Εϝολυτιον
I didn't see a topic about Terraforming yet, so sorry if there is one. For you people who don't know what it is, Terraforming, which is literally "Earth-forming", is a process where a planet, moon, or other heavenly body's atmosphere, temperature, surface topography or ecology is modified to make it similar to Earth's. Basically, they're changing that planet/moon/other heavenly body to Earth. This will make that body inhabitable for living creatures. This concept was first brought up around 1942, but the idea was around for years before it. People believe Mars is the most likely candidate for the process of Terraforming. This is because Mars is believed to be a lot like Earth, from its length of days/years/etc. to its axial tilt. Other possibilities are Venus and Europa which is a moon of Jupiter. So, YCM, do you think Terraforming will ever happen? Will scientists ever be able to "transform" another planet to Earth? How do you think, if it ever becomes reality, it will affect human life? Discuss about Terraforming.
Death Metal
I'm sure it'll be possible in the distant future. and I'm sure just living on a planet that isn't Earth would affect us in many ways. ;p

However, since scientists have been discussing this stuff for years and with new discoveries almost everyday, who knows? My friend and I was talking about this and he said he read a lot of people believe in 2012, but doesn't think it'll end the world, but believe it'll start a new age in human life. He said we could move to another planet, thus "starting a new age in human life". Who knows, it could happen.

I read a blog post that said if we ever did move planets, we could erase all of our problems with did on Earth. I laughed out loud at that. Not sure why, but I did. They have a number of pictures which is Venus Terraformed.

Great Unclean One: VK
Terraforming shall be done in the far future. In the Earth's current state, terraforming will never happen and the very idea of it happening soon is like saying that Muska and I will be married. It will probably start happening when there is a united goal and a major interest in it. Possibly in a thousand years to set up the technology and plan. Then centuries to make it happen. Tentacruel
Terraforming is almost completely logically impossible, unless of course someone would like to explain to me how it would be hypothetically achieved.
Great Unclean One: VK
Terraforming is highly complex. Let's say a planet is high in carbon dioxide, and the soil has traces of phoporus. I suppose you could always scop up same of the dirt, test it and see if it could support life. If it could, then you have to check on the gravity of the planet. If it's like ours, go planet and throw in some water time to time. Then bam, the plants start being oxygen factories while slowly changing the world. Sadly, this is my guess and I'm not to knowledgable in this field.

Εϝολυτιον
From what I read, Terraforming is a process which takes a while. Maybe centuries as VK said. But from I understand, you put breathable oxygen in the atmosphere, add water, and the like which will slowly transform that planet into Earth. I saw pictures of what artists think the planets will look like "Terraformed", but I lost them. I guess the process also involved building buildings and house and such. You can't just put people on a planet without buildings. I guess getting the people to the planet is also a thing to consider. Yeah, it'll probably take centuries. [/quote] That would throw off some plants and people. We'd have to make sure we put in plants that are able to survive the temperature, like I doubt a plant that hates cold would be able to move off of Earth. Also, there's plenty of other factors that makes Earth a survivable planted. Tilt on the axis, speed of rotation, amount of certain gasses in the air (not just Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide), and plenty of other things I can't think of atm. Azphreal
What bother about terraforming yet? Earth's not screwed for another couple of billion years, and then we'll have to redo our 'forming in this solar system anyway when the sun expands. Anyway, not in most of our life-times. Need to factor in the planet's current atmosphere, temperature, terrain state/composition, distance from the sun, size, magnetic field and alignment, etc. Venus is out of the question to begin with. Can't get down there, can't do nothin' to it. Jupiter's moon's too far off to support our life as well.
