ive loved most of the weird tech prog experimemtal avant-garde"whatever the funk you call it" death metal bands youve shared with me but ive gotta go with Tenta on this one...those vocals just sound too ridiculous, i actually laughed during some of the parts, also the song title is very off-putting

So this post isn't spam here's some Be'lakor. 

 

Demilich is actually awesome. The music was darn unique for 1993 and the vocals, while seeming a bit silly at first, are really difficult to emulate.  

 

I'm not huge on melodeath except for a few exceptions but Be'lakor wasn't bad...just not particularly interesting to me.  

 

The latest Panopticon album has some melodeath influence, though they are a black metal band on the whole.

The demo version of the song is just called "Embalmed Beauty Sleep", but they said they raped the music on the album version, hence the title. There is no rape depicted in the lyrics.

I haven't been listening to much emo lately but I'm sure I'll hit the phase again eventually. I saw Foxing open for Brand New, they were good though I'm not really a fan of the band.

Extol is always good with me, Foxing are great to me, they give me the feels that i like to get and also i wanna murder you for getting the chance to see them. i enjoy a lot of Emo whether its the newer stuff (Foxing, Tigers Jaw, Empire! Empire!, Pity Sex, Snowing etc.) or the older stuff (Elliott, Mineral, The Promise Ring, Sunny Day Real Estate, Engine Down etc.), id probably say that i prefer the older stuff but both are great to me.

Becoming the Archetype used to be pretty rad. Their debut Terminate Damnation was an awesome progressive death metal album with slight hints of hardcore. Unfortunately, they got worse with each album in my opinion, lots of line-up changes led to no original members remaining in the band and their sound changed for the worse. I'll let you decide though, check out their albums in order. 

 

I'm not into Living Sacrifice too much anymore but they've done some cool stuff, most recently groove/death metal. Their very early stuff was kind of like Slayer. The Hammering Process and Conceived In Fire are some of the best.

Let's hope they actually do this year! There have been rumors of a new album for a few years now but I think it may be for real this time.

id say its pretty real this time, hopefully Brand New wont pull a Glassjaw on us, that would suck, really wondering what theyll be coming up with this time, Daisy was such a dark and distinct album

Daisy is probably my favorite Brand New to be honest. I'm really interested in how they'll be developing their sound though. I hope Jesse and Vinny split the songwriting like last time.

id say that Daisy is my second favorite. nothing can top off The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me.

 

also with that Pyrrhon stuff, i have no idea what i had just heard but i like it, whatever it was.

 

 

and finally Opeth are doing...something this year i dunno its too soon for an album release and i doubt that a tour would be this big of a deal

i think id be okay without them doing Metal if they did some stuff thats actually interesting and not just 70s Prog Rock worship with some modern flare being slapped onto it, id actually be pretty upset if they played straight Death Metal instead of Prog Death

 

personally i dont mind their non-Metal stuff, i think that Pale Communions and Heritage are both okay albums but definitely the worst albums Opeth have ever came out with so far.

 

 

on other news Will Haven are getting some stuff out this year too

agreed, Opeth are at their best when theyre experimenting with dynamics and pushing the boundaries between Prog and Death Metal, id be okay with a Death Metal sound just so long as they still play a more Progressive/Technical sound

Also, could anyone suggest any good Doom Metal bands, similar stuff to Estatic Fear or something?

for me Ghost Reveries, Watershed and Still Life are the albums that make Opeth

 

i dont really listen to much Doom Metal so i camt recommend something similar to that band, though Boris are a great Japanese experimental band with some minor Doom elements in them. Amplifier Worship, Feedbacker and Noise are their greatest works, though each of their albums are great and unique in their own way.

I love all Opeths stuff, and I really liked Heritage.

 

Bongripper, Sleep, early Peaceville Three (Anathema, My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost), Burning Witch, and Electric Wizard are good Doom Metal bands.

Extol's Synergy is really good but it's more death/thrash than their early stuff, and I remember The Blueprint Dives being really weird.
