1 and 2, and 3 chains all spell speeds. That's about as simple as I can make it without showing you a physical example, but that's not really an option here O_o

Thanks for your comment.

Thinking about it, you make a lot of sense. I think I'll eliminate the "Once per turn" effect and make it immune to it's own effect, since it would then be a higher spell speed itself. I think I was going for playing cards like "Lightning Vortex" or "Monster Reborn" as if they were traps, or even cards like "Polymerization."

Updated effect. Comments anyone?

It looks better, but you could add a "During either player's turn" clause to the second effect so you will be able to respond to your opponent's cards. Also, you need to specify from where you can activate the effects: from your hand, field or both?

Names: Very good, Fairly original 9/10
Pics: Great, but im guessing kinda limited ;p 9/10
OCG/Grammer: Looks fine to me....
Effects: Im not completely sure what spell speed is.... I dont watch 5ds really so..... But if im remembering it right then this seems pretty good..... I like it at least ^_^
Balance: Mabey tone down Lamenters ATK a bit. It can be special Summoned pretty easily considering how much ATK it has.... But its fine either way
The little Extras: Everything but edition is there~
Overall id say a B Good but not my cup of tea, I cant really say how good these are because im not 100% Sure about the effects and i personally think its a bit OPed.....
But still above average and considering your ranks ATM This is great. Well above most of your peers.

:P I wasnt gonna rep you for the cards (I only give reps to "A's") But the cards coupled with an awesome bump saying=Rep ;D

Thanks!

Every card effect has a Spell Speed, it talks about them in the rulebook. It actually doesn't have much to do with 5d's, Spell Speeds have been around since the beginning.

Here are the three Spell Speeds:

Spell Speed 2
Spell Speed 3

Glad to educate you~

Bump.

This made me think back to a set made on ycm revolving around spell speeds. Just cant think of you wouldve made it back then, and if itll still be on here but dont think it wouldve. Anyways I think with the changes made theyre very nicely made cards. I like the pics but unsure of how the names, pics, and effects all link together. Maybe you can shed some light on that for me?

Honestly, I can't remember there ever being a link between the pics/names to the card effects. They just seemed cool, so I went with that. My Crusher Destroyer card makes more sense in that respect, but I think these were just a because-they-sounded/looked-good-type of deal.
