I have a 6.50AM train to get from Glasgow to Newcastle so decide not to sleep and load up on Energy Drink and Chocolate next day.
3 Hours on train later and I'm in a hotel conference room with loads of yugi players who 1: Overvalue all their stuff and undervalue my stuff, 2: Cannot and Will not be talked down on prices/values and 3: Go out of their way to get in the middle of everyone elses trades to make everything more difficult for me D=

Round 1: Frog Monarch (This guy also topped the event)
I open with an OTK hand and end up with something stupid like 4 Synchros, 1 Haipa and 7 cards in hand. He battle faders but is unable to capitalize fully. Does some tricks involving enemy controller and eventually manages to get shooting star dragon out. Game took 35 minutes but I eventually won when he ran out of battle faders while I was able to draw like 3 cards every turn.
While siding time on the round is called so we finish siding and he choses to go first giving me the final turn. I end up winning with psychic commander for game the turn after he had to caius itself just to get his life higher than mine.

Round 2: Crystal Beasts
Game 1 I start with Machina Gearframe > Fortress then equip Gearframe to end the turn. He uses MST to kill gearframe then creature swaps his carbuncle with my fortress who attacks and I choose to put carbuncle into my zone. A quick ruling from the judge clarified that I could in fact do that. On my turn I pull off shenanigans and end up with 3 Steel Shoguns and Scrap Dragon on the field. Scrap Dragon destroys carbuncle to destroy fortress and the judge who was overlooking broke into ever so slight hysterics xD
I side in Malevolent Catastrophy but it didn't matter. He draws only 1 monster whole game and I'm able to just normal summon guys and attack.

Round 3: KMP
I OTK
He OTKs
I OTK

Pretty much... We then compare and discuss deck choices. Chill guy.

Round 4: Chaos (This guy also topped)
Damage step limiter removal wins games
Game 2 apparently book of mooning a cyber dragon means people can still fuse it with your machine monsters into a 4000 attack guy :(
Game 3 I draw horribly and he wins through ridiculous spirit reaper pluses.

Round 5: Nordics
We both draw horrendously and I have to let loads of small attacks through. I get a glow up in grave and out of desperation I mill for it and hit a machina fortress while I have a force in hand, a level 4 and a level 3 tuner on the field. I manage to refil my hand and draw into trunade and limiter for game.
I FTK with trunade after she sets 5 and a monster.

Round 6: Chaos (This guy also topped)
I draw an all monster hand and need to draw some spells so I go all out turn 1 and draw into book of moon and de synchro and set both. He sets a card trooper and torrential which I run into when I summon gearframe next turn to search out force. Fortress is summoned and attacks into gorz :( I don't win this one...
I win the next 2 through FTK both times. Game 3 he had a set poison of the old man when I switch his spirit reaper to attack from set using either Shogun of Strategist. I think he was trying to stall to time ¬_¬

Round 7: Frog Monarch with 2 Archlord Krystias
Apparently battle fader + dark dust spirit is kinda good against my deck :( I manage to win game 1 by drawing more cards than him and forcing trades he didn't want using fortress.
Game 2 I solemn his dark dust spirit and he follows up with enemy controller on my 2100 guy and monster reborn for game :'(
Game 3 came down to time. On my second last turn I equip gearframe to fortress to end. He summons archlord with battle fader and treeborn and attacks over my guy for some minimal damage. On my turn I attack and drop my limiter removal for game =D

Top 8 is announced and I'm playing the second chaos guy again.
I don't remember how this game went but it went to game 3 where he drops dark armed and I scoop when he reveals his hand and shows he has game :(

1 Win away from winning an ipod :(

Yeah, I didn't realize it, but because Carbuncle doesn't resolve in the Graveyard it COULD be placed on your field. Bet that screwed up his entire deck strategy.

Anyways, nice work, and sorry to hear you didn't do as well as you had hoped.

EDIT: Finally got 5000 posts thanks to this. Now I don't have to think about it so much.
